Playstation 2 & Remote Control Review

Advantages: Price, Games, Graphics, DVD,
Disadvantages: Design(?)

...forgiven for thinking you were watching a very good DVD player doing all the work for you and the added control of the remote also lends itself toward the impression of a proper stand-alone system. Everything about the setup is what you would expect from a DVD player. The only gripe here is that when setting the PS2 to down-convert an anamorphic image to letterbox for a standard 4:3 television, the down-conversion introduces some stair stepping and jaggies known as aliasing. With most other Sony DVD players, this 'characteristic' is not present. This is yet another excuse for you to buy that widescreen TV you have always wanted. Overall At its release, the PS2 had a hefty £300 price point attached to it (I paid that much!!), putting it into the reach of only the true die-hard gaming junkies. Sony Playstation 2 - What More Can You Ask For? :P

Advantages: Sleek; lots of good games; DVD movie playable - good value for money :-)
Disadvantages: Still waiting for hard drive peripheral; Xbox's graphic capabilites are superior; only two controller ports, compared to the higher rated Xbox. Plus the games are quite costly...

The conrols: The controller is basically exactly the same as the orriginal controller to the Sony Playstation, except for the controller is painted black and the buttons are configured better and more in place for easier usage. Most PS2 games require ANALOG mode, so it could be tricky using your regular PS1 controller in your PS2! hehe! I am also giving the controller rating a 8/10 Gaming capabilities: 128 Bits...

PS/2 Slimline a real tonic from Sony

Advantages: small and sexy
Disadvantages: is it a fragile kitten

...I should start by saying that I am not part of the PlayStation generation, I'm 44 and my first introduction to gaming outside of arcades was awarded to me as the result of an on line competition when I won a good old PSOne (yes, people do win those draws), that was about 7 or 8 years ago I guess. About 5 years ago I upgraded to the original PS/2 and have enjoyed many late nights / early mornings gaming on that till about 8 months ago when it gave up the ghost. With the launch of PS/3 'imminent' I thought I could wait for that - but Oh No it gets delayed and delayed again and my patience runs out.
