3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point

Advantages: Bargain bundle with wireless card for my laptop
Disadvantages: Just an access point, no modem/hub/etc

...I use the 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Access Point in my home wireless network, and bought it as part of a bundle with a laptop wireless card - check my other reviews to see if I've got round to reviewing that too... It used the IEEE 802.11g standard (data transfer speeds of up to 54Mbps), plus is backwards compatible with IEEE 802.11b (upto 11Mbps) so works with older equipment (such as a slightly outdated laptop from a previous employer) with no problems. The included CD installed all the necessary drivers very quickly and also contains all the manuals in PDF format. Once the drivers were installed, the configuration wizard runs in a standard web browser. This involves configuring IP addresses, encryption settings, DHCP settings and other techy bits and bobs. This was pretty straightforward, although a basic knowledge...

WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point

Advantages: Good features, repeater and bridging modes
Disadvantages: Minor installation problem

...Here's the story. I have an existing wireless network. The access point is in the office in the loft. I have a laptop I wander around with (as you do) and there is a PC on the ground floor. On a good day with a strong wind, the downstairs PC gets a weak to medium connection. All too often though it is intermittent or fails completely. Web browsing is quirky and the whole experience is less than satisfactory. The bottom line is that despite being well within the theoretical range for wireless devices, there are just too many walls, floors and sundry other obstacles getting in the way. There are several things you can do do improve the signal but most are more suited to open spaces. One option that would help in this situation is to use a pair of access points in repeater mode. After a quick look around, Netgear's WG602 looked like...

generally a good access point

Advantages: easy to set up, good range.
Disadvantages: a bit sensitive

...I bought one of these access points for work because of the two aerial functionality. These aerials work in one of two ways, either diversity where they both send and recieve and can tell which aerial has the best signal to you and uses that, and simplex where one aerial sends and one receives and one sends and you have to have a good signal on both for the system to work. the diversity system makes it more flexible and we have a larger aerial on an extension on one of the RP TNC aerial connectors, this covers our manufacturing area, and one standard aerial which covers our office space. this works well and extends the range and thus the value for money of this unit. the advantage however using the aerials simplex is that in situations like an office with a good signal to both aerials one sending and one receiving cuts down...

My Sitecom 11M WL-013 - Wireless Access Point

Advantages: Very small - Good connection and signal - doesn't overheat - does the job
Disadvantages: Not sure how well it works with PCI wireless PC card

...My experience of this product is that it works quite well the reason why it doesn't go from good to excellent will be explained bellow. I have 2 PC's and 1 laptop I wanted the main PC to be hard-wired as that one is right next to the access hub and modem so no need to be wireless and anyway the main machine should always be hard-wired as no wireless can beat that. Then I have my son's laptop a Dell Inspiron 2200 which has already a wireless network card, and this machine runs perfect via the wireless access point anywhere in the house, and my house is a 3 storey house so plenty of range. However I did install a wireless PCI network card on the PC on 3rd level of the house and this connection was intermittent which meant going back to hard-wire there, now I cannot say for sure if this was a card problem or the access point problem or even...

WG302, connect me up before you gogo

Advantages: Good coverage, twin Antenna, easy to use interface
Disadvantages: None

...As a basic descrition, the WG302 is a bit of kit that is used to extend a network by means of wireless technology. e.g. to allow you to connect a wireless laptop to the network. I have recently purchased multiple sets of these wireless access points for our business network. The first thing that you have to say about a WG302 is the build quality. When you pick one up it feels like it is in fact a part from a land rover. Strong and durable. Netgear seem to have mastered the art of making business products that are actually suitable for the job. I have configured our WG302's primarily as main access points to our network for our visiting users. There isn't much you need to do to get up and running as long as you have a little advance knowledge of how to configure a wireless network. Netgear configuration interfaces are legendary...

