Sony DCR-TRV15E Handycam

Advantages: Becoming cheap, lightweight, feature packed.
Disadvantages: standard battery doesnt last long

...Sony have always had a great name in the market for Camera, as an entry level Camcorder, its quite capable of holding its own, and it wont be long until your video can be transfered from Camera and onto the PC, or sent off to Jeremy Beadle or who ever does that show these days. I find the TRV15E is quite light around 600g and fits neatly into the hand, within easy reach are the power buttons, snapshot and zoom buttons. The Camera has a digital Zoom of 120x. Hidden under the 2.5in colour screen are all the other controls for volume, search, display and playback. Beneath these buttons you also have the focus, fader and backlight , all within easy reach when your shooting your latest masterpiece. I use my camera all day at dog shows, the standard battery last about 1 hour of continuous use, only problem I have found is the tapes...

  Complexity make you groany? Just pick up a Sony!

Advantages: Fairly cheap, easy to use, good range of features, looks cool!
Disadvantages: Digital8 cassettes, no memory stick slot.

I love Sony, a joy to use.

Advantages: Easy to use for the novice, loads of features for the more experienced.
Disadvantages: I still haven't found any.

...with different settings and making film clips join together in lots of different ways, they all look pretty good but experimenting and over experimenting made some of my films look like a kid put them together and used every available editing tool on them. Still a great learning curve, better films in the future. I have found that Sony camcorder batteries last longer than other makes that I have used which is why I chose a sony this time. There is nothing more frustrating than filming on holiday and running out of battery life half way through the day, the Sony lasts about 12 hours if you don't use the zoom much or the LCD display, if you play about with the settings like I do and zoom in and out just for fun then they don't last anywhere near as long, but still longer than some other popular makes.
