Sony VAIO PCG- FX 405
Advantages: Good Looking, Sleek, Fast.
Disadvantages: Poor Battery life, Almost impossible to upgrade.
...things that put me off these were
1. THE PRICE as they seemed to be about 50% more expensive than the PC equivalents.
2. THE LAYOUT Apple Macintosh computers have a different keyboard layout as well as a different Operating System (i.e. they do not use windows).
After I expressed my above concerns and expressed what I would be using the laptop for, I was directed to both the Sony and Samsung range.
After having a "test drive" on both machines (both similar in specifications and price) I came down in favour of the SONY PX 405 because as well as having the sharper and brighter TFT screen, it also had a nicer feel about it whilst navigating around the desktop and the actual design of the laptop was nicer too.
So I took it home and first thing i did was turn it on and find out what it actually does, played a DVD, recorded a CD...

Sony Vaio PCG-FX401
Advantages: Great system, for the price
Disadvantages: Poor Battery life and customer care
...on ME.
The sony-vaio support website is fairly useful, but not always working, but the email service is excellent and very prompt. The telephone support however it appauling, at 50p a minute, it is open only mon-fri 9am-5pm, which is no use to me, as I have to be at work. But I managed to get some time, and was on the phone, just waiting for 3 hours, when someone answered and said "we are sorry, but the offices are now closed, if you have been waiting for a long time, please call back tommorrow" - terrible!
I finally managed to get through, and I was told I would need to be transfered to another support personal, as they were new, then I was sent to tech support and then back around again - again, useless.
Overall, I am impressed with the laptop. I have had a few problems with it, that were solved by re-installing windows. Non-Sony...

Sony Vaio the way to go!
Advantages: Sharp screen image, high overall performance, great looks
Disadvantages: Continuous running of the fan
...I have had my Sony Vaio GRT816S for 3 months now and I thought that it is was high time I wrote a review about this marvellous notebook. Founded in 1946 Sony started out as a small company specialising in transistors radios, over the years their influence in the electronics market has grown and today they are probably the worlds most recognisable brand of electronic goods. In 1998 Sony launched their Vaio range of notebooks and these too have become the must have name in the notebook market.
The GRT816S is the top of the range model from Sony?s GRT800 range. As with most of the Sony Vaio notebooks it has a sleek and sharp looking design intended to lure looks conscious buyers like myself. It has dimensions of (WxDxH) 35.7 cm x 30 cm x 4.5 cm which is slightly bigger than your average notebook but not a major concern. It comes in...

The Sony Vaio N505x
Advantages: Light, looks great, and it's cheap
Disadvantages: Outdated, low specs, poor battery performance.
...Laptops are in high demand by students, professionals and home users. The specifications available today are truly amazing, but they can carry a high price tag.
The Sony Vaio PCG-N505X is a stylish compact laptop launched in 1998. It weighs a mere 1.2 kg, with a 10.4" TFT screen.
<<<<So how does it look?>>>>
With dimensions of 25.9 cm x 20.8 cm x 2.2 cm the laptop looks sublime.
The laptop casing is silver with a blue battery department at the back of the laptop (where the lid folds).
There are several slots on the left hand side of the device, which include; a memory slot, AC adapter, USB (just the one port), microphone and headphones. The other side of the laptop comprises of the: Power switch (which is a slide button), a reset button - which you press in and finally there is a slot to plug in your external...

Sony VAIO that fails to impress
Advantages: Good video encoding, software extras, has "built-in" anti-theft mechanism
Disadvantages: Average in almost everything. Worse everywhere else.
...You've ever wondered why alot of people don't buy laptops and stick with their massively chunky desktop computers, with it's loud humming, power slurping and heat generating. Well I could think of a few reasons but here is a good example.
Don't get me wrong, this budget £850 (why it is classified as budget is beyond me) Sony VAIO laptop is a fairly decent laptop, it's just very average at everything it does. The Intel Celeron 2.8GHz processor and the DDR 512MB of RAM make it sounds rather zippy, but in fact it's performance is only just adequate for office applications, gaming is not recommended. The graphics chip is the ATI RADEON IGP (integrated) that uses 64MB of the 512MB RAM as it's memory. You would think that the RADEON graphics would give the laptop a gaming edge but try running a Direct X 8 game and it crawls like a diseased...

