Plaza Regency Hotel in Sliema in central position
Advantages: Easy access to public transport and sea front promenade
Disadvantages: cramped and slow lifts
...The Plaza Regency hotel, Sliema is situated at 251 Tower Road, or as the local street signs put it Triq it-Torri. It is seperated from its sister hotel The Plaza, by a road Triq San Frangisk. The two hotel are connected together by a bridge six floors above the street. This sounds weird but works quite well. The two hotels share a dining room which is on the sixth floor of the Plaza, and share a swimming pool which is on the roof (seventh floor) of the Plaza Regency.
Both hotels have several steps to climb to get from street level to Reception and in my opinion would be awkward for someone of limited mobility. Once inside, the reception area is spacious and has arm chairs and a TV. The staff here speak good English and are helpful. Both hotels have lifts which are in my opinion both slow and cramped. However the bedroom that my wife...

A big disappointment!
Advantages: Excellent location.
Disadvantages: Just about everything else.
...I stayed at the Europa Hotel for five nights in August of 2007 with two others. Here is a summary of our experience:
1. The location of the hotel cannot be faulted - a bus stop, children's playground, supermarket and a host of eateries and bars are all near by. Besides, Sliema is one of the best places to stay on the island, if not THE best.
2. The hotel in general, and the rooms in particular, were not as comfortable or modern as the photographs on the hotel's official website indicate. Technically, everything was as described, but the pictures suggest that the Europa is something much more than it really is. It was a real shock to discover just how far the reality deviated from the hype.
3. I specifically booked a five person room, through a popular hotel booking website, because it was only marginally more expensive than...

Sliema Hotel Fortina
Advantages: Friendly locals, variety of bars/clubs, sight seeing, loads to do!
Disadvantages: Hotel bedroom
...I visited Malta in June 1998 and was somewhat apprehensive prior to my arrival as I had heard many differing opinions as to its suitability for younger people. My fears were unfounded and I had a great time.
We stayed at the Hotel Fortina in the quieter part of Sliema. The hotel is rated 4* and is all inclusive (we paid around £800 for two weeks). Meals offered were varied, plentiful and of high quality with a choice of three restaurants - al la carte, buffet or mediterranean (check the menu of speciality restaurants prior to booking).
The hotel has three bars and the service was at some times slow, the drink measures were also quite small eg. lager was served in plastic glasses which were less than half a pint. 'Midnight snacks' were also promised in the bars although would often fail to appear!
The hotel facilities were...

Kennedy Nova Hotel, Malta.
Advantages: Right on the sea front
Disadvantages: None
...a personal touch and were very friendly.
We would certainly returm to this hotel if we ever come back to Malta.
The resort of Sliema is a harbour (no beach) & has a large shopping area with great shops (including M&S)
If you want more just jump on to a very reliable bus service every few minutes which cost only pennies to Valetta (Even bigger shops) Sliema has many bars and was a good starting point for excursions. We would recommend going between June and Aug if you want guaranteed sun. Overall a great holiday made even more special by the hotel....

Excellent Hotel.
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Its some distance from sandy beaches, if you like your beaches....
...Being Maltese and therefore a regular visitor to the Islands, out of all the hotels of experienced, my stay was most pleasant at the Fortina.
The Fortina is an excellent hotel, in an excellent location. Situated in Sliema, its close in proximity to both the capital Valletta (a few minutes by ferry, or a short bus ride), and the popular nightlife orientated St.Julians area. Sliema itself is bustling with countless bars, restaurants and shops. The location makes everything you could possibly want to do easily accessible.
The hotel itself is clean, the rooms are spacious and the views from sea-view rooms are fantastic (the extra expense is worth it!). The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food was of a good standard.
The hotel has pools both at the back and front, the front one being salty and the back not, catering...

Review of Fortina Spa Hotel (Malta)

Malta in general
Advantages: Good value
Disadvantages: Humidity
...Malta is a nice and safe place. You can find something up to your tastes - culture, night life, relaxing, history, sea and a lot more.
Travel - Only one airport. Best way to travel around is either by car or public transport, or taxis - though expensive. Please note that in Malta they drive on the left hand side, like UK, Ireland and Australia.
Dining - You can find a lot of good places, especially in the touristic areas like, Sliema, Bugibba and St Julians. A good meal can start from 10 euros upwards.
Hotels - Hotels are very comfortable. Most of the are airconditioned and offer a variety of services. You can also find bargains during the low season or you can ask for a self catering room.
Summer - It is famous for seaside and village feasts. All villages within the country celebrate feasts with a lot of traditional bands...

Lovely Malta
Advantages: Beautiful architecture, wonderful weather, lovely people
Disadvantages: You either love it or hate it - and usually for the same reasons!
...possibly imagine.
Valetta is gorgeous from the Sliema seafront and we love the walk from Les Lapins Hotel in Taxbiex round the waterfront to Sliema as the views of Valetta's mediaeval Italianate architecture are constantly changing. The harbour boat tour is brilliant value for money and well worth doing.
We álways gain weight in Malta, apart from the aforesaid cakes, there is also Malta's speciality pastizzi - puff pastry filled with ricotta - and one a day is the minimum dose! Malta's soft drink, Kinnie, which you can buy nowhere else in the world, is not be missed.
Shopping isn't too good - the exception being M'dina Glass where you can watch the glass being blown and I defy anyone not to come away having indulged in a colourful - but expensive - piece. Nearby is the Aviation Museum which is a real treat - we go every time to find...

Malta - Love it or Hate it?
Advantages: Fairly low prices to eat and drink, reasonably priced hotel accommodation, friendly people
Disadvantages: Lots of hotels are being turned into private schools/colleges. Has a tendency to look scruffy.
...We have visited Malta for the last 4yrs for 1 week each February, always staying in the Bugibba area.
Whilst I can't say I hate it - neither can I say I love it either...
As far as value for money goes, it's slightly cheaper to eat and drink than Cyprus, which is where I now live. Hotel accommodation is very reasonably priced for the mid range 3 to 4 star and older hotels. Newer, modern hotels are more expensive and rightly so, as they are far superior to the older ones. However, all we have stayed in have been clean and comfortable.
We prefer Qawra end of Bugibba as there is more going on and is more compact. However, Sliema is a favourite resort as you can look across the water to Valetta and take a short hop across by water taxi. We also really like St Julians area too.
We've visited Mdina (the Silent City), Mosta, Valetta and hope...
