Sony KDL-40W4500
Advantages: Class leading HD pictures, Well above average SD pictures, 100hz technology
Disadvantages: Even though this set is cheap at £850, £850 is still a lot of money.
...still produce good quality SD pictures.
I considered the Sony KDL-40W4000 for quite some time. However even though this is towards the top end of Sony's range, (only the flagship X range is significantly better), it still doesn't produce a SD picture that I find good enough. On the other hand, the HD performance of the W4000 is amongst the best in it's class. In time I will be watching more and more HD, so it is also very important to me to get class leading HD pictures.
Luckily Sony seem to agree. They have come up with this, the KDL-40W4500. It's basically the W4000 with some enhancements. The main ones being 100hz scanning and improved motion control. The HD picture is improved over the W4000, making it the equal of sets in the £2000-£3000 range. But more importantly for me, the SD picture is vastly improved over the W4000...

SONY KDL-40 W 2000
Advantages: Almost Everything!!!
Disadvantages: Almost Anything!!!
...switched it on and i followed the simple instructions (in 1 million different languages) to tune it in and fine tune the brightness and contrast.
My friend has a cheap LCD 42" and he litrally needs the curtains closed to get a half decent picture but this TV had perfect picture clarity in broard daylight (which is brilliant)!
It has built in FreeView which has a good signal where i live (in Ipswich) and the EPG (electronic program guide) is good. I am not using Freeview but have plugged my Sky+ box into it.
I would suggest getting a Sony HD DVD recorder and Sky+ to get the best from this truely amazing setup!!!
And for you xBox 360 fans out there - IT IS HD!!!!!!!!! My mate brought around his xBox (mine is being repaired) and it is spectacular. The picture quality is amazing and you can really notice the difference between my old...

BRAVIA KDL-40W4000 - my second BRAVIA
Advantages: Standard and HD images are exceptional + Trendy/modern + range of features
Disadvantages: disgustingly high prices, particularly in department stores!
...This is my second BRAVIA review. I was so impressed with my v4000, that I bought the newest of the range - the KDL40W4000 - for my living room. It is one of the best purchases I have ever made - not solely electronic-wise - and arrived in good time for Christmas. I am having so much fun watching films on it and have been itching to write a review...so here it is! Enjoy, and feel free to ask questions in my guestbook!

Sony packs a punch
Advantages: Stunning when used with blu ray and high definition broadcasts
Disadvantages: easily smudged screen and initially confusing menu
...Sony are just about the top of the league when it comes to audovisual fare. The Sony KDL40W5500 accordingly costs a pretty penny although if you know where to go it can be had for a pretty reasonable cost compared to lesser rivals. The set may look pretty but there are prettier rivals. The picture, when used with your own digital service or DVD, is pretty good with sharp colours and clear images. The sound is clear and distinct. I would recommend that you hang this set well out of the way since the screen easily picks up smudges from little fingers and pens/pencils can easily damage the rather fragile screen.
All well and good you say but is it worth the money? Well kind of. The set really comes into its own when its doing what it is supposed to do with high definition broadcasts and movies. This is when the super sharp pictures...

Sony KDL40W4500 is well made and delivers ecellent picture
Advantages: Picture quality, 100hz processing
Disadvantages: Pricey, no white balance option
...Extremely sharp picture in HD, and as one reviewer has already commented, well above average watching SD too, something 90% of people will spend far more time actually doing.Even the sound isnt too shoddy, and thats something for a flat screen which of course doesnt tend to make for a decent speaker shape.
This telly is quite a looker - it sports a transparent segment of perspex between the slightly glossy LCD screen and the finely perforated speaker grille. The bezel and (to a lesser extent) the speaker grille are finished in polished black; and the ensemble is underlined by a thin silver strip spanning the entire width of the frame. Whilst not as slim as some of the latest offerings from rival manufacturers, the KDL40W4500 manifests solid build quality and a touch of style. Overall I am really very pleased with this set....

