An attractive unit that does everything I needed
Review of Sony Rdrhxd 560 by
Suzanne57
Advantages: Easy to set-up - very useful features
Disadvantages: Quite a slow response to commands - confusing instruction book
...The choice of DVD recorders and all their different functions is truely bewildering - where do you start? I had a list of what i was looking for.
MY WANT LIST
DVD recorder that had a hard drive.
Reliable brand.
Competitive price.
Ability to record to DVD discs and transfer hard drive recordings to discs.
All other possible features were either useful extras or something I would never use.
SONY FEATURES I FIND MOST USEFUL -
It has all the features on my "Want List" plus lots of other goodies that I try to learn about as I go along, or simply stumble across. For example it has:
FREEVIEW
CHASING PLAYBACK - you can start watching a programme that it is still recording.
EASE OF USE -
Like any sophisticated piece of new technology the instruction book...

Sony RDR-HXD870 - great picture performance
Review of Sony RDR-HXD 870 by
SvenP
Advantages: Picture quality, series recording, connectivity, editing features
Disadvantages: Software issues, Freeview EPG takes time to populate
...Sony RDR-HXD870S
We've used the Sony since summer '07 as our sole Freeview box and as a way of archiving TV series and films recorded via our Sky+ system. The only difference between the 870S and the 870B illustrated above is colour - the 870S is silver (to match the rest of our AV kit).
I'll start with the bad points, of which the Sony has 2 major ones:
1. The Freeview Guide can take a very long time to populate. If you are used the the Sky guide, or other Freeview boxes for that matter, it can be a pain. Delays of over 2 minutes are not uncommon even when looking at the same day listings. We are running the 870 from a newly installed digital aerial, aligned and tested by a professional, and the 870 itself says the signal is perfect, so this is not the cause.
2. The originally supplied software that deals...

Ready, Steady...RECORD....
Review of Sony RDR-HXD1065 by
shaheena
Advantages: So many feature in one
Disadvantages: Expensive
...Hi everyone, How are you all?. I hope you all find my review enjoyable and helpful to read. Today I'm writing a review about this new fantastic piece of technology. Its the Sony RDR-HXD1065. I have one at home and i really love it.
I know its quite pricey, but i was saving for a long time to buy one, and if you know me, you will know that I'm a telly addict. I'm out most of the time, and because of that, i miss my favorite programmes so i decided to get one. I purchased my one from the Sony Centre at £530.99.
After doing a lot of shop hunting and researching i decided to get the
Sony RDR-HXD1065. I just love it
Firstly i would like to tell you the reasons why i love this product and why i highly recommend it.
What is the Sony RDR-HXSony?
Sony RDR-HXD1065 is a DVD recorder with 250GB hard disk drive for up to 387 hours of TV...

User review of Sony RDR-HXD 710
Review of Sony RDR-HXD710 by
Jay-S
Advantages: Multiple recording settings, record tv & watch DVD simultaneously
Disadvantages: when recording cannot switch channels
...I purchased one of these recorders from my local sony centre a few months ago and I have not been dissapointed, well not by much.
The device is relatively simple to use in its basic functions, allthough I have yet to try the more compex features. Its 160GB capacity hard drive is ample for storage as there are various levels of recording compression you can use - I have several full length movies and multiple TV shows recorded at the standard setting and I'm only at around 30-40% capacity. The built in Free-view decoder eliminates the need for a separate box and multiple scart cables.
The recorder supports several mainstream disc formats, although I have been unsuccesful in playing discs recorded on PC's - possibly due to file formats rather than disc types. All of the main surround sound types are supported such as Dolby Digital...

Review of Sony RDR-HXD970 by
Jemma_C
Advantages: pretty much does everything it says on the tin plus a bit more.
Disadvantages: only downside is lack of dual digital tuners
...i was 22 recently and was bought this as a birthday pressie (love you mwah!). It cost £257.94 from 247electrical.co.uk. we had the previous model (RDRHXD860S) but just as alot of other reviews say ours broke down too.
This machine seems to be far superior to the previous model and is far more intuitive to use. In operation it runs almost silently and performs at a much high speed (the 860s had a noisy fan and always had a slight delay before responding to each command).
All recording has been performed faultlessly and the ability to jump advert breaks at the touch of a single button is great. The 250GB hard disk is very rapid in it's operation and provides huge storage potential.
This recorder from Sony employs Bravia Theatre and Theatre Sync technology to give you high definition images via 1080p upscaling on all your DVDs. Able...

Affordable Quality Multi-Format Drive.
Review of Sony RDR-HXD560S by
bananamanuk
Advantages: Design, Ease of Use, Hard Disc and DVD recording, Digital Tuner
Disadvantages: Not easy to see recording light, slow startup
...SUMMARY
I bought this DVD recorder to replace my previous Phillips one which seemed to die just outside of the warranty period. The recorder is slim, relatively stylish with it's silver and black finish, easy to setup and of typically high Sony build standards. There is a plethora of inputs and output connections, and the recorder has the ability to record to it's internal Hard Drive or to DVD disc. The recorder also has a digital tuner which allows it to pick up terrestrial digital channels on Freeview. In all I think this offers excellent value for money vs quality, there are many cheaper alternatives, but I have had many Sony products and always feel that paying a little more for them is worth it in the long run. This is not a multi-region drive.
CONNECTIONS
This machine has outputs and the back and a range of inputs at the front...
