Super Snooper
Advantages: Gives You A Chance
Disadvantages: False Alerts (but you soon work it out)
...THESE UNITS ARE NOT A LICENCE TO SPEED AND I DO NOT ENDORSE SPEEDING. THIS IS MEARLY A REVIEW OF THE PRODUCT. IT IS PROVEN THAT PEOPLE WHO USE THESE UNITS HAVE 24% LESS ACCIDENTS. BY KNOWING WHERE CAMERAS ARE THE OVERALL AVERAGE SPEED MUST DECREASE.
QUICK OVERVIEW
What is a snooper?
For those of you that don't know what these great little gadgets are, they are speed camera detectors. Basically they give you a chance of saving some points, your licence and a bit of money (after initial cost). They are aimed at making drivers slow down because they know there is a camera. It's also proven that snooper users have less accidents (it says so on the box at least). Oh and they are 100% legal in the UK.

Snooper SD815is
Advantages: 5 Band detection, range of use
Disadvantages: A bit too sensitive at times - keeps bleeping
...Having received 2 fixed penalties for speeding in 1 month, at speeds not significantly over the limit, nor at anything like some drivers you see flying past you (but that's a different story!), I decided to buy a radar detector. The models available differ vastly in price, ranging from about £100 upto £600, with the major differences being the detection range and frequencies covered. The cheaper models only cover 4 bands, missing out the new mini-gatso cameras, so I opted for the Snooper SD815is, giving 5 band detection and good range, upto 2 miles for radar and laser guns, 600 yards for the mini gatsos and 100 yards for gatso cameras.
The unit sits on either a frame using suckers to fix to the windscreen or with a bit of velcro to attach to your dash and is powered via the fag lighter, though you can hardwire the power lead into...

Snooper 715iS
Advantages: Warns you when Gatso Cameras are nearby
Disadvantages: Can be quite loud, Petrol Station camera's set it off.
...I have used this speed camera detector now for about 9 months and have found it very useful. I purchased it because I had been doing a lot of travelling in areas I didn't know and therefore didn't want to be caught out by a Speed Camera.
It is designed to detect Gatso Cameras. These are the most common sort of camera you can get caught by and are the bright yellow ones on the side of the road along with horizontal lines in the road. Because the cameras are operated by infrared, the Snooper picks up this signal and sounds the alarm. What is interesting is that sometimes there isn't a camera inside the box but the light will still flash. Because it is the camera that has the infrared attached to it, if you approach a camera box without a camera being in there, the alarm won't go off. Thereby you can see which have cameras in them...

Snooper S6R & S6RLD
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: False Sense of Secuity - Picks up everthing EXCEPT Speed Detectors
...RUBBISH.
These are a very expensive con. Not only that, having one lead you into a false sense of security.
I have the S6R & S6RLD laser. The unit itself works fine, but you need to keep up with the updates - I could not download them for some time, which was very annoying.
The laser picks up traffic lights, mobile phone masts and overhead power lines. BUT NOT Police hand held lasers. I have been stopped twice and the laser did not detect them. So Snooper telling me that they couldn't have been pointing it at me is just wrong!!
I sent the whole lot back to them just before Christmas and it has now been returned to me. They say there is nothing wrong with the laser and they have changed the phone number in the unit.
When I asked if I would get a refund for the Subs as I had not been able to download anything I was told no...

The ultimate safety device to help keep your licence clean
Advantages: Small, sleek, stylish, lets you know what the speed limit is, informs of hidden dangers
Disadvantages: Can't link it to a separate satnav system
...****What is it****
The Snooper Sapphire is a speed camera detector system that works using a GPS signal. However, unlike conventional and similar products the Sapphire also warns of other road hazards such as exceptionally tight corners (you know the ?U-bend? type), schools, hidden dips, dangerous junctions and the like.
****In the box****
The box weighs in at 1.1kg, most of which is excess packaging although there are some accessories in addition to the unit itself. The box includes:
i)The Snooper Sapphire
ii) A wall charger
iii) An in car charger
iv) Headphones
v) A dash mount
vi) A windscreen mount
vii) Instructions
Other than a protective case and a dual car-charging plug (of which you may not need), the box contains everything you need which is a good thing as I have not found any additional accessories...

