TomTom Wireless GPS Receiver 20 channel GPS receiver module
Advantages: good
Disadvantages: none
...I dont have a 20 channel receiver however I do have a 12 channel receiver which came in the box with my Tom Tom Navigator 5 for PDA, whichi I use in my Treo 680 Smart Phone. The whole thing works perfectly and I couldn't ask for more as Sat Nav goes.
The GPS receiver looks identical to the 20 channel one shown here and if this one works as well as mine does then you can't go wrong.
It has a matt cover which makes it stay put where ever you place it on the dashboard and in use I've found that it picks up a signal very quickly and once linked to the PDA by bluetooth it keeps the signal so long as it can see just a tiny bit of sky. Once linked I take the unit off the dash and place it on the floor of the car in between the seats and it keeps the signal through motorway tunnels and even during a traffice halt under a bridge! It does link...

Low Bridge, no problem, this is the best truck sat nav
Advantages: Clear instructions, many extra features, avoids all trucking hazards.
Disadvantages: Almost too large, expensive to purchase
...Problem - My husband is a trucker and travels all over the country doing different routes virtually every day, He uses a Tom Tom GO as a basic Sat-nav which is great, but does not take into consideration any of the extra hazards that LGV drivers encounters daily. He therefore was looking for the most reliable sat nav designed for truckers, and settled on this one.
At around £450 it certainly isn't an easy decision to make to purchase one, and seeing as they are only distributed by the makers, you won't find it much cheaper than that either. The S7000 is the 'big brother' of the S2000, it has identical Sat-nav software, but on a much larger screen and the unit also has another couple of brilliant extras, which certainly make life on the road a bit nicer.
The Snooper Sirius S7000 Truckmate is the same as the normal Snooper Sirius S...

The best GPS receiver I have seen yet!
Advantages: Tiny, appealling, accurate, powerful and desirable.
Disadvantages: Rubber cover for DC power supply breaks off easily.
...) alternatives.
Suddenly, the GlobalSat BT338 popped up in front of me. It looked more like a fold-up mobile phone. I seriously thought that it was all looks, and no function. I was fortunately proven wrong.
One quick eBay bid, and a couple of days later, I was holding the GlobalSat BT338. The first thing that struck me was how small, but solid the device felt. Of the external appearance, only one thing bothered me, and that was the rubber cover for the DC power supply (to the lower left of the image shown). The rubber was so soft, that it felt rather anaemic.
The device is supplied with a large capacity 1700mAH Li-Ion battery. When you see how small this GPS receiver is, you'll be even more amazed that about half of that size holds the battery. The battery fits snugly and securely inside the device, by means of a slide off back cover...

Great GPS receiver
Advantages: light, portable, good reception, accutate
Disadvantages: none
...A slim GPS Receiver that connect to your device using 'Bluetooth' a handy product that will enable your smartphone or windows mobile phone to connect to the GPS satalite network for trip guidence and other similar sat-nav tasks.
I have used this with my O2 XDA mini phone and found it to be very reliable. I loaded the Destinator sat-nav software onto my phone, launched the application and swithched on the Holux receiver and once i had set up the pairing in my phone it was good to go!
Reception was excellent and accuracy very good. In fact because it is so portable i was able to compare it with my friends Pergout car's factory fitted sat-nav and it beat it for accuracy hands down.
I also use it with some Geocaching software for paperless caching - look up Geocaching on google if you want to know what it is?
Some phones now have...

Sat nav for a bicycle?
Advantages: Effective, efficient and useful - reasonably priced.
Disadvantages: No facility for an easy battery change of replacement.
...Intro.
Did you hear about the Syrian lorry driver heading towards Gibralter - who managed to log his destination on his SatNav to Gibralter Point near Skegness??
The first few such stories hitting the media in the early days of this technology were quite funny. Now they dither between the unbelievable and the stupid ! How can a Merc driver pilot her sports coupe along a track marked for 4x4's, drive it into a ford without even having a look first at its depth, and end up writing the car off in the river ? ... and then blame the SatNav??
SatNavs were not created to drive the car or take over from all driving skills and common sense - they are a help in finding your position and direction of travel.
So you will all have a laugh when I tell you I BOUGHT MINE FOR MY BICYCLE.!

