Advantages: Awesome food, service and people! Disadvantages: Rooms were a little damp and cold
...Elen's Castle Hotel, is situated in North Wales....
Dolwyddelan, Snowdonia National Park LL25 0EJ, Wales
I stayed at Elen's Castle for 3 nights, and for a 3 star hotel, it was pretty good and worth spending the money.
To start with, the rooms were satisfactory. To be honest, they were slightly damp and cold, but for one suit (a family room) there was a double bed, a single bed and a bunk bed...so it was suitable for up to 6 people.
The double room contained the double bed itself, a TV and a DVD player, two chairs, a kettle and some confectionary. There wasn't an interesting view from the window, but was surely refreshing after a tiring day.
The single room also contained a TV, but no DVD player, a sink, a wardrobe and some more confectionary for your tea or coffee.
There was another spacious room which contained a bunk...
Advantages: Lots of shops, good walks, nice eateries Disadvantages: Can get very busy
...Not so long ago I wrote a review about the Snowdonia National Park in which I mentioned a lovely town called Betws-y-Coed and I thought, since it is such a lovely place, it deserved a review all to itself!
Living as we do in Llandudno on the coast of North Wales we often go for a drive through Snowdonia National Park and we regularly stop at Betws-y-Coed for a cup of tea and a mooch round the shops.
Getting there
It is a really easy place to find as the A5 runs straight through the centre of the town. Looking at a map of the area it is pretty much due south from Llandudno and due east from Caernarvon. There is a small railway station in the centre of town so it is accessible by rail. There is also an excellent local bus service.
Web site
There is a web site at www.betws-y-coed.co.uk which gives lots of information about...
.... He buried the dog at the place that is now called Beddgelert. How much of this is true I don't know but there is a gravestone with the story of Gelert on it.
So what is it like?
It is a beautiful village set in a valley with the mountains of Snowdonia all around. It isn't a big place by any means but has a couple of pubs, a large hotel, a few restaurants and cafes, a home made ice cream shop, a few other shops, a post office, an information centre, a church and some beautiful scenery.
There are plenty of places to stay in and around Beddgelert - camp sites, bunkhouses, bed and breakfast accommodation, guest houses and hotels.
Now for some more specific information
To get into the village you will go over a bridge which spans the river. Before you cross the bridge there is a very nice tea room and restaurant called Beddgelert...
Advantages: Scenery, plenty to see and do Disadvantages: The weather might put some off
...I was born in the West Midlands and lived there until 2002 when we all moved to Llandudno in North Wales. My husband, Dave, and I bought a large Victorian house and mom and dad came to live with us so that I could be their full time carer.
We have now sadly lost both of them and Dave and I have moved to a small cottage on the Great Orme here in Llandudno as our old house was far too big for just two of us.
The view from the front of our cottage is of the sea and the Snowdon Mountains beyond and it got me thinking that it was about time I wrote a review about this beautiful part of the world.
The Snowdonia National Park stretches from Llandudno in the north to Machynlleth in the south and from the west coast of Wales inland as far as Bala.
I don't intend to go into minute detail in this review but rather to give you a flavour...
Advantages: Something for everyone, breathe-taking scenery, good food. Disadvantages: Rain.
...constantly sending tiny pebbles bouncing down the sides to the valley below. Fill your lungs with the clear air, let the sun and wind brighten your cheeks with a rosy glow, lift you eyes to heaven for surely this is as near to heaven as you will ever feel.
This is North Wales and in particular the Snowdonia National park, which totals 823 square miles of the wildest land you will see anyway in the world. A mere 26,000 people live and work in this area of unspoilt beauty some making a bare living from the land others practising crafts handed down through generations. Millions of people visit North Wales every year but the National park stays unchanged by time.
Looking at the geology its hard to imagine the sheer age of this area, from pre-Cambrian to Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian ages spanning over 400 million years, it makes a person...
