Sony's new games console the Playstation 3 or more commonly known as the PS3 was finally released across the European Union and Australia as well as the other PAL region 2 compatible countries on Friday 23rd March. With up to 300,000 units available at launch it was unlikely that the PS3, which had already been available in Japan and US from November last year, was going to be an overnight sell out. Even now as I write this review they are still available in the stores. Disappointed ebay sellers, who had hoped to make a bit of profit from pre-order sales riding on the launches of Microsoft's Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PSP, are well and truly kicking themselves now...

Games Console and Home Entertainment in one.

Advantages: Excellent Graphics, Ample Memory, Free online gaming, Blue - Ray excellent!!!
Disadvantages: Cost a bit(Worth every penny in my opinion)

Not Just A Games Console; A Feature Packed Entertainment Thingy!

Advantages: Good looking, Entertaining, Easy to use, lots of features.
Disadvantages: on the expensive side, not as many 'exclusive' games as other consoles

...Almost two years ago Sony brought out two more versions of the PS3 because simply they weren't selling enough of the 80GB version, so out came the 40GB and 60GB; two consoles cheaper than the first model with lots of useless features removed. Some time later and this has done Sony no good at all, the PS3 is still the worst selling console. And I have no idea why.... Gaming - If you have a HD TV I would suggest you buy a HDMI cable because the console is not supplied with one and having one just takes the gaming experience to a whole new level. The Games collection may not be as big as that of the Xbox 360 but it has all the major titles and some okay exclusives like 'Metal Gear Solid 4'. Safer calling in the car

Advantages: Easy to set up and use, small unintrusive unit
Disadvantages: No caller ID screen

...and you can hear the caller as loudly as you want to with an simple adjustment. The reception for the caller is good, I have been told that they can tell I am in the car but my voice is crystal clear - it has Digital Noise Cancellation (DSP). Talk time is good at 15 hours and you can make calls via the voice calling function on your mobile phone handset. It's also worth noting that you can connect up to 5 phones at a time (there is a colour indicator to tell which which phone a call is coming through on) and they obviously don't need to be Sony Ericsson (any bluetooth enabled handset should be compatible). The unit could also be used at you desk / at home as it is very small and sits well on a flat surface. Included in the box was a mains and car charger so it's easy to keep charge topped up. Advantages: stunning graphics, lots of great features
Disadvantages: not all games run at 1080p, no backwards compatibility on the 80GB model

...I recently purchased a Playstation 3 80GB and I have to say I have never been so excited about a games console this much since I purchased a Playstation 2 about 6-7 years ago. I took it out of the box and plugged it in to my 40 inch Sony Bravia HD tv and started the set up. Sony have made the set up very easy and it is much like the set up process on a PSP. As soon as I knew it I was all set up and ready and I loved that they used the same layout on the Playstation 3 as they have on the PSP becuse it is just so easy to navigate through settings, pictures, music, internet and other features. The first thing I noticed when I plugged in a game (uncharted: drakes fortune) I noticed the vast attention to detail that is included, however not all games look as good as others. Advantages: Almost as good as a PC
Disadvantages: Quite a few features still need adding

It's handy when I am playing poker as the vibration informs me as to when it is my turn to play. Bluetooth It apparently uses bluetooth technology to achieve this wireless connectivity. This means that you can also pair or configure bluetooth keyboards, mice and headsets with your playstation. Alternatively, if you wish, you could just use wired USB keyboards and mice but this again means you have to sit close to the TV. The built-in bluetooth technology would be much better if it worked with mobile phones or other exotic devices. You are unable to establish a connection with a mobile phone for the purposes of uploading media files. An oversight by Sony? I don't know if they have any plans to enable...

In the car on the plane on a bus its there

Advantages: Portable and easy to understand
Disadvantages: The stick can be easily lost

...for the touch sreen, it is not that sharp but it must be kept away from childrens eyes and if the end is chewn then it will not stay in its slot and will probably get lost so be aware of that. But in my view it is very entertaining and can be brought on holiday for the plane or a car journey perhaps? But what ever it needs to be used for it is there and if it has low battery power you can buy a car charger that slots in to cigarrette lighters in cars.
