...After my iPod mini finally gave up after a year or so of misbehaving I was suffering going to the gym without an mp3. As my birthday was coming up I had started spreading the word (well, I had told bf) about what type of mp3 I would like just in case somebody would consider buying me one. Sony NW-A3000 Black Hard Drive audio player

Advantages: Sounds amazing, looks cool, clear screen, easy to use, feels good, good weight
Disadvantages: No support for ogg, connect software is useless, slight hesitation on menus, no remote

...The NW-A3000 is the first harddisk player I have seen which I actually like the appearance of. I looked at all the available colours in the shop before I chose and the black is definitely the most classy looking. I thought I would get a bit sick of the purple in a few months time, and I had trouble seeing the screen on the silver model, no such problems with this one though. In the box you get the player, a cable to connect it to your computer , an adapter to charge the player via the mains and a few leaflets. You also get a driver and software CD which contains the user manual. I was a little disappointed by this, I still like to recieve a real paper manual, especially for a product this expensive. ...I had my eyes on this player for a long time, and finally decided to treat myself and buy one. I was not disappointed! With the NW-A1000, Sony have managed to create a small, incredibly portable and stylish player, with great sound quality and superb battery life. The design is quite unique - when turned off, the intuitive screen blends into the player. The first issue on most people's minds with regards to this model is whether it is worth paying a little bit extra and buying the size up, with a 20GB hard drive. Another member of my family had this model, and I personally found it a little too large in dimensions. It didn't slip into my pocket easily, and was bulkier in my hands than my smaller 6GB model. Even though the machine is "only" 6GB, it can cope with more songs than a standard player due to the ATRAC compression...

I got it when it frist came out, eventhough hearing that the "connect player" software was really hard to follow and use I still got it anyway. First of all I found if I sync alot of music at the one time it goes slow so I learned by my own mistakes to just do a few at a time and regularly up-date the player which was easy enough for the player to handle. All you need to do is drag and drop I really didn't see the difficulty using the software I thought it was quite simple. Sony have now taken away this old method and produced a new way to sync your songs. This product over the years has had alot of competition from the ipod. ...The Sony Walkman NW-A1000 6Gb MP3 player is very user friendly. It has more than enough space to store most of the music you would need for the car or gym. As Sony were the original personal music centre creators, its kind of ironic that they have made a good, usable music player. The player itself is more blue in colour rather than violet (although the earphones definately look violet - I've replaced them for other Sony earphones) You need Sonic stage software rather than the 'Connect' software that it comes with, this can sometimes struggle to convert MP3s onto the player which is a pain. It means that on occasion, because the mp3 format isn't recognised (God Knows Why?) you need to burn the files onto a CD, then import the CD onto the music library for placing onto the MP3 Player. I've not had any issues with the device...

...overall this is a quality machine and the device itself outweighs the odd computer glitch. The software updates get downloaded automatically anyway, so I'm sure Sony are working to bring it up to scratch. Buy the NW-A3000 and enjoy....
