Sony DCR DVD201E Camcorder
Advantages: Widescreen mode
Disadvantages: slow access to dvd, no separate memory card slot
...I suspect people may be surpised that I haven't included one of the main USP's (Unique Selling Point) as an advantage.
This camcorder writes to mini-dvd's (-R/-RW) but thats not necessarily an advantage. I'll come back to that in a minute. Lets go through the good stuff first.
The best thing is the widescreen mode. All TV's sold these days are widescreen and to be honest they have been widescreen for a number of years now so why manufactures have waited so long to release a camcorder with a widescreen mode is beyond me. However Sony have finally done it and its great.
I now record footage and play it back on my TV in the correct proportions without any of that faffing about with changing the aspect mode on your TV. Also my wife doesn't appear stretched on TV thus removing all talk about 'Does my bum look big on this TV'
Theres...

Filming In The Dark.
Advantages: Nice, Easy To Use/ Picture Quality
Disadvantages: Accompaning Software Is An Hassle/ Battery Life Is Minimal
...We have had only two or three camcorders over the years, and one of them is this one here. The Sony Handycam DCR DVD201
is a digital 8' camcorder which sports 8mm/Hi8 playback. It also has the cabability of memory stick recording.
The camcorder arrives packaged nicely in its box and is accompanied with a manual to help you explore and understand the new product. The manual is clearly labelled and illustrated and proves easy to follow. Oh, let's not forget the remote control that also comes with it!
The controller has a rocker switch to control zoom, as well as the common record, stop functions. There is also a button to control playback functions. However, there are many functions that are unavailable without the remote. To name a few; frame-by-frame, slow motion playback, date search, photo search. The batteries required...

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY !!!!
Advantages: Wide screen mode, image quality, DVD media
Disadvantages: Problems copying the disks, editing!!!
...I bought this camcorder about 6 months ago. It?s the first camcorder I?ve ever owned so I m not a camcorder expert - I just wanted one that was easy to use and good quality to film my holidays and our soon to be born first child!
This little Sony seemed ideal for my purposes. It?s small, light and when I pop a newly finalised DVD into my player, image quality and sound are simply superb. This method of recording is so convenient it?s untrue. The DVD?s can record for 30mins at standard quality mode. You can also take an almost limitless number of photographs, which, thanks to the 1 mega pixel resolution and decent Carl Zies lens, make respectable snaps when printed at standard photo size.
The build quality and overall feel of the camera are of typically high Sony standard. The screen is clear and will automatically adjust it...

Sony Handycam
Advantages: Great Features, Easy to use, Sony product - well priced and quality, Durable
Disadvantages: None
.... The battery would have a lot of power on it but it would still turn off. I expect this Handycam to be in the family for a long time to come. I think it will last for many years because it is well made and technicaly superb.
*Range/Quality of Features*
This Sony Handycam does have a large number of different features and functions that it can perform. This is another positive about the camera which made my Dad purchase it in the first place.
The camera has a Digital Zoom capability of 120x. This allows the user to get really close up shots of objects in the distance. This Handycam can double up as a Webcam for your PC. This is quite a good feature to have, because it saves you a few quid not having to buy your own Webcam. The Viewfinder, or screen for some people, is high quality. It is an LCD monitor which gives you really clear images...

The Energizer Battery Charger
Advantages: Good value for money
Disadvantages: Takes a long time to charge batteries
...I had been intending to purchase a battery charger for quite a while. In fact I had even dropped hints to certain family members around Christmas time, but to no avail. I was recently reminded of this missing piece of equipment in my life when I rediscovered the PC lead to my digital camera. Remembering that a pair of standard batteries lasted for only about 30 photos in this camera I decided that it was certainly time to invest in a battery charger and some rechargeable batteries.
I purchased an Energizer CHDCW8 ? 4 battery charger from Argos for just £9.99. This decision was based on several factors, the most important of which was the price and what I considered to be the best value for money. The design also played a part in my decision process, but in the end it was the price/value that were the strongest influencing factors...

Sony Handycam DCR DVD202E - a beauty
Advantages: Watch playback instantly
Disadvantages: Price of Rewritable DVDs - well worth it though
...~#What you need to know!#~
This is the same camera that you see on the sony adverts. And I believe this new direct recording on to DVD is going to drastically change the way we view Camcorders. It really is stupidy easy to shoot and film, even for novices such as myself.
The 1.07 Megapixels Advanced HAD CCD enables unbelievably true image recording. I'm not sure whether on the images it is still 1.07Mp's as I have another sony camera with 7.2Mp and the image quality is identical. Also the 12x optical zoom offers all of the close-ups that you could imagine. However after taken the pictures there is a 480x digital zoom which allows you to people watch on you street beautifully!
Finally for this section the coloured view finder enables you to snap instantly and quickly what you require. Also its rotating system allows...

Sony Handycam DCR TRV285E
Advantages: good quality pictures, small, stylish, remote control
Disadvantages: Only 90 mins battery life, can be confusing connecting to PC
...The Sony Handycam DCR TRV285E is a great camera for first time users. This camera can easily be operated without even having to read the instruction manual. It has the "Easy Handycam" feature which sets the camera settings automatically. The camera is light and easy to use. When recording there is a zoom function, the ability to have a title for the movie and various faders for opening and closing shots. The camera has a nightvision mode which uses infrared and gives you an eeirie green appearance to everything which is actually quite handy, or if filming in dull locations there is a handy light on the front of the camera. The camera can also be used to take still shots with a simple press of a button, this means you don't need to carry your normal camera as well.
The camera comes with a remote control which allows you to control...

Sony Handycam DCR HC14e
Advantages: Use of the Carl Ziess Lens, The Sony Badge, new Touch screen 2.5" LCD
Disadvantages: LCD screen needs cleaing as finger print marks get all over it
...once you are back in the comfort of your own sofa, be carefull not to loose it down the back of the sofa thou.
Weight, with any camcorder it needs a tape and Li-on rechargeable battery to work, with the standard battery the weight is average around 520 g, the strap provides a comfortable holding position. Some camcorders on the marker are slightly lighter, but you pay the price for that privilege.
The DCR HC14E is very light compared with camcorders of a few years back. You can up grade the battery to run almost double the standard running time.
Recording and Playback, making sure your Mini DV tape it inserted into the camera, via the bottom the camcorder, and that you are not going to record over you baby?s first steps, you use the switch located by your right thumb, to slide it to recording. Pushing the red record button...
