...I have owned this walkman model since Jan08 and think it is fantastic. I find it hard to believe that ipod out-sell sony to such an extent when sony are delivering such good walkmans. To begin with, the sony walkmans have a far superior sound capability. With such features as DSEE sound enhancement, "clear stereo," VTP surround and the dynamic normaliser available to enhance the all round quality of the tracks you listen to, ipod cannot compare. Also, the screen on the walkman has a crystal clear resolution. I would go as far to say that combined with the sound quality, I could become absorbed in a movie whilst watching it on the walkman - provided there were no glaring distractions! Advantages: Great sound quality and video playback with adequete compatibility.
Disadvantages: Timevault shuffle mode is unnescecary as is picture playback.

...I recently purchased this mp3 player from dixons and I was amazed by how good it is. The interface is unclutered and very easy to navigate. It has the equivalent screen of an ipod nano.(320X240 2.2in) The video playback is a stunning 30 f.p.s. and is easy to watch(MP4 supported). However as with most players it struggles for brightness in direct sunlight. The picture display function is adequate but I don't bother with it, its easier to use a phone for that. The most important feature however is music, the quality is excellent at the standard 128kbps mp3. It has a wider range of compatibility than the ipod range including wma, mp3, AAC, and WMP. Advantages: Excellent player and sound quality

...I chose this player because I trusted Sony and needed a player that had Solid state (flash) storage, but played videos. at the time of purchase, it seemed like the best option. I would buy it again today. The player interface is incredibly easy to use; the screen is bright, sharp and vivid; and the bundled headphones give magnificent sound quality. Sony have been criticized over their Sonic Stage software that is used for music transfer. I admit that it can be slightly awkward and slow, but generally it does the job well. My only complaint with the player itself is that the headphones have a very short lead, Sony include an extender, but it is easy to loose and it would be far better to have bundled a set of earphones with a longer cable. Overall, definitely worth it....

For those of you who, like me, are not very technologically minded this is a measure of storage capacity. The more gigabytes the player has, the more music and/or videos you will be able to store on it. 2 GBs will enable you to fit up to 1600 tracks on it or up to 7 hours worth of video files. This is about half of what I had previously been able to keep on my iPod something which worried me a bit at first. However, I have found that 1600 tracks is quite sufficient for me, I can stick all my favourite music on there and still have space left over for any new music I might want to add in the future. Advantages: High Quality, Equalizer, Easy to use, Slim Design, Best free Headphones around

I have also been able to put my music onto the Sony Walkman NWZ-A816 from a Windows 2000 Professional Laptop with Service Pack 4. It treats is like a Jumpdrive and you just take your music from your hard drive and copy paste. Remember not to unplug the USB Wire at any time when uploading. Sony Walkman 16 GB: Great media player, but not without faults...

Advantages: Large 16GB capacity, easy to use interface, easy to transfer music/pictures, superb sound quality.
Disadvantages: Incompatibility with many video formats and competitor mains/USB recharger adaptors

However, an important fact I feel you should be aware of is the Players' incompatibility with recharger mains/USB adaptors not specifically designed for the player by Sony. I tried using a cheap competitor adaptor which resulted in my computer failing to recognise the player once connected (meaning I couldn't transfer any more music) which meant I had to get a replacement (which was thankfully provided free of charge). "Summary" The Sony Walkman NWZ-A829 is an audio player with a great host of features, superb sound quality and an easy to use user interface. It does have a few negative aspects and is expensive.
