Whether they are trying to imply that other brands are ineffective is anyone?s guess, but this wasn?t my main reason for buying the packet in the first place. The reason was, quite simply, that they were on a ?Buy One Get One Free? offer in Boots and also that Strepsils are a brand that I have been familiar with for a long time. Sore Throat....

Advantages: Pleasant taste
Disadvantages: Pricey, short lasting relief

...I have a sore throat at present and sitting in front of me is a box of blackcurrant strepsils, apparently including vitamin c too! Well, they taste good, well, pleasant anyway. Its easy on the tongue and dissolves nicely in the mouth a bit quicker than a boiled sweet would, it doesnt leave a horrible aftertaste or any kind of residue. So far, so good. Now, they certainly won't cure your sore throat, they never claim to do that or pretend to be a cure, they to claim to offer relief from sore throats. Now, in my experience, what they actually do is numb the throat for about 15 minutes, the effect also tends to wear off if you drink a hot drink! This numbness, despite giving relief from the pain, doesnt last long enough (afterall, these lozenges were not cheap). They are good if you just want a bit of relief and maybe they would...

...I'm the kind of person who prefers to stop a cold in its tracks with echinacea, garlic and Vitamin C rather than taking over-the-counter medication to alleviate symptoms. But sometimes the cold virus is stronger than the natural preventatives, and my colds - rare though they are - seem to come with a standard sore throat and dry cough. It was while I was in the throes of one of these colds that a relative recommended I try Ricola herbal lozenges. I'd never found cough sweets to be of any use, but the cough was dry and painful, so I decided to try them out. There seem to be several varieties of these lozenges. Some of them are sugar-free but contain artificial sweeteners, so I haven't bought any of those. ...Dequacaine relief for my sore throat I went to work this morning feeling quite bright but by 11 o’clock I had developed a sore throat my glands were up, my tongue was furry. I fairly frequently suffer from sore throats (my weak point). I usually have a couple of throat lozenges in my handbag for such times. I looked in my bag and yes I had some. My preferred Lozenge is Dequacaine .It numbed the pain in my throat and I was able to continue working with just a mild irritation .The feeling of numbness gradually wears off and I feel my throat sore again but I do find Dequacaine helps more than other lozenge’s I have tried. ...on my way. The Packaging 5 inches by 3 inches predominantly white car board box with the words Dequacaine written in red and black on the front. It says it is for severe soar throats. In very small writing it states it is containing Benzocaine and Dequalinium chloride and that it is a local anaesthetic and numbs throat pain with works together with an anti-bacterial agent which attacks soar throats. It also states that it has 24 lozenges. On the back there are directions and some useful advice which I will go into later and also customer service details. the best thing for sore throats!

...Got the sore throat from hell then take these. I find them the only thing that actually works, they completely numb my throat and I can forget about it they also have antibacterials in which help fight throat infections. They are available from most chemists and cost about £3.64 so a little more expensive but worth it. After two days of taking these my severe sore throat had gone and whilst I was taking them I felt no pain until they wear off usually after about 4 hours. The only downside is they don't taste very nice hard to describe but guess they are sort of mentholy but not very minty or sweet but they are medicine so this is probably to discourage people from taking too many. No side effects just an excellent product, you cant take more than 8 in 24 hours though you prob would not need to. If you have a cold you can take...

...I am writing this op at a time when I have the worst sore throat I have ever had. Having turned down the opportunity to have a flu jab at work last week, I was looking for alternative help and stumbled across Strepsils Extra, black cherry flavour. To quote the packing "the active ingredient in Strepsils Extra is an antiseptic which combats the bacteria which can cause sore throat conditions and also has a local anaesthetic action which brings relief to pain and discomfort" - it was not lying. Soothing your sore throat

Advantages: Available from pharmacies - works quickly
Disadvantages: A bit sickly if it trickles down the back of your throat

...A really sore throat can make you feel utterly miserable.swallowing is painful, talking an effort and if you have a cough, it feels like you are gargling with grit. I find that throat pastilles, while pleasant to suck, never have much effect on my sore throat. So I asked my pharmacy what they recommended and they gave me Vicks Ultra Chloraseptic throat spray. The spray contains benzocaine, which is a local anaesthetic, and quickly numbs the pain of a sore throat. You have to spray the back of your throat 3 times – I found it best to give three short, sharp sprays – and you can repeat the treatment every 2-3 hours if needed. It’s not an unpleasant taste, although I did not like it when it trickled down my throat. But the relief is almost instant. Ultra Chloraseptic is safe for adults and children over 6 years of age...

But when you are feeling terrible, the last thing you want to be doing is getting out of your bed, going outside in the freezing cold and walking down the road to your doctors. Strepsils are an excellent way to soothe your throat. Although they won't actually cure it any faster, it will make the recovery much more comfortable for you. They contain an anaesthetic and antiseptic to numb the effected area and work at trying to make it better.
