Sony Playstation 3 (PS3)
Advantages: Best Entertainment System Avaliable, Region free games only
Disadvantages: 4GB file limitation External Storage, Cant read NTFS
...I am going to be reviewing possibly one of the biggest console in the market currently the PS3. Firstly I have one and it is great, now let's take a look at it in detail:
LAUNCH
November 11, 2006: This is when it debut in Japan
November 17, 2006: It released in North America
March 23, 2007: Finally was released in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand.
The UK launch was a shock for who went to it, as it was announced that everyone in the queue would receive a 46" Sony Bravia TV worth £2000.
The launches did not turn out great for Sony as initial figures were low, here are the figures below:
Worldwide: 5.59 Million - Japan 1,341,000 - North America 2,105,500 - Other 1,300,000
The launch was initially supposed to be as follows:
November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America...

Sony Playstation 3 (PS3)
Advantages: HD capable, Blu-Ray player, variety of games, no extra cost online gaming.
Disadvantages: Relatively large console, initial cost of the console.
...For people looking to buy a next generation console then the PS3 does not disapoint.
With HD technology and easy to access, free (no charge ontop of your usual internet fee) online gaming it makes the most of the latest technology.
A major plus for the PS3 over the X-box 360 is the fact that it has a Blu-Ray player built in.
The vast choice of games available in all different genres make this console suitable for any user. From sports titles like FIFA to shoot-em up's like Call of Duty, to Platforms/Adventure in Assasains Creed to Racing games like Burnout; there a top titles for anyone to enjoy.
With the wireless 'Sixaxis' controllers allowing freedom of movement and a long battery life it allows for ease of use. The PS3 also comes with a USB charger for the controller which again allows ease of use in that you can...

PS3 slim
Advantages: Blu-ray, free online, nice extras like vidzone & iplayer. Almost silent operation
Disadvantages: Rubbish controller, still expensive, online nowhere near as good as xbox live
...nothing on the system excited me that I couldn't already get for my 360! The exceptions to this rule being Killzone 2 & Resistance. In fairness, the PS3 hasn't been out as long as the 360, so I'm guessing the situation will improve as time progresses.
Extras-Some nice ideas here from Sony, Vidzone isn't bad, altho the selection is a bit limited, movie trailers can be downloaded in 1080P(the 360 just gives a streamed SD trailer) but not full audio. Built in i-player is nifty altho not much use to me, as I'm on cable which gives me it in normal tv quality, but I guess it'll work for sky/freeview people out there. Yeah, they threw in a browser, but don't waste your time, fire up your PC & get what you are doing a lot faster, they have made a decent effort to work it, but for me, it needs a zoom(my apologies if there is one & I've missed it) as I...

Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) & XBOX 360
Advantages: Excellent to use and play with...
Disadvantages: The price..
...There has been so much arguments over which console is better the PS3 or the XBOX 360. I looked into which console has what features and their way of communicating to the audience. Also which console has the better online game play and their prices. First I?ll be explaining the functions and features of the SONY PLAYSTATION 3 and then the functions and features of the XBOX 360.
SONY PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3)
There is more then one version of the PS3 in the UK. They vary from £300 to £399, some contain a 40GB hard drive and others go to 60 or even 80GB and can connect with or without wires to the internet for online game play. PLAYSTATION® Network is free and enables you to play online game play for free and surf the internet without having a computer. The consol has USB ports for connecting external devices such as cameras, MP3 players...

Sony PS3 Got to be the best console
Advantages: Amazing game play & amazing blue ray dvd player
Disadvantages: You become a PS3 widow if you buy one for your partner
...After a lot of thinking I finally decided to purchase a PS3 of my other half birthday, he used to play on his PS2 all the time but was getting to the stage where getting any good new games was a nightmare.
Needless to say this games console does not dissappoint, other members of my family have the Wii & Xbox personally I think the games console leaves them far behind.
Im not one for going on about the spec of a machine (dont know enough about that side of it) so ill just tell you what I think of the console itself.
The gameplay which is what most people purchase this item for is amazing, I bought him Medal Of Honour Airborne to go with this & its so lifelike its untrue & its def worth purchasing a hi def cable for it (usually about £10), this makes the games even more spetacular.
You can also connect the playstation to the internet...

