...I bought my Sony Digital Video Camcorder (DCR-TR7000) as a new millennium present to myself to take to London and get some shots from the top of the Millennium Wheel. All right it was about 10 months late because the Wheel wasn't operating for several months if I remember correctly. When we booked it, I did not fancy taking my SVHS Panasonic Camcorder because a), it was too big and heavy to hump around London and b), because it had let me down several times and couldn't be relied upon. I bought the Sony in Comet's on an end-of-line deal reduced to just under £400 from around £600 at the time. The next newest model had and adjustable LCD screen and the TR7000 didn't. ...been recorded straight from the cinema. The quality and sound will be extremely poor and the picture will appear very dark. Your best bet when downloading movies is try and hold on until they come out on DVD in at least one country. That way movies can be ripped straight from the DVD meaning you can get your hands on some good quality recording. Look for titles with something like DVDRIP. There is lots of software out there that will convert your files and then automatically transfer them to your PSP. If your running Windows, use a program called PSP Video 9, its all in English and has a very easy interface to understand. Another English program for Windows is one called 3PG Converter. This piece of software looks a lot cheaper and was originally created for the Japanese market but with the latest version the language can be set to English...

Sony TCM-200DV Dictaphone

Advantages: Takes regular sized audio cassettes, double-time recording, inexpensive model
Disadvantages: Needs to be used close to sound-source, a bit bulky for some tastes

...I always wanted a dictaphone as a child. Largely, I admit, for slightly dubious reasons (i.e. I wanted to plant it in my big sister's bedroom and find out if she was talking about me.) Many years on, as a student, I finally received one as a birthday gift so that I could record important lectures. This certainly did come in handy during those classes that, however hard I tried to stay alert, had me head down and drooling on the desk within minutes. The Sony TCM-200DV Cassette-Corder (or 'dictaphone' to you and me) is a fairly basic model compared to some products on the market - but it does what it says on the tin and it does it to a perfectly acceptable standard. My overall verdict of this console is that it really is a gem to behold and play. Looking much better and sexier than its blocky predecessor it commands you to play it and give it the attention it deserves. With the release of the launch titles and the innovative controllers, Sony are showing exactly why they should rule the roost when it comes to the video-game market. But the hefty price-tag on the console and the games themselves means that a lot of people will be put off from owning a console that plays like a dream. Sony HDD+DVD recorder, 1080p upscaling.

Advantages: Perfect recordings in SD mode, even better in HQ mode. Goodlooking unit.
Disadvantages: Only one digital tuner, can't watch one channel whilst recording another

...Off air DVB-T recordings in SD are totally indiscernable from the original broadcast quality, that alone is very impressive, but even more so is that HQ mode, which records at a staggering 15mps seems to actually *improve" over the broadcast quality! And it is HQ mode recordings when being upscaled via HDMI (To a 40" panny 1080p) that it really is impressive, No smearing, true deep colours etc. But HQ mode cannot be burned to DVD, HQ recording mode is only available to the HDD. DVD playback is excellent. Minus points: No USB/network capabilities. CD playback is good but bass light. The default setting output is S-Video, had to rummage around menu to activate full RGB SCART, and Component. An excellent recorder, but sonics slightly lacking richness. 9/10...

...I decided that it was time to purchase a DVD Recorder for the first time. (don't buy videos anymore - DVD's are just as cheap). After speaking to friends and scouring the internet the main features I wanted were HDD (Hard Disc Drive) of at least 80GB. Even in Standard Recording Mode (for which you wont notice any real difference from HQ (High Quality) you get 26 Hours of recording. In SLP Mode you have 106 Hours which is similar to Video (VHS) Recording. It is easy to Record from Video onto either DVD or HDD (after which you can then Edit). For Recording from your Digital Camcorder I stronly suggest your purchase an I-Link Cable (Sony sell these for £19.99) these can be easily purchased from E-Bay etc. One of the excellent features of this DVD Recorders is that it comes with VideoPlus. Great recorder for simpletons like me

Advantages: Easy to use. Recordings automatically start at the right time.
Disadvantages: Can't watch one channel and record another.
