...Welcome my friend, to the Clie Club, if you want to join it. I've had this stylish device for about a year now, so I have a good lot to write about. I'll start with the design. It is stylish, easy to use and impressive to on-lookers. The screen unnerved me somewhat at first, as this is a very expensive piece of metal and I did not want to twist the screen the wrong way. Let me explain, this PDA's screen you are able to flip up, twist and then flip back down, so that the screen is covering the keyboard, great for watching film clips etc. although I mostly have it with just the screen flipped up, as I am an avid writer and like to use the small keyboard. I find the 'thumboard' very useful although the screen is at slightly an awkward angle if you are holding it for a long time whilst typing. The device has Sony Clie written on it...

Sony have excelled themselves with this clie

Advantages: Funky, Light, and long lasting battery
Disadvantages: Not full version microsoft word / excel

...This clie is not only funky in its two colours, but the lithium battery is a superb addition to its black and white predecessor, which suffered with dying every few hours, this lithuim battery not only lasts an amazing length of time (see spec below), its rechargeable. The hot synch cradle is a great must have when buying this clie, and the first accessory i went out and brought to ensure not only constand charging, but complete synch with my computer. The graffiti text takes some time to get used to, even with the little handy guide that comes with it, I still struggle to get some of the letters right and resort to bringing up the on screen keyboard, although sony do sell a mini keyboard to go with this clie. The MP3 player is a great new addition as well, enabling me to download some of my fave mp3s which i then played on holiday...

PEG my CLIE to the edge of the bed darling!

Advantages: It's like a mini laptop, it's pretty, swivel screen, bluetooth and wireless networking
Disadvantages: Keyboard quite hard to use, stupid keychain hole in the corner, lacks software, memory upgrade limited

...can do are the classic 'chopstick' 2 finger attack or the 'phone thumb' typing technique. The keys are also clicky like the button you press on your MP3 Player. This is annoying as everytime you type you have to endured the click click click. There's only so much clicking a man can take before he gets really annoyed and it's worse because this CLIE has a word processor... shudder. The keyboard is also designed strangely in a wavy thing that raises each row of keys up. It's a shame the keys are set level with the raising-ness because that makes it harder to press on. The OS that comes with it is the Palm OS 5, it seems Sony have chosen Palm's latest OS over Microsoft's Windows CE 2003. But this OS is very fast and you can browse through the menus so easily using your stylus or the arrow keys on the keyboard (use your stylus!) The OSes...

Sony Clie NZ90 with Palm OS

Advantages: Brilliant PDA and camera
Disadvantages: camera often unusable due to poor battery life

...I bought my NZ90 as a second user as this device is grossly expensive if you may not utilise it to the full. I really fancied a reasonably decent digital camera and PDA functionality. I would have preferred a handheld PC but they do not seem to be available with the camera. I bought this unit knowing it was described as the most cumbersome in the Clie range. You cannot have everything, and its size is a compromise. I also wanted the intergrated keypad. The camera has no viewfinder, but I can promise you, it has produced a brilliant 10x8 ins indoor picture and I am more than happy with the resolution, no graininess whatsoever. The downside is you really need an extra battery pack or two. An original slot in one would set you back around £60 but there are expansion packs available. I paid extra for Documents to Go. Advantages: Most functional / stylish / value for money PDA avialable on the market, does anthing you want
Disadvantages: every so slightly bulky

...I have one of these little fellas which i use for work on a daily basis. I am a relatively new PDA user and have only being using this item for 4 months, but with the easy User Interface that Sony have designed into this magical hand held it is a doddle to work around. The Ultimate PDA Laptop - Get one now!

Advantages: Brilliant design, clear display, full qwerty keyboard, WiFi, Bluetooth
Disadvantages: Poor battery life, patchy screen size support

...the UX50 is the last Clie PDA Sony released outside Japan and they have since ceased production of all PDAs instead focusing on the ultra portable PC market. Subsequent models have been released, but most seem to be minor refinements to this, Sony's greatest PDA. For those who really must have bleeding edge technology, hop on over to the Sony site and check out the new Vaio range of PDAs; Sony have squeezed a 20Gb hard drive running Windows XP into a device the same size as the UX50. I would suggest that this PDA is a must have for the fashionable geek.   Sony, help...I've lost my memory

Advantages: Useful 'Gadget' to have to if your not very good at remembering things (i.e. me). Its Sony so its well designed and Jog Dial is fantastic. Palm OS PDA is great.
Disadvantages: Its a PDA so only has a lifespan of a year unless you are satisfied with it. Memory Stick is expensive and you cant run programs from it.

...of buying second-hand. A quick browse on Ebay, and the Sony Clie PEG S300 came to my attention. This was Sony?s first attempt at a Palm OS PDA, which came out roughly at the end of 2000/beginning of 2001. It fitted the criteria. Monochrome screen, with 8MB of memory, an expansion slot with a potential of an extra 128Mb of memory, and sleek looks. So I bid for it and my winning bid of £82 for the PDA and a full size fold out keyboard, I think I bagged myself quite a bargain. The fold out keyboard use to sell for £80 alone!