Garmin Nuvi 200w Sat Nav System
Advantages: Easy to use, does what it's suppsed to do!
Disadvantages: Satellite pairing takes ages, no mains charger!
...When I was recently in the market for a Sat Nav system, there were so many available, that I barely knew where to start. There were a few specifications that I had in mind when looking for a suitable GPS system. I didn't want to spend too much money to begin with. For months previously, I had been observing reviews and prices of sat nav systems online, and what was clear to was the fact that new systems were constantly being released, which meant that prices were being reduced all the time. So I didn't see a point in splashing out on an expensive system, knowing that the price would probably fall before long. I also wanted a widescreen sat nav, simply because they look better and more modern, but also because pretty much all new sat nav systems are manufactured in widescreen, and that the 4:3 screen aspect ratio will become a thing...

Super Snooper
Advantages: Gives You A Chance
Disadvantages: False Alerts (but you soon work it out)
...THESE UNITS ARE NOT A LICENCE TO SPEED AND I DO NOT ENDORSE SPEEDING. THIS IS MEARLY A REVIEW OF THE PRODUCT. IT IS PROVEN THAT PEOPLE WHO USE THESE UNITS HAVE 24% LESS ACCIDENTS. BY KNOWING WHERE CAMERAS ARE THE OVERALL AVERAGE SPEED MUST DECREASE.
QUICK OVERVIEW
What is a snooper?
For those of you that don't know what these great little gadgets are, they are speed camera detectors. Basically they give you a chance of saving some points, your licence and a bit of money (after initial cost). They are aimed at making drivers slow down because they know there is a camera. It's also proven that snooper users have less accidents (it says so on the box at least). Oh and they are 100% legal in the UK.
IN DETAIL
Range
GATSO Cameras can be detected upto 75 yards
MINI GATSO Cameras upto 400 yards
LASER and RADAR Guns upto 1 mile...

No slip shod slap dash sloppy sat nav . . .
Advantages: So simple to use.
Disadvantages: Easy target for thieves.
......
Garmin was one of the GPS devices I looked at when deciding which sat nav to go for. I actually went for the TomTom. As I compared several models I feel I am qualified to write a review on this Sat Nav.
Garmin is well known for Satnav, but they also make Mobile phones, Laptops, PDAs, 2 way radios, and even dog tracking systems. They do echo sounders for boats, as well as chartplotters, fishfinders, and even radar sets.
They are a "new" company (1989) and have a stong foothold in the navigation market.
Garmin call this a personal travel assistant, this is an entry level job, but I tend to think that is just a marketing trick to make you want the next model. The device comes already pre-loaded with maps covering the whole of Europe. It has the usual touch screen and is of course very slim. The database is already loaded...

Snooper SD815is
Advantages: 5 Band detection, range of use
Disadvantages: A bit too sensitive at times - keeps bleeping
...Having received 2 fixed penalties for speeding in 1 month, at speeds not significantly over the limit, nor at anything like some drivers you see flying past you (but that's a different story!), I decided to buy a radar detector. The models available differ vastly in price, ranging from about £100 upto £600, with the major differences being the detection range and frequencies covered. The cheaper models only cover 4 bands, missing out the new mini-gatso cameras, so I opted for the Snooper SD815is, giving 5 band detection and good range, upto 2 miles for radar and laser guns, 600 yards for the mini gatsos and 100 yards for gatso cameras.
The unit sits on either a frame using suckers to fix to the windscreen or with a bit of velcro to attach to your dash and is powered via the fag lighter, though you can hardwire the power lead into...

GPS extraordinaire
Advantages: Very fast connection speeds
Disadvantages: None
...After purchasing a Pocket PC (HP hx4700) mainly for use as a calender assistant and portable web browsing device, I soon discovered that it could also be used as a portable Sat Nav device as well, allowing applications such as Tomtom to be uploaded onto it, and for those who are interested in light aircraft flying, like me, memory map is fantastic aviation GPS program which can be used on using actual CAA aviation maps with GPS data overlay for flight planning and tracking purposes. The one extra hardware add-on which is needed to allow tomtom and memory map to function is a GPS receiver device. I had previously purchased a Compact Flash card extension GPS receiver which plugged into the Pocket PC's existing ports directly, unfortunately, it was very poor at satellite tracking and position locking, taking several minutes to lock-on to...