Low Bridge, no problem, this is the best truck sat nav
Advantages: Clear instructions, many extra features, avoids all trucking hazards.
Disadvantages: Almost too large, expensive to purchase
...Problem - My husband is a trucker and travels all over the country doing different routes virtually every day, He uses a Tom Tom GO as a basic Sat-nav which is great, but does not take into consideration any of the extra hazards that LGV drivers encounters daily. He therefore was looking for the most reliable sat nav designed for truckers, and settled on this one.
At around £450 it certainly isn't an easy decision to make to purchase one, and seeing as they are only distributed by the makers, you won't find it much cheaper than that either. The S7000 is the 'big brother' of the S2000, it has identical Sat-nav software, but on a much larger screen and the unit also has another couple of brilliant extras, which certainly make life on the road a bit nicer.
The Snooper Sirius S7000 Truckmate is the same as the normal Snooper Sirius S...

Please allow me to snoop
Advantages: simple installation, easy to use, detects all speed cameras up to 2 miles away
Disadvantages: bleeps an clicks are annoying
...Last year in the United Kingdom 2.1 million people were caught travelling at excess speeds on the roads incurring 3 points on their driving licence and a £60 fine. I personally accounted for 2 of those offences counted above and was livid that each time I had been captured by static cameras located at the side of the road when driving in an area where I was unfamiliar with the layout of the area, the location of the cameras or the speed limit of the road. In the second instance I was on a country road that was classed as a 40 mile per hour area yet all of the similar roads approaching it were the national speed limit. Determined not to get caught again I bought a second hand Snooper S5-R from my brother in law, a device he had used without issue for 3 years. When originally purchased it cost £199.99, yet I managed with a sweet smile...

BIG BROTHER REALLY IS WATCHING YOU!
Advantages: Gives voice alerts rather than bleeping, shuts up if you are driving below the speed limit, tells you the reported speed of the road, records and monitors your speed limit, you can record your own high risk zones
Disadvantages: Database is not up to date, laser detect is questionable
...NOTE: This is not a radar detector unless you purchase the S4r-neo or the optional Snooper S100 RLD unit for around an extra £100.
I do a fair amount of driving in my work and my personal life, and have, for some time been getting more and more paranoid over the increasing number of fixed and mobile speed cameras around. Between my house and my daughter?s boyfriends, there are no less than 5 cameras, a slight slip and that?s 15 points on your licence and an instant ban.
Now I am not manic driver by any stretch of the imagination. However, a near miss with a police van just outside my office about 6 weeks ago, while moving with the flow of the traffic, I got hit doing about 34 in a 30 zone getting me rather worried.
I spent a few restless nights waiting for that ticket to arrive in the post, thankfully it didn?t. It did...

It's Ok To Snoop...
Advantages: A great gadget that can alert you to accident blackspots, Can help you not to get points on your licence, Fascinating to see how many cameras aren't active
Disadvantages: Expensive, Prone to false alarms (though these still make you keep an eye on your speed!)
...Snooper make products that detect radars... now, before you all start thinking they are illegal toys for boy racers, think again. Snooper products are perfectly legal in the UK and it's apparantly statistically proven that drivers who use these sorts of products are less likely to be involved in an accident - a UK survey was conducted in March 2001 by MORI that concluded radar detector users had 24% fewer accidents than none radar detector users.
The idea of the Snooper is to alert you to radars and police speed traps (normally located at accident blackspots according to the police) whilst you're driving. There are many different models of Snooper that perform slightly different functions and can incorporate different gadgets such as GPS (global positioning system). One of the more middle of the range models is the snooper S5-R...

Snoopa Duper
Advantages: Good, cheap GPS snooper,
Disadvantages: bit temprimental
...I brought an S3 Snooper of of ebay for bout £119.99, all the way back in march, I brought as like most motorists i didnt want to risk my licence because of all the new speed cameras popping up everywhere.
It works fine after a warmup period of about thirty seconds, plugs straight into the cigerette lighter easy peezy.
Needs to be updated reguarly on the internet usually once a month as on the snooper website they reguarly update the location of new speed cameras, picks up all the new speed cameras, like the Specs, that pick you up as you enter a zone and then at the end of the zone and calculate the average speed, it beeps when you are in the zone and at the start aswell, it shows a visual warning and an audible warning that can be adjusted to turn the sound down. The audible warning is in the form of beeping which gets louder...
