...Sony Walkman NW-E003 MP3 Ahh the first review of a new item, where do I begin… Right I will start by giving you a personal opinion about what I like and dislike about the player. I recently purchased the Sony Walkman when my Apple ipods battery packed in. There has been a lot of controversy recently regarding the battery life of the ipods so when mine packed I was gutted. £250 down the pan. After loosing out on this amount of money I vowed never to spend that sort of money on an MP3 player again. I had a look around the internet and local shops looking for a decent memory, well branded, reasonably priced player. I looked through all brands such as Samsung, Phillips, Panasonic, Zen, and even some of the Mp3 player mobile phones. ...The Sony NW-E005 is a portable MP3 player with USB connector. It comes in a variety of colours, blue, silver, violet, black, and lime green and a range of additional accessories can be purchased separately such as arm bands and cases. It uses internal flash memory starting from 512mb upto the maximum of a 2Gb model retailing at around the £90 mark. The player itself is no bigger then the current range of USB memory sticks on the market today measuring just over 79mm in length and 25g in weight. It features a one line OLED display, headphone jack and 3 user controls. The player comes with Sony's own brand of software called Sonic Stage and bundled Sony Headphones. ...The Sony NW-E10 MP3 player is a very sleek looking device; measuring approximately 8cm high and only 1cm thin, and weighing at only 55 grams, it truly is portable MP3. A flash looking, circular LCD display is located at the top of the device with a blue backlight, which displays relevant information such as track number, battery life, play mode and bass level. A jog-dial style button at the top corner controls playback and skipping forwards and backwards between tracks, with a volume control situated below it. The battery slot is at the bottom of the device along with the USB connection slot. The device can hold upto 128MB worth of MP3 files, with the ability of also storing WMA and ATRAC (Sony's native file format) files too. Advantages: 'Better than iPod' design. 'Better than iPod' look. Battery life (20-25 hours). The entire piece of hardware!
Disadvantages: The abysmal almost unusable software.

...a bit more expensive than the iPod Nano - which is 16Gb less in size!! It's the broken software that lets this product down, not the player - it's such a shame that Sony haven't been able to get it right. They've put so much effort into getting a great MP3 player out for Christmas - and they've forgotten to finish the software. A hardware product with defective software generally makes the hardware unusable, and that is nearly the case with the NW-A 3000. Consider buying it in 2 months but not now - unless you're a computer-geek/(me)audiophile(me)/person who wants to have gorgeous gadgets to show off(sort of me!). This was a big chance for Sony to eat into the iPod market - unfortunately - if they don't sort out the software - they will fail. SO SORT IT OUT SONY!!! N.B. ...I bought the Sony Memory Stick Walkman after about 12 months of 'umming' and 'ahhing' over various makes, models and prices of MP3 players. Most of the MP3 players were either dull grey rectangles with a few plastic silver buttons, or very flashy and very expensive. Common features of all MP3 players I came across were that a) they weren't very well designed with the buttons in all the wrong places b) they were built terribly, out of creaky, thin plastics with little hard plastic buttons or were built of machined metal that scratched when it was put down, and again had hard plastic buttons. I then came across the Sony NW-MS7 Memory Stick Walkman, which I'd seen in a few tech magazines and which I thought was only available as import from Japan. OK I thought, let's have a look. ...in the accompanying manual. For the most part anything above basic operation I had to discover myself. The sound quality of this unit is very good, even with the headphones that come with it. With a small tweak of the equalizer I've always been able to attain a good sound. My only criticism would be the volume level; on older, quieter tracks, when walking next to a busy road the unit just doesn't go loud enough. The unit I have is the 1gb version. How much music you get on here depends on the format and bitrate quality of your tracks. The unit will play MP3's as well as Sony's ALTRAC format. At bitrates varying from 192-320kbps MP3 I've been able to get about 20 albums worth on here. Sony reckon that if you use their ALTRAC format at 64kbps you can get up to 45 albums on here. I haven't used their format so I can't comment on the sound quality here... Read review

...Well I received this present from my wife this Christmas so am still playing with it at present. I have been looking for an MP3 player a while but the price of the large ones seems pointless (I had a little 256mb which was rubbish). My opinion of the I-Pods was poor and I was looking at Creative when I was given this. We have a lot of Sony products and I think the quality outways the cost. The walkman is very stylish and of good size to avoid getting damaged. I received a leather case for it and it seems good. I am not to happy about the headphones as they don't stay in my ears very well but will change them shortly. I went through the quick set up guide and loaded the software onto my Sony laptop. It does take a long time to download the software and the instructions do warn you about that. You also need a internet connection... Read review

...myself on Amazon.co.uk looking for something to the value of about £3 to take my order over the £25 mark in order to qualify for free delivery. I ended up buying a Sony D-NE511 Atrac / Mp3 Portable Discman for £60. Oops. Sony produce a range of these Atrac discmans and as you would expect the more you pay, the better the features. But I went for the D-NE511 model because it seemed to have everything I needed, despite being the cheapest in the range. Beside the player itself the box contains a power adapter, software cd, user guide, software instruction booklet and headphones. The units come in a few different colours if that sort of thing concerns you. You can choose from red, blue or the one I opted for, bog-standard silver (although that may not technically be the correct name for the colour!) The player itself is only slightly... Read review

...I have had this Sony MP3 player since Christmas and have been very impressed so far. The design is superb - the player fits easily in a shirt, jacket or trouser pocket or belt loop via the clip provided. The Sonicstage software is reasonably intuitive to use and you quickly get the hang of how to manage audio files and the transfer process. If you can be online while music processing then the feature which automatically locates and registers Artist, Album and Track Names is invaluable. No more typing everthything out longhand from the jewel case if you are copying from your own CDs! You need to choose the audio sample rate carefully, which will determine the number of tracks you can fit on the memory, but several hundred is average for 512Mb storage capacity.
