After being called one of the best thrillers of the year I had been really looking forward to watching State Of Play and after it finally began showing on Sky Box Office on Monday I jumped at the chance to view what everybody else had been writing rave reviews about. State Of Play starts off at a quick pace with a double murder happening in the first five minutes however from there on things start to go downhill. The film becomes very slow and bogged down, it seems that the director has chosen an overcomplicated plot to market this film as a tense, clever suspense thriller which this film most certainly is not. What state of mind thought of this one...???

Advantages: 5 for £10.00 deal for 4 nights at blockbusters... so i didn't feel too ripped off
Disadvantages: dull, boring, tedious, un-thrilling (if that's a word), and drawn out.

State of Play - a superb drama

Advantages: Superb acting and clever story

...HAT IS IT: State of Play is a six part BBC drama first shown in 2003. It has recently been adapted into a Hollywood film starring Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren. The original series began with two seemingly unrelated deaths: the shooting of a young man thought to be drugs related and the death of a young female political researcher. Review of Empire State Building, New York

state and main shame

...Enemy Of The State is a production from Jerry bruckheimer but carries the rare thing of actually having a solid plot and not much cheesy dialougue. If you don't know the story then here goes. A member of government is murdered when it's known that he'll vote against a bill to allow some dodgy intrusive surveillance. Trouble is the murder was taped and by a chain of events mnagages to end up in the hands of one Will Smith, a decent living guy with family. He doesn't know whats on the tape but is soon driven out of his home and becomes a hunted man. Along the way he meets an ex-NSA guy (Gene Hackman) who helps him outwit the NSA who remain in hot pursuit through some very adavanced gadgets. The film really raises the question of who is watching us without our knowing but has the necessary thrills ans spills to make it entertaining...

I've read all his Jurassic Park novels, unwittingly watched movies based on his books and loved ER which I didn't realise until recently he was responsible for.