Advantages: Breathtaking scenery, fairytale castle, lovely town Disadvantages: None
...weekend in the winter months for a ‘non-shopping’ day out to blow away the cobwebs and get some fresh air into our lungs. One of my favourites in recent years was a visit to Conwy and its beautiful castle.
Conwy itself is a lovely little town situated on the estuary of the River Conwy on the edge of Snowdonia in the north-west corner of Wales. Approached from the east via the A55 through North Wales, the beauty of this section of the country rivals anything in Britain.
It is a classic walled town full of authentic medieval character. The circuit of walls over three quarters of a mile long is guarded by no less than 22 towers and is recognized as one of the finest in the World. The town is impressive for a number of other reasons too, boasting the oldest house in Wales, the smallest house in Wales and the oldest pub in Wales...

Review of Conwy (Wales)
Advantages: Picturesque, Plenty To See And Do Disadvantages: Can Get Busy During The Summer Months
...For my latest review I have decided to return to another area of the British Isles which has very fond childhood memories for me. This time it is the turn of Snowdonia.
I have been to this area of North Wales on more occasions than I can remember, and each time that I visit even now the magic is still there.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Snowdonia National Park Or Eryri as it is known in Welsh was designated a National Park in 1951 when it became the third National Park to be created in England and Wales.
The Park covers a vast area of 838 square miles, which incorporates two different Mountain ranges, the Carneddau, and Glyderau Mountain ranges. The highest peak in these Mountains is Yr Wyddfa which means "The Tomb" in Welsh, standing 3560 feet above sea level this is Britain's highest point outside of Scotland, and it is more...
Advantages: The Peace the quiet.. lambs the exhilirating gorgeous views... Disadvantages: The weather out of season...WET!
...can for the price,so I wasn't building my hopes to high incase this was a pooper instead of a joy!
But I needn't have worried.
The joy of north wales is, you are never far away from scenery peace, or/and a major tourist attraction/fascinating place of fun suitable to visit for the little ones to the oldest !
BUT WHERE THE HUMMER IS NANT PERIS!??
About 8 miles from Caernarfon really. (Tesco's, Spar and all other major amenities) including of course the castle and golf!) about 29-30 miles via the mountains from Betwsy-co-ed /Swallow falls etc.
Capel Curig 5 miles ( Activities center)
Nant Peris is a small village where sheep doth oft stray from the mountains and hills surrounding it -I know cos it happened in both Llanberis and Nant P. it's just 2 miles S.East below the Llanberis part of Snowdonia itself.
With views of Crib...
Advantages: Some of the best riding in the UK Disadvantages: If you're a die hard MTB nut, none
...I've just come back from a week in Snowdonia with some friends and, as anyone who knows me would expect, my mountain bike. You see, right now North Wales is very much the in place to go for mountain biking, something to do with the fact that IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association) have decided that Wales is on a par with the sport's birthplace of California in terms of places to go and have a bit of two wheeled fun. The main centre for all the fuss is Coed-y-Brenin, a forest about half way between Dolgellau and Porthmadog, which is where we decided to have our week of two wheeled fun.
We spent the week in a self catering log cabin in Trawsfynydd, only about three miles away from the trailhead at Coed-y-Brenin. The cabins are privately owned and are let out via Trawfynydd Holidays Ltd for quite reasonable sums of money...
...The Snowdonia National Park has some of the most beautiful and breath-taking scenery in England and Wales.
You can walk on the moors, sail on a mountain lake, explore the numerous copper mines and even cycle for miles on safe cycle routes. What's more you can enjoy the wildlife and beauty when doing it.
The Snowdonia National Park Authority works with local landowners, to look after the area, but at the same time, they allow visitors to visit and enjoy this area of out-standing natural beauty, without spoiling the area.
The National Park stretches 840 square miles, which includes sandy beaches, forests and mountains.
The main attraction though has to be the mountain it's self. Snowdon stands 1,085 metres above sea level making it the highest peak in England and Wales.
If you do visit Snowdonia don't forget to ride...
