Reviews of snooker
The best snooker game out there!
Review of World Snooker Challenge 2007 (PSP) by
seanbv1
Advantages: Excellent game, graphics, playtime etc.
Disadvantages: Moderate load times
...When I got World Championship Snooker 2005 2 years ago I was really happy with the game play and thought it was fantastic. It was really good on the pc and suited it really well. When I learn that World Championship Snooker 2007 wasn’t going to be brought out on the pc, I was upset at first and thought to myself, what console shall I get it on? I decided I would give the psp version a shot. I did not think it would work that well to be honest and was dreading the controls for it.
I got the game and started to play it instantly. Dreading the controls and never being one to read the manual properly, I went ahead and played an exhibitions match. I was really impressed.
The graphics on the game are actually really nice and makes the game look really great to play. The sound as well to go with it is great too. When you strike the cue...

Novel new Snooker simulator for PC
Review of Colin Burton's Snooker Tournament 2001 (PC) by
darrellfromearth
Advantages: Fun to play, with some amusing features.
Disadvantages: Almost incomprehensible voice-over provided by the game's sponsor.
...Soccer games are much like the skeletons in Jason and The Argonauts. Just when you’ve finished with one, two more spring up to take its place. Snooker games are far and few between however. Not surprising really, considering that half the world is unaware of the sport. Add to this the fact that past snooker and pool games (such as Archer McLean’s classic series in the early 1990’s which included “Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker”) are pretty hard to beat, with practically every feature you could imagine. But now it looks as though Colin Burton, the Snooker-hero of the moment, could finally bring the game to the masses with this new title for PC.
For those that don’t understand the game of Snooker, it is basically Pool with more balls and mathematics. Don’t be put off by the seeming...

Snooker is dull. Can Codemasters change all that
Review of World Championship Snooker (PSX) by
Spoonmonkey
Advantages: Superb graphics, official licence, great ball physics, create-a-player, different arenas, moving players.
Disadvantages: Lacks the darts/slot machine of Jimmy White' Cueball 2, dull commentary, lacks in one player mode, corny background music.
...Snooker is without a doubt one of the most boring sports on television. This situation is not helped by the commentators who could make England beating Germany for the World Cup in a thrilling penalty shoot-out frequently interrupted by shootings, streakers and parachutists as dull as Watercolour Challenge. It is also very tedious to actually play. It's okay as long as you are either playing against a complete amateur, barely able to hold the cue but when you play against a pro capable of 147 breaks you know you'd better get a comfortable chair ready. World Championship Snooker does not attempt to alleviate the boredom of snooker but somehow makes it more interesting. No, it doesn’t have virtual lap dancers, and no, it doesn't have hitmen in the audience firing shots at the players.
The controls are incredibly simple to learn...

Snooker is a hard genre to make good
Review of World Championship Snooker (PSX) by
werdnajas
Advantages: Very playable and the longetivity is good
Disadvantages: Quite boring and commentary is poor
...World Championship Snooker - can it rival the top games?
World Championship Snooker is obviously a snooker game. There are three languages available for you to choose - English, French, and German. With each - even the referee and commentator speak in that language.
World Championship Snooker is arguably the best snooker game on the market. It uses a unique aiming aid. This aiming aid shows you the expected path of the cueball and the first ball that it hits. It is very useful to those not brilliant at seeing angles and allows you to build up big breaks in order to compete with the top players - including Ken Doherty and Mark Williams.
The visuals on the game are excellent. Although, with the PS2 out, the accuracy of the faces on the game are not brilliant - however the balls on the table and the arena you play in are excellent...