playstation 3 slim: the facts!
Advantages: very powerful, multifunctional console
Disadvantages: No real price cut
...The PS3 Slim is the latest PlayStation 3 games console, but it is essentially the same console as before, but with slimmed down components and a new, smaller body. The key improvements in the PS3 Slim are the 120GB hard drive, up from 40GB, 60GB and 80gb in previous UK versions and making it slimmer has made it 36 per cent lighter, 33 per cent smaller and it consumes at least 34 per cent less power (for you know worry about you electricity bills).
The PS3 Slim represents a new console just in time for x-mas, one that could start to make sony some profit because up to this is due to the vast majority of PS3 sold so far (around 24 million of them) have been sold at a loss. However, new manufacturing procedures have changed this recently, and a redesigned 45nm Cell processor along with other similarly small and power efficient components...

Sony Playstation 3
Advantages: Excellent gaming and user interface, incorporated Blu-Ray and DVD Player, 60Gb Hard Drive.
Disadvantages: Few 'top title' release games, size of console, appears very expensive.
...The Sony Playstation 3 has been on the market for over a month now and is slowly beginning to realise its potential. The graphical changes have been vast from that of the PS2, with the HD ready games making it a whole new gaming experience.
Whats more, the wireless controllers allow for extra freedom and comfort whilst playing, with the wireless range being so huge that you can even control games from another room (yet the ability to see through walls remains absent!).
The integrated "PS Button" allows for complete user control whilst gaming, allowing for access to the menu at the same time as gaming, making it easy to sign onto the Playstation online network. The 'Sixaxis' controllers also allow for a more real gaming experience, tilting and moving the control as part of games. Though not on par to the Nintendo Wii on this aspect, it...

Playstation 3 Great Product
Advantages: Useful, Multimedia Functions, Entertaining, Internet
Disadvantages: Does have the odd problems mostly HDMI issues.
...The Sony Playstation 3 is a great console, due to the fact it has alot exciting new features from the previous sucessors. One of the main reasons the PS3 has done well in the war against other consoles is that the games available on the this platform are much vast. The also have a quite alot of games which are exlusive to PS3. Some buyers only buy the ps3 because a certain game is availiable on this platform. Thats one of the main purposes i purchased the ps3 because i liked previous games which were on the previous console.
I have played all rival consoles and compared to the xbox i would have to say the graphics look better on the PS3. I tested playing the same game on HDTV at 1080p even though the game was out putting at 720p. The contrast of colours and the detail stood out more on the PS3.
The XMB( Xross Media Bar) developed...

PS3, for you and me?
Advantages: Stylish, good games available + lots more on the way, blu ray
Disadvantages: No HD cable in the box, no rumble, limited BC
...The PlayStation 3 is Sonys third generation of home consoles. After the stellar performance of the PlayStation 2 and launch of its two rivals the Wii and Xbox 360 the PS3 has a tough act to follow. Sony are clearly not worried as according to their marketing the PS3 is a "supercomputer" and is capable of "4D" graphics, with such bold claims I had to pick one up for myself and see if it was true!
Unboxing
The first thing you will notice about the PlayStation 3 box is that it's huge! The Xbox 360 had a rather large box but this is incredible being about 1.5x as big. The box design itself is worth a mention as it is pretty neat and the front has a picture of the console floating with the wireless sixaxis controller on a black and red background. On the bottom left hand side you will see the model you have purchased which will be either...

To PS3 or not to PS3?
Advantages: An amazing machine, expandable, some great features
Disadvantages: Expensive (but for a reason), almost internet reliant, no browser security
...the PS3 then you'd see where all that weight comes from. As well as the Cell processor and the RSX GPU, it's got 256Mb of system RAM and 256Mb of graphics VRAM. Add to this your wi-fi functionality, the bluetooth functionality, the 40Gb hard drive and the Blu-Ray player, and it's easy to understand why it's pretty heavy. Yes, it's got the specs of a really good system, but it doesn't mean it is.
Upon starting to use the system, the first thing you'll notice is the fact that the controller is now wireless. It looks pretty much the same apart from a row of red LEDs at the top which let you know which controller number you are (you can have up to 7) and the PS button in the middle (kind of like a remote control power button for your PS3) and the lack of cable. This is where the PS3 shines through, and can also fail miserably. Sony have...
