An Atrac-tive player

Advantages: Ultimate in portability, use in car or on foot

...Once upon a time I had a car, and it had a radio that didn't work and a cassette player that did. So I used to tape my CD's onto cassettes to listen to in the car. This wasn't ideal, after all a tape only plays for a relatively short time before it needs turning over, but that was all I had. Then I saw an advert in the paper for the Sony D-NE518CK , a CD/mp3 player which came with a car kit that simply went into the cassette slot and you could get upto 30 hours of music one disc. My mouth dropped and I said ?WOW, I've got to get one of them!!!?. CD/MP3 player of kings

Advantages: MP3 playback and long battery life
Disadvantages: The random function doesn't work properly

...Whenever I?ve had to choose a CD player like this, for me or for a present, the first thing I look at is the battery time. This is what first led me to this player, it advertises 30+ hours of CD playback and 48 hours of mp3 playback (these are for non-stop playback, with no skipping. Using the skip a lot will reduce battery time and giving it resting time between playbacks increases battery time.) Those numbers seemed pretty amazing to me from just 2AA batteries. So I bought it.... The round shape looks great and I can?t see how a CD player could get much smaller. It feels very well built, and it takes very big bumps (unusually big) to get it to skip. The remote control is useful for whenever you are carrying it around in your pocket or a bag and don?t want to have to reach into your pocket and fumble around for the buttons...

The Perfect cd player

...I came across this product whilst bored after doing my homework, fantasising about an ipod so I could store all my music. Whilst searching around the Internet I stumbled over many CD Mp3 players. I'd never heard of them before so I was intrigued to find out more. I had owned a Sony Minidisc player for about 2 years, and had become fed up with having to change the Minidisc every so often (yes I'm very lazy!) and it had become broken and did not want to send it of to the manufacturers to mend it which would have been very costly. A CD Mp3 player can store up to 30 albums onto one CD. This is very handy and by far easier than my previous Minidisc player is. Sony do it again

Advantages: Beautiful, well designed, excellent remote, battery life, features, outputs
Disadvantages: Horrid software, "spin up" time in atrac/mp3 playback could have been better avoided

...You rightly expect something special from Sony's "flagship" CD player, after all they more or less invented the whole portable audio player market single-handedly. The D-NE1 certainly looks the part, consisting of brushed aluminium top panels with transparent plastic surround so you can see your cd spinning merrily, and all the various sockets and buttons discreetly placed round the outer edge of the unit. It's also small - only slightly wider in diameter than a cd, and less than 2cm thick. It's multi-format playback supports standard cd audio (unsurprisingly!), but also mp3, ATRAC3 and ATRAC3plus formats. I ended up buying a Sony D-NE511 Atrac / Mp3 Portable Discman for £60. Oops. Sony produce a range of these Atrac discmans and as you would expect the more you pay, the better the features. But I went for the D-NE511 model because it seemed to have everything I needed, despite being the cheapest in the range. ...This CD/mp3 deck was a birthday gift tyo myself back in 2004, however, it was stolen about a month later from my car in the mall's parking lot! (And if that was not enough, they got the deck, the remote, my 2 amplifiers and my CD pouch, which was in the car, but they left the box, which was still in the trunk!) Sony definetly not kings of sound

Advantages: Fashionable, sleek, very loud, good use of technology
Disadvantages: Poor sound, annyoing beep!

...after a while becomes a real pain and super annoying. In conclusion, i wasn't too impressed with my D-NE711. It looks really nice, has some nice features and great technology but really, whats the point buying any player if the sound it outputs is sub-standard? It let me down and i don't think i'l be reccomending this player to anyone in a hurry.