40 inches of pure pleasure!!
Advantages: Superby picture quality. Crystal clear HD, plenty of inputs
Disadvantages: Pricey if you don't shop around
...--Background --
The 40W4100 had won many awards so we decided to take the plunge and buy it as our first LCD tv. After many trips to local electrical stores and hours of research on the net, it became aparrent that this tv was a step above the rest and although the price was also a great deal higher, we decided to go for it. However, I smelt a bargain. This tv was being advertised anywhere between £850 and £1000 at most places. During my research I came across a place in Coventry, not far from us who were selling the tv for an attractive £683. I was a bit sceptical about why this relatively small company could be so cheap compared to everywhere else. Off I went to the Sony Centre, armed with my printout in the hope they would price match for me. Alas, the Sony Centre told me this other company were selling, in effect factory...

Sony KDL-46W5500 - awesome LCD TV with stunning pictures
Advantages: Stunning pictures, loaded with features, useful extra connection options
Disadvantages: Expensive - but it is a Sony
...Finally decided to upgrade my old Trintron CRT and spent the past 3 months or so looking at the various LCDs available out there. I initially settled on a Sony KDL46W4500 after seeing one in a store and was just about to part with my hard earned cash when I started reading reviews and read about the so-called dreaded 'backlight bleed'. Given the high cost of the Sony, this completely put me off, so it was back to the drawing board for me.
I spent more time looking around but never quite found a set I fancied as much as the 46W4500, that was until the Sony KDL46W5500 came out. I couldn't find any reviews but found it online at a very competitive price so I decided to take a chance on it.
All I can say is I'm glad I took the risk. The picture on this set is nothing short of stunning. I don't have HD installed yet but the SD picture is...

Sony KDL-40S2530U 40" HD Ready IDTV Twin HDMI
Advantages: 40" black cheapish, good brand, great picture, high spec
Disadvantages: overwelling features, loads to go wrong
...(such snobbery, not me my missus).
I spent hours searching the interweb looking for TV's using Ciao, Kelkoo Price runner to no avail.
Then I tripped across a not so well know site, how I got to it I don’t know but the site digitaldirect.co.uk seemed worth the Sherlock Holmes treatment.
And it was £20 delivery for UK main land yea! And £855.01 for a black Sony TV Bobs your uncle, I order it on line and it was setup and working 3 days later.
The TV is a thin slender and very light compared to the stogy brick we moved out, I had not bought a TV for years having had no need but my how things have changed.
The spec list and techy gumf for this TV is out of this world so I'll start.
The TV SONY.KDL-40S2530U 40" HD Ready IDTV Twin HDMI.
The screen size is a diagonal 40" with wait for it 1366x768 pixels resolution, (I must...

Sony Bravia KDL-40V4000 - great for Hi-Def users
Advantages: Speedy channel navigation + table-top stand swivels + clean standard-def input
Disadvantages: no white balance control - doesn't smooth jagged edges from interlaced well - average motion resolution
...of a solid crystal, and appliances such as digital alarm clocks and calculators employ this feature. Why? Perhaps the main reason is because it uses little electric power.
Believe it or not, Sony were actually one of the last companies to join the LCD revolution; at one time, they only had TWO LCD lines whilst attempting to produce their own flat-panel technology. This didn't work out, leaving it up to Samsung to bring them back up-to-date!
The Bravia range is now a world-wide success and have a "little more" than two series and models! ;)

Sony KDL-40X3000
Advantages: Accurate Colours, Deep Blacks, Great HD picture
Disadvantages: Below-par video processing, expensive
...This television, for me, offers essentially everything - but at a price.
Aesthetics wise, it is excellent, the glass surround adding an extra element of design often missing in new televisions. There are plenty of connections available for use on the X3000/X3500, including HDMIx3 and Componentx3, and a USB slot.
Generally, I feel the Television offers very good image quality via SD Freeview, Sky or Virgin Media. During fast action scenes such as sports, the video processing of the Bravia Engine Pro lets the set down a bit - occasionally pixelated areas appear. This can be improved by activating the 'MotionFlow 100Hz' feature available, but it cannot be truely eliminated. However, HD is, as is most sets, where the Sony shines. The picture quality on Blu-Ray discs and the PlayStation 3 is excellent, with little to no motion blurring...
