Escape with Ava Gardner and Sophia Loren!

Advantages: Great cast, good disaster film, some good special effects
Disadvantages: Not the best film ever

...I love escaping into the world of films. I love many kinds of films, but two of my favourites are disaster movies (having been brought up by a Dad who loves The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno) and films starring classic actresses. I love Jean Harlow, Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood and the like. So imagine by glee when I heard of a disaster movie starring two screen legends ? Sophia Loren and Ava Gardner! The Cassandra Crossing was also nice and cheap ? just £2.98 from Amazon ? so how could I resist?! The plot is typically dramatic, of course. A man has been exposed to the plague virus and boards a train from Stockholm to Geneva. The authorities need to prevent the plague spreading, so they seal the train full of 1000 passengers and re-route it to a bridge called the Cassandra Crossing. However, the bridge is perilously...

My saint bernard Sophia

Advantages: loving gentle protective always eager to please loyal and obedient
Disadvantages: expensive to feed, can have alot of health problems, a very large dog that needs alot of space

A breath of boredom

Advantages: Maurice Chevalier's cheeky smile
Disadvantages: Boring and very poor and not worth the time unless you like Barbara Cartland books!

...This is one hell of a boring film with no real plot and doesn't deserve to have been made let alone issued. Sophia Loren and Maurice Chevalier are too good for this film and could have done with a far better script. Basically it starts with Sophia Loren living in exile and meeting an american man who causes her to fall off her horse as he tears around Austria in his motor car. He falls in love with her and she returns to Vienna from exile after receiving a pardon for her indiscretions, but she doesn't let the american know who she really is. He travels to Vienna to meet with her father not knowing that that is who he is, he then finds out Sophia is to be engaged to a Russian prince. Advantages: A well crafted story set against a backdrop of the 2nd World War

My second favourite Agatha Christie ever...

Advantages: Keeps you intrigued until the end. Surprising ending, quite takes your breath away.
Disadvantages: Just that the ending is so good, you can't forget it, so re-reading means it has to be done knowing the ending.

Advantages: an enjoyable plot and convincing dialogue well executed, good photography and direction.
