first impressions of the new SN41G2 V2.0.

Advantages: Beautiful, small, rock solid, fast, quality construction, full of features, right there with the big boys on performance.
Disadvantages: none really. once hooked with a Shuttle then there is no going back.

...These are my first impressions of the new SN41G2 V2.0. I had the Shuttle SN41G2 V1.0 Black Special Edition since last june. I loved is so much but it had some annoyances. Last week I managed to short circuit the motherboard which rendered the AGP and PCI slots useless, but strangely enough everything still works including the built-in graphics and I have been using it till this morning. I ordered the new SN41G2 V2.0 and got it this morning. I have to say that the first impression was that the silver colour looks much better that the old SN41G2. It looks more whiter if that makes sense. Under the hood there are many nice changes: - Officially supports DDR400 [400MHz FSB]. - Comes with the SilentX 250W PC40 PSU instead of the old Enhance 200W PSU. - The cables are sooooo neatly routed through the case. in the the old SN41G2...

Giving the Belgians a second chance

Advantages: Full service airline, frequent flights, reasonable prices.
Disadvantages: The only direct flights are to Brussels!

Gateway to Brussels for those south of the Thames

One of the most stylish computers around

Advantages: small, stylish, solid build, quality components, looks good next to an LCD/PLASMA TV
Disadvantages: possible difficulty when initially putting together, no onboard DVI

THE SN41G2 Firstly, for those of you that are new to this, the SN41G2 Shuttle is a SFF (small form factor) barebones unit, essentially meaning that this is a computer that comes without a CPU processor, hard disk drive, memory, CDROM drive or peripherals such as keyboard or monitor. You have to buy your own components to go with it. PC parts are fairly standard these days so there shouldn't be any problems with finding the right parts. DESIGN Since having purchased the Shuttle SN41G2 barebones a year ago, my expectations of what a computer should look like and build quality have completely changed. Small but powerful!!

Advantages: good looking, tiny, full featured
Disadvantages: Need limited knowledge of computers

.... The XPC has loads of USB ports on both the front and back and the SN45G has an attractive blue LED on the front. The only real disavantage I can possibly think of is that you can only fit one optical drive in the XPC's. However I chose a DVD-RW and this doesn't bother me whatsoever! As the Shuttle is a barebones PC you are supplied with all the manuals that describe how you fit you components. (If you intend to build your XPC yourself remember to choose the right XPC for your processor as AMD and Pentium versions are available.) Instead of building my own XPC I found it much easier to let a company called Retcorp Direct do it for me. These folks are great and you can buy online at their website. They offer a great range of XPC's with a PC configurator letting you choose what parts you want with the knowledge that it all fits properly...

All singing all dancing system in a tiny box!

Advantages: This little beauty has everything you need in a pc, all jam packed into one simple little case !
Disadvantages: The only thing that I can really really knock is the fact that CD copying has to be done via the image route, no on the fly !

Little Gem!

Advantages: Small, good looking, pretty much everything on-board
Disadvantages: Limited expansion options

...I have built over twenty of these recently and the more I deal with Shuttle machines the more impressed I am. The SN41G2 is the updated SN41G, supporting the fastest Athlon processors available and 400MHz DDR (though only if you are using an AGP graphics card can you utilise the DDR full speed). Dual monitor support is built in, and there are a wealth of features including USB2, firewire, onboard 5.1 sound. With the SilentX PSU the Shuttle is very quiet (though it should be clear that it definitely is not silent!). The fan speed is linked to CPU temperature, and under normal conditions is very low noise. It is noticeably louder on start-up (for only a few seconds), and when running hot. If it runs too hot, there is an overheat cut-out, which instantly turns the computer off and protects your CPU from being damaged. The only...

A great shuttle, future proof, reliable and FAST!
