Smile - mostly good for you !

...I've used Smile as my main account for six years and have very pleased with their service. Any difficulties, you can send an enquiry via their website, and you get a prompt and helpful reply. However, I recently had a problem (when completing my tax return) because the account transactions are only available on-line for ten months. For earlier transactions a charge of £10 is made for a paper copy - apparently they are stored on micro-film. Not very helpful when the tax return relates to a period which started maybe 18 months earlier. Information about this aspect of Internet accounts is surprisingly difficult to find but I've been making some enquiries at recommended banks. One gave the absurd figure of six months. But I've found two which offer 27 months on-line availability: Nationwide and First Direct. So I'm planning to leave...

V.SMILE you made Jordon SMILE

Makes you wear a smile

Advantages: Mix of ballads and silly songs, engaging performance

Other than the photos, the album notes contain the usual credits and thankyous, plus a 'note' from composer Charles Strouse, who gushes enthusiastically about the performances. Anyway, on to the songs themselves. Fifteen tracks, sixteen songs, forty-five minutes of music and not a completely weak link in there. The album opens with 'Da-Da, Da-Da, Da Da', a very silly little ditty which expresses how much a short sequence of six chords can mean to a dancer, who prefers them to anything by Ellington, Gershwin or Beethoven. However, smile promise to care of all the transfers of debits and standing orders themselves. This went surprisingly well. Nearly all the debits were transferred correctly. I had problems with two debits: Egg card wouldn't accept smile's authority (Internet bank jealousy methinks) and my mortgage company debited my smile account twice. To their credit, smile's operators gave me sensible advice on how to contact Egg to sort out the first, and they immediately recredited my account with the second erroneous mortgage payment, and contacted my lender to make sure it didn't happen again.