World Championship Snooker
Review of World Championship Snooker (PSX) by
jambo5000
Advantages: The best snooker/pool game around
Disadvantages: can get boreing in 1 player
...A snooker simulation is nothing new. But one that plays and looks as lifelike as this certainly is. Glance at typical scene in World Championship Snooker and a double take is needed to check that it's not coverage of the real thing. There really hasn't been anything like it before, the amazingly detailed 3D graphics bringing every bit of the action to life, from the movement of the balls, to the rendering of the table and cue, right through to the darkly lit environment and even the snooker players. It's the latter that really provide the icing on the cake, their silky 3D forms walking around the table, taking the shots, and looking every bit like real players. In fact the game features twenty of the world's top players, including Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan, while the big name connections continue with the commentary, courtesy...

Snooker Shocker
Review of World Championship Snooker 2003 (PS2) by
kungfuclown
Advantages: Best snooker game on the market today
Disadvantages: slow game play and lack of game modes
...be a good shot! What he really means is, it is impossible, as it would be three times round, with left and right hand-side around the table and stopping on a six pence.
The game play seems to flow and without getting into the dynamics of ball movements the top, side and screw back seem to work perfect. Although perfecting the break off seems to be an impossibility and sometime this cushions seem to bounce far to much. (but maybe I’m not to good).
As stated above the multiplayer part is awesome, lets face it you get to be one of 70 top superstars or a player you created yourself. You get to step up to a snooker table without thinking dam those pockets look so far away. And, and , and how many people can say the have knocked in a 127 break?
HERES THE BIG DOWNSIDE
When you’re playing against the computer the just don’t miss! Sure...

Snooker is fun and Jimmy is Snooker
Review of Jimmy White by
real_rob_writer
Advantages: Great game
Disadvantages: None
...Snooker is a great great game , butwhere to start, snooker is such a broad topic, so I have decided to give you the quick guide to the whole of snooker!
The Rules
---------
It is surprising how many people don't know the rules to snooker, it is a much more tactical game than pool, and although it is more complicated it really is quite simple!
To demonstrate the rules I thought the easiest way would be to draw a picture, so here goes....
The table is approx. 6ft by 12ft, or in my language 1.83m by 3.66m. It is traditionally covered with green felt, and stands a little over waist height. Players use cues to strike balls, which are traditionally made out of wood with a tip that is covered in chalk to stop the balls slipping.
A cushion, covered in rubber so balls bounce off them, encloses each edge of the table...

Great Balls of Fire!
Review of Snooker in General by
oxonian
Advantages: Sport full of technical and tactical skill.
Disadvantages: Many do not perceive this as a sport.
...When Snooker is televised on the BBC, nothing but Athletics will prompt me to turn over. I find Snooker a very engaging sport to watch, but an even more enjoyable one to play.
Back in my University days, I had a lot of free time in between lectures and the pub, and this time was occasionally spent in Riley's Snooker Club, off the Cowley Road in Oxford, with a fellow Snooker obsessive. A lot of my school life involved playing physically exasperating sports such as Rugby and Football, but Snooker was a welcome relief from that. It requires methodical, technical and tactical skill and intricate attention to angles and detail.
About Snooker
Essentially, Snooker is a sport played by two opposing players on a 12ft x 6ft baize-covered table that has pockets in each of the four corners and a pocket in the middle of each...

A snooker game which is more than just snooker
Review of Jimmy White 2: Cueball (PC) by
werdnajas
Advantages: Is more than just a snooker game
Disadvantages: Can stall and has bugs
...Jimmy White's 2 Cueball
I bought this game a long time ago. I used to have the MegaDrive and I used to play Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker on it. When I played JW2C for the first time, the graphics amazed me.
The game of snooker is not a game in which manufacturers can produce much scope. But this game has. You are initially presented with a first person view of what is designed to be Jimmy's house. To the left is the pool room, and the snooker room to the right. Along the walls are various books. Each of these books contains records of breaks, leads, wins, etc. On the far side, are two blackboards, (one for pool, one for snooker) with the highest "ranks" for pool, and the highest breaks for snooker.
When you go into either room, you will see a magnificent design from the makers. In the snooker room, you get a calm room...