Sony Vaio N505X - Pleasantly Surprised!
Advantages: Ultra-portable, Magnesium alloy casing, Runs XP no problem!, cost just £90!
Disadvantages: Battery life is about 1 hour, Low spec by today's standards
...I'm a big fan of electrical gadgets and was browsing ebay when I came across a Sony Vaio N505X Ultra-Portable notebook going cheap - I paid just £90 for mine which was in pristine condition and included the official Vaio external CD-Rom drive, external floppy drive, port replicator, power supply, upgraded to 128MB of ram and upgraded 30GB hard drive. I already have a perfectly adequate desktop computer but thought it would be nice to make more use of my wireless router.
I personally think that the majority of laptops are rather bulky, the N505X, however, is one of the smallest laptops I have ever seen - its only 22mm thick and weighs around 1Kg! This product first hit the shelves about 8 years ago and even now in 2007 it doesn't look all that dated due to its size and clever styling with the large Vaio logo embossed on the lid...

Sony Vaio FX-902
Advantages: Cheap, Stylish
Disadvantages: Bulky
...Sony have so many laptops out, and with so much choice its so hard to decide which laptop is right for you. The FX-902 was the first laptop i ever bought, and believe me it wasnt easy. I scoured the net for months searching for a laptop that suited my needs, i didnt want something too fancy, or too expensive, but one day it hit me. I give you the Sony Vaio FX-902.
The FX-902 is the latest edition in the alread popular FX series of laptops, sporting great looks, excellent specs, for an affordable price. With business intended it makes an excellent laptop for any business user or for any entry level laptop user such as myself.
The difference between the FX-905 and the FX-902 is the monitor. The 902 has a smaller 14.1" monitor compared to the 905's 15". The difference isnt vast but it makes a hell of a difference if your going to be...

Sony PCG F801a
Advantages: Can be found cheap second hand.
Disadvantages: Outdated now..
...This laptop series is now a few years old, and it shows. I bought one of these in 2000, at the time it cost me £800 brand new. I have just sold it for £200, not bad after 4 years i suppose.
The machine, as you expect from SONY worked very well indeed, the operating system was windows ME, which has its flaws, but all in all runs quite smoothly. I didn't encounter too many lock ups with the system, and only when i started to overload the hard drive did it go wrong.
I solved this by buying the floppy drive, this was an extra and i feel it should have been installed and sold with the laptop in the first place. The hard drive is only 6gbs and can quickly be filled, thus slowing the machine down.
You get lots of imaging software from sony pre-installed, all of it designed for use with sony digital cameras. You will need to provide...

My Sony VAIO
Advantages: Quality Looking, Very Stylish, Great Speed!
Disadvantages: -
...Product: 15.4" screen Laptop
Make: Sony, VAIO
Features: XP, Service pack 2
Price: Varied
This Sony VAIO Laptop is stylish, powerful, fast active, and easy to use, this laptop is exactly like the one I own. Mine is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with service packed 2, it has a 15.4" WXGA (1280x800) X-black LCD flat screen, and runs on 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (533 MHz). Even though, it's Windows XP, Its Vista capable as well; some of them I've seen are though. I can always rely on the Sony make; to me it has always been a top brand. I love the Intel Celeron M Processor 390; the processing speed is 1.70 GHz, which is the ideal speed for me. The hard disk drive is 80GB, which is quite suitable for the size. The Intel Graphics feature Media Accelerator 900 and comes with 128MB max, the graphics are outstandingly great, this is...
