Disadvantages: Bulky (by today's standards), expensive to buy

...I've owned this camera for about four years. I bought it after reviewing other cameras in the same price bracket and although the first company I tried to buy it from told me it would be too heavy for a woman (it weighs about 1.5 lbs) I was going from a non-digital SLR that was much heavier. I have never regretted my decision to buy it. The functions are easy to understand and the convenient storage on a CD-RW makes transfer to the computer very straightforward. The macro function is excellent and taking a very close photo of flower is a piece of cake. The results are truly professional. It will take a good photo in all light conditions with or without the flash and for really dark situations it has a projected light grid that shows where the centre of the screen is. I would thoroughly recommend it....

Mavica Magic!

Advantages: Built to last forever, 10x optical zoom lens

...I bought my Mavica FD75 around 2 years ago after using, and being very impressed with, an older (FD71?) model at my workplace. By current standards the FD75 is something of a dinosaur and is quite bulky due to it using floppy discs for recording images. The maximum image size that can be saved is 640 x 480 pixels which equates to approx 0.3 megapixels. If you want to print your photos then the absolute maximum size you could hope for would be 6x4", though to be quite honest I've never printed my shots. So why did I buy the FD75? Well, the older Mavica model I'd used at work had proved to be bullet-proof over a number of years heavy useage by many users. Mavica - good but pricey

...The Sony Mavica digital camera is a VGA camera with an intelligent flash. What I like about this one is the you can store your pictures on a floppy disk which you put into the back of the camera. They say that you can get up to 40 pictures on one floppy disk, but unless you select 'fine mode', where you can only store 20, the picture quality is not particularly good. It has six different modes of 'auto-exposure' which to be perfectly honest I don't really understand - the manual was not much help here. It's a nice, good-looking, compact digital camera but I'm still not totally convinced of the results. It's also a rather expensive at £450. Please remember to rate this opinion before you leave. ...Brilliant, user friendly Digital camera! Well done Sony. Chose FD 90 over FD 85. Mavica range was recommended by existing users and I did not consider any other manufacturers. The most difficult task was to choose from the Mavica range. This camera's greatest attribute is recording to floppy disk. No hassle transfers to PC. Camera also has a disk copying feature for on the spot copying. Excellent for web site creation or e-mail transmission of images. Has 16X digital zoom. One of the main purchase criteria for a digital camera was the ability to also have a wide angle lens. This was available as an extra but not many cameras have this option which is essential for internal shots, etc. Various filters are also available of which I also ordered two and a reasonable range of accessories for this camera appears in Sony's catalogue. My Constant Camera Companion

Advantages: great picture quality, convenient cdr image storage. easy to use, good battery life

...I bought my Mavica CD500 about a year and a half ago. Since then I have taken well over 2000 pictures with it. The pictures almost always turn out very well. It is espescially good for close up pictures. For example, it is a delight to take a picture of a flower at the max resolution (5mp) and then look at it in great detail on my computer screen. I am not a photo expert, but have been able to take pictures good enough to enter in art shows with this camera. I really like not having to connect by cable to my pc to upload the pics. Rather, I just take out the cdr mini disk and pop it in my notebook's cd drive. I copy some of the pics onto my hard drive, and save every pic on the cdr disks. Current cdr mini cdrs hold 210mb or about 75 full size pictures, and cost less than a dollar so they are great deals. The camera has many advanced...
