Sony DVP-NS38B - good cheap multiregion DVD player

Disadvantages: A bit complicated!

...When my trusty old DVD player finally died, I bought the Sony DVP-NS38 B as its replacement for approximately £60. My requirements for a DVD player were extremely basic: I wanted an entry level multi-region DVD player. So I headed off to my local Richer Sounds and had a look at the two or three that satisfied my requirements and didn't look too flimsy and picked the one that they happened to have in stock. According to the manual, as well as commercial DVDs, this model supports a variety of different formats: DVD-RW/-R, DVD+RW/+R/+R DL, Video CD, Music CD and CD-RW/-R. The DVD player is very thin, meaning that not many buttons or controls fit on it, and the LED display is very small and does not contain a lot of information. Sony DVP NS76H Upscaling DVD player

Advantages: Upscales exisiting movies, Much cheaper than a BluRay player
Disadvantages: Doesn't come with HDMI cable

A Great DVD Player - SONY DVP-NS330

Advantages: Excellent quality, looks good/ modern, can play most formats
Disadvantages: Cannot play PAL in colour eg some extreme sports DVD's or old movies

...I bought this DVD Player about 2 years ago now for £99 from a high street shop which I thought was a total bargain seeing as it is a Sony. I have never had any problems with it at all and find it plays most formats of DVD. It also plays mp3s, DVD - RW / -R/ +RW and + R discs. QUALITY - Visual quality is fantastic, playing all DVDs in really sharp colour, it doesn't seem to stop halfway through a disc for a second like other DVD players do. The sound quality is pretty good with the capability of Dolby Surround which is a bonus for most people as a lot of people now have surround sound systems. You can also connect it to a Sony stack which would be like your hi-fi or something if you don't have a Sony hi-fi. Sony DVP NS305 review

Advantages: Easy to Use
Disadvantages: Difficult to use without remote control

...Having had my sony unit for around 12 months now, I have decided to share some information with you. Having recieved this DVD player as a gift, I am unsure as to how much the unit retailed at, but a quick search on most sites will give you a rough idea. The unit is a very slimline one, fitting nicley on top of my current TV. It also is the same size as the other sony seperates available, so a system would be all the same width. It is finshed in silver, which was an unusual choice when it first debuted. It has a SCART output and RGB as well, but for me the lack of RF (standard aeiral) output put me at a disadvantage as my old TV doesnt have any scart leads. It is a simple to use unit, with most features accessible from the handheld. However if one was to lose this control, then several functions wouldnt be accesable...

Satisfied with my Sony

Advantages: Good picture, good sound, easy to use
Disadvantages: None for me

...in the shop matched all three of my criteria, my choice was not made any easier. So in the end I plumped for one that was 'entry level' and was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. And one that I liked the look of. That one was the Sony DVP NS305, and as I left the shop I had no idea whether or not I'd made the right decision. I still don't know if I could have got more spec for my money, if I could have got one that does things I've never even heard of, or if I could have got one better built. I don't care. I like my Sony DVP NS305 very much and it does everything I require of it very well. The NS305 is classed as an 'entry level' player, which I think means it's suitable for people like me who are new to DVDs and are not looking for the most sophisticated on the market, or one that encompasses the latest capabilities...

Sony DVD Player

Advantages: Durable and with great sound and picture quality.

...This Sony DVD player is incredible. This is without a doubt the best DVD player I have ever owned. It is attractive, sleek, and appealing. It is also very durable. When I first received it I dropped it accidentally and I thought it was broken for sure. It turns out it was just scuffed. So I took to my TV right away and hooked it up. It was great. It played all my DVD's and never overheated. I used it plenty of times and I still have it and it is still one of the smartest purchases I have ever made. If you have the chance and the money handy to pick up this product I would suggest you did. Hopefully you will have the same great experience as me except for the dropping it part well enjoy....

I chose this player for a number of reasons including the Sony brand. The player itself is compact and sleek, very attractive and slim-line.
