...The Pentium 4 interfaces with the motherboard using a new socket, named Socket-423. In fact, after the first half of 2001 the Pentium 4 will start to be available in both a Socket-423 and a Socket-478 version. The latter will be due to replace Socket-423 much like Socket-370 replaced Slot-1. For those of you that currently have Slot-1 CPUs, do you want to be in the same situation with the Pentium 4 as you current are with your CPU? In contrast, AMD plans to stick with Socket-A for at least a little while longer. The next generation Athlon and Duron CPUs, according to AMD, will work in current Socket-A boards however you will obviously need a new board with 266MHz (133MHz DDR) FSB support if you want to get the most out of a 266MHz FSB CPU. Advantages: keep little fingers out of sockets

...Little fingers love to explore, to find holes to poke themselves in, or pick up things to poke into holes. Inquisitive fingers great until it comes to putting them in the electric socket and getting a fatal electric shock. So make your sockets safe if you have young children around. I have made the sockets safe at work.I shall recommend My daughter has safe sockets in her house(I thought you had some already) I shall be making mine safe before baby Adrian gets inquisitive. There are several socket guards available these are the ones I have at work. I do not think it maters much which style you get but I would certainly recommend that electric sockets have a safety cover of some kind. These ones I think by Tomee Tippee are fairly good and cheap. ...and paid just £1.99 for a set of 6 socket covers. It is a small price to pay for the safety of a child and every home that has small children living there or visiting should have them. What they are is round plastic shaped disk that have three plastic prongs placed the same place where prongs would be on a plug socket. I say round but I have a few years ago purchased some that was in the shape of a triangle. They come in a pack of 6 white socket covers, so you may need to buy more than one pack if you have lots of sockets in the reach of a small child. To use them all you have to do is push them into any electrical sockets the same way you would push a plug in. These are then left in place and are safe to keep in the socket even if the socket is switched on. To remove them is easy too but can be a little tight so what those broken... Read review

...106 - lovely little car but working on it is a nightmare. All I wanted to do was change some brake pads but just couldn't find a socket to fit the brake caliper bolt. When I gave up and squeezed myself under the car to take a good look at the bolt I found that the reason that no socket would fit was that the bolt head had 5 sides not 6 like every other bolt on the planet !!! I think that part of the reasoning is to ensure that you don't try and remove it with a spanner (and strip it) but more likely just to ensure you take it to the dealer. So be warned, you'll have to find the right tool (I couldn't), get one of those magic 'fits all' socket sets or just resign to going to the professionals :) Other places where proprietry fixings are used : distributer cap, battery. ...The VX-G143 is a 14-inch TV and video combo; it comes in a stylish Metallic Grey finish with easy to use buttons for the TV and Video functions. For A/V connections there is 1 SCART input and aerial socket on the back of the set with A/V sockets for connecting to a camcorder and headphones socket on the front. However there are no audio outputs so if you are stuck you can use the headphones socket but this does not substitute for a proper set of line out sockets. The sound on the set itself is not brilliant and lacks depth and bass making the sound very tinny. Picture quality is reasonable, and video play back supports both PAL and NTSC. The menus are easy enough to use to control all the functions like adjusting picture, signal tuning, volume and also setting the pin-code to make the TV semi secure. ...At first i believed that this product would be not be any good as it was so cheap but as soon as i used it, i realised that this particular hairdyer was extrelely great for the price i bought this for, it is nothing fancy, and it has no gadgets but if all you all you want is a simple, good, trusty handy hairdryer then this is a perfects match, and it is within an affordable price range. However i do find their is a disadvantage with this specific product as the cord is not very long, meaning i cannot stray far from the plug socket without pulling it out of the socket, so if you have a plug socket far from where you would want to dry your hair i reccomend you do buy this product. .... Then you can plug the router straight into your phone line. Anyway... The device could scarcely be easier to set up. Literally, you plug the internet connection into one socket, each of up to four computers into the four sockets for the router, plug it into the mains, and you are away. There is very little configuration to do, since with wired-only routers there is less potential security risks than with wireless. That said, it has a comprehensive web interface to configure the firewall, port forwarding, MAC address cloning etc etc, but you probably will not even need to use it. It comes with a setup wizard CD for Windows machines which I somehow managed to lose and never used, but the instructions card in the box gives very straightforward manual setup instructions, so it is perfectly easy to manage without it. ...with the settings made it better. The remote is fairly bad and unresponsive, and the sky remotes don't have the code in to control this TV, so I'm stuck using it to turn the TV on and adjust the volume, which is a pain. I've recently upgraded to Sky HD and despite all the rumours of this TV not being compatible, it is, it is connected via the component socket to the TV, giving a 720p picture - 1080i is not supported on this TV, but the picture is amazing on the HD programmes. These TV's have improved a lot now, but this is a decent set at what was a decent price when I bought it, but like everything the price on LCD TV's has dropped. 1 thing to consider is that although this TV will run HD, it doesn't have a HDMI socket on it, so is not actually classed as HD ready, so may n ot work with blue ray or HD DVD players in the future.... ...This router is an ideal budget device to share a broadband internet connection between multiple computers. It does not contain a modem of any kind, so it is only suited to NTL or Telewest connections in the UK, as they supply their own modems with network sockets. There may be others I am not aware of, but generally it will not work with any ADSL broadband connections, because the supplied modems generally only have USB connectors, and not network sockets. Setting the unit up is very simple. There is one socket to plug the cable modem into (one short network cable is supplied), one socket for the mains power, and four sockets for any computers you wish to connect with a cable. Out of the box it will "just work" with no setup required - the default settings work perfectly OK with NTL or Telewest systems, though you may have to restart... Read review