Connect Four

Advantages: fun, strategic, cheap, suitable for all ages
Disadvantages: none

...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Connect Four ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At 7 years old I was playing connect four with my brother and yesterday, aged 18 I played connect four with my youngest brother and still thoroughly enjoyed it! Connect four has been going for years and is a game of strategy for two players. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Game ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The actual game consists of a vertical board made from blue plastic, which has six slots running down through the centre of it where the counters can be dropped. The board has 42 circular holes in it where you can see the counters that have been dropped in through the top. To keep the board standing up there are two blue plastic legs which can be slotted on to each side of the board. Some versions of the game have the legs already attached. Many versions of the game have a flap...

Connections

Advantages: A Good Read and Not too Heavy
Disadvantages: Not an addictive read

...Sheila O'Flanagan is a popular Irish writer who has written a lot of popular novels. Her novels are normally one long continuous story. 'Connections' is different as it is a collection of stories, all based around a hotel - 'White Sands' - in the Carribean. There are 12 chapters in the book and each chapter has a heading of a name and room number. Chapter one begins with Corinne, who's in room 404 and is a crime-writer. She is on a working holiday, trying to get inspiration for her next novel, but is having a case of writer's block. It doesn't help when she sees everyone on the beach reading crime books by a different writer. The next chapter centres around Bree in room 217, who is here on holiday with her partner, Declan. He is 20 years older than her and widowed and he has been to White Sands with his wife. Bree is...

DMR -EZ48VEBK; at the price sold refurbished - awesome!

Advantages: The VEIRA link gives the Panasonic DMR the best picture qualities for products of it's kind.
Disadvantages: The connections liable to disturbanced by movement of the DMR; the handbook too complicated!

...Can't say they're 1000% perfect but not far short; the DMR -EZ48VEBK Reg 2 for the Waltham transmitter is little less than the perfect companion to any decent LCD / SKY - or PLASMA set-up (if you have the hackers for one): After being disappointed by several online retailers I managed to get a good deal from Amazon for my Recorder, so to find an Eddy's link on there was sorry but little short of amazing. I have been buying electical goods from Eddy's for nearly 35 years, so you won't get me writing anything but a cracking review; for this reason I give the DMR 4 stars. My only problem is the setting up cos I'm disabled but a neighbour helped me and in less than an hour the whole system was up and working along with the SKY box. Sadly since helping me with this, he has suddenly passed on and will be sadly missed; but the lasting...

CONNECT 4 - SIMPLE BUT GENIUS!!

Advantages: QUICK TO SET UP AND QUICK TO PUT AWAY
Disadvantages: ONLY FOR TWO PLAYERS

...CONNECT 4 Sometimes the simplest of games give the most pleasure and after playing Connect 4 with my children today I thought that I would review it. THE GAME ITSELF The game is made up of red and yellow counters and a simple blue plastic grid. The game is for two players and each player chooses one of the colours. The object of the game is to then slot the counters in the grid (it houses 42 counters as a maximum) at the top (taking turns) and the first player to get four counters in a straight line wins. The line can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal, but the row must be uninterrupted. Of course, whilst you are trying to get your four in a row, you are at the same time trying to block your opponent from achieving the same thing. What I like most about the game is that very young children can master it (I would say age 4...

Be.ez LArobe - Stylish protection for your Mac

Advantages: Stylish, with good lightweight protection
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little pricy

...knew exactly what I was going to spend it on. Now, as you'd expect, I'm a stylish kind of guy, so I was looking for something stylish and after hunting about a bit, I plumped for the Be.ez 13.3 LArobe (pictured above). I assume the Be.ez is pronounced 'be easy'. It looks good and ticked the boxes for the level of protection offered. I got mine from Amazon (of course, because of the voucher) and it cost me £19.38 inc Post and Packing. I reckon this is a tad pricey, for instance there are some available in the £5 region if you look, but neither is it the most expensive in class. Delivery was speedy; ordered on the Wednesday night, delivered on Saturday, registered post. The technical bit: - It's made out of "Low Resilience Polyurethane (LRPu)", black on the outside, and coloured on the inside. Mine is green on the inside, or "Wasabi...
