The Grand Hotel Flora, Sorrento
Advantages: Friendly staff and atmosphere, Clean and well managed, lovely food
Disadvantages: could maybe have more evening entertainment at the bar
...the side of the hotel, but we didnt hear too much from the road, which was good. The pool was clean and well kept. We didnt have an issue with the 5 euro charge as you were provided with a towel which was changed if it got wet, and it also prevented, sunbed hogging, which was very good. Again the staff were very friendly and there was always a life guardaround the pool. Overall i would reccomend this hotel as a great destination for if staying in Sorrento. It is 1/2 mile from the main strip which is good, as you feel in the town, but not too noisy. Excellent, and will be booking again next year...

Sorrento - amazing town, amazing hotel!
Advantages: Great sights, proffesional, good service, clean
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...Sorrento was one of the most beautiful places i have ever visited in my life. My family and I decided to go to the south of Italy for pure pleasure and to enjoy the civillians of Sorrento's loving and welcoming nature.
The hotel we picked was spot on - not in a busy, touristy packed resort but in a place where we could relax a bit and enjoy the scenery of the beautiful town of Sorrento. It also isn't long walk from the town centre depending on how much you like to walk!
This Hilton hotel was one of the last places we picked to have a look at (probably because Paris Hilton came into our minds!), but we booked it in the end because of the quality of the hotel based on reviews.
The prices are a bit high, it all depends on the budget your planning to spend. On www.lastminute.com, the room prices are £146 - £310. The prices vary...

Fantastic, Charming, Friendly Hotel
Advantages: Amazing views
Disadvantages: Not in town center - although this isn't necessarily a disadvantage!
...My family and I have now stayed at Johanna Park Hotel twice. Once in June 2005 and again in June 2008. This hotel is simply excellent. Johanna and her fantastic staff make you feel right at home and couldn't be more helpful. It's like no other hotel experience I've had - it's as if you're staying with relatives rather than hoteliers.
We drove to get to this hotel as we'd rented a car in Rome. Also we had a map to provide directions. The drive through to Sorrento is beautiful, so I'd highly recommend doing so. The traffic is as you'd expect at rush hour but for the most part rather good. The shuttle bus will collect you from town if you do not already have a coach to take you. The drive up from the centre of town is steep and walking would be mad - the road is windy so you're not clear to cars. Taxis are quite expensive in the evening...

Bella Sorrento
Advantages: Beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Traffic noise
...and sea is to hire a boat and get out and explore the bay for the day stopping off to swim wherever you fancy.
Eating Out
It is difficult to comment on the quality of the restaurants as we were staying half board and the quality of the food in the hotel was excellent. On the two occasions we ate out for lunch I found the food quite pricey and fairly ordinary in quality. You will never be stuck for choice however we were unable to find any truly quaint local restaurants or cafes to recommend. For the truly fussy eater you can always find numerous places offering English fare of fried breakfasts and everything with chips. Hopefully such places will whither and die in the future as they only detract from the feel of Sorrento and to be honest if you want to eat such food then you should be heading to one of the Costa's.

Sorrento, I'll be back!
Advantages: Interesting town, great weather, good base to explore the area
Disadvantages: Traffic and pollution
...the tourist trade. Order all your drinks to take home during your last week and they will package them up and deliver them to your hotel on the Thursday, ready for you to leave on the Friday. Prices are excellent, and generally better than you will get onboard the ferries from Calais, but there are a few exceptions, so it?s probably better to check the ferry prices on your outward journey for comparison. The same will apply to airport offerings.
TRAFFIC
This is the downside to Sorrento. Being such a busy town, and a busy ITALIAN town, the traffic is absolutely bonkers. After a few days, as a pedestrian, you get the hang of it. The only people who run to cross the road, are the tourists who?ve just arrived. Everyone else saunters in the knowledge that Italian drivers will not run them down just because they have right of way...

Grand Hotel Nastro Azzurro
Advantages: Quiet, romantic, great food, lovely setting, magnificent views, pool, bars, restaurant
Disadvantages: You need to take a bus to get into Sorrento
...and entertaining. Toni, who mainly worked in the bar in Reception, tried to teach us Italian and was also entertaining. He made cocktails to order whilst joking around most of the time. There were delays at this bar though as Toni sometimes wasn't there.
There was a buffet night while we were there which 'showcased' 'real' Italian food. I found some of the food was quite average compared to the food served in the restaurant normally, but it was still much better quality than you would find in Britain.
The hotel is on a hill and you need to take a bus into Sorrento itself. A minibus is provided by the hotel and Mario, the driver, is also very entertaining and cheeky. You need to check the times but generally you need to book the bus for a particular time and they pick you up from the hotel and take you into Sorrento to a drop-off point. You...

A week's successful holiday in St. Agnello, Sorrento (Italy)
Advantages: Excellent, inexpensive public transport
Disadvantages: Traffic is very heavy don't even consider a hire car
...Eight days in St. Agnello, Sorrento, Italy.
We have just returned from a very successful week in Sorrento. Arriving at Naples Airport we took the regular bus service to Sorrento as far as St. Agnello which is once stop before Sorrento itself. The journey time should be one hour and the single fare was 10.0?.
Having poured over many reviews of hotels in Sorrento area we chose the Alpha and found it to be the Alpha and Omega of Hotels. We couldn?t have asked for anything better; from the moment we walked through the front door we could see that we were going to like it. We were met by a cheerful, smiling, English speaking receptionist who greeted us with the news that they had decided to upgrade our room to a panoramic one with a balcony without extra charge.
We were booked for bed and breakfast but after the first evening...

Sorrento not just for the oaps
Advantages: A wonderful place, Ideal for site seeing
Disadvantages: none
...Ever heard the phrase "See Naples and die?" well who ever first said this must have just landed at Naples airport! The landing was scary! One minute I was looking over the bay of Naples pointing out Capri and Ischia to the old man the next I was practically eye balling a woman in a tower block hanging out her washing!!
This was my introduction to Italy, I can truely say this was the only bad thing about the holiday! The old man and I visited Sorrento on an Airtours bargain -£199 half board at a 4 star hotel!!
Sorrento is a magical place, forget the image of it being for pensioners and folk that stop off on their med cruises its actually quite a lively place BUT it has also kept alot of its old charm and hasnt succombed to mass to tourism.
Sorrento has a great train link to Naples which stops at Pompeii and Hersulaum ( two...

Sorrento my view
Advantages: Lots to see,reasonable prices,
Disadvantages: noisy hotel on main street
...Sorrento.
Landing at Naples Airport then a coach to Sorrento and our hotel in the older part of this city. At first sight an impression of narrow streets and pavements, when there are any, houses, shops and other buildings packed tightly together. The journey along and round the Bay of Naples gives a foretaste of this area of Italy. The mountains on one side and the road as you near Sorrento running along the side of the cliff, if that's how you describe the mountains that drop down to sea level. The streets of Sorrento are busy, noisy and narrow with buildings three to four storeys plus high and entrances through doorways at the front in alleyways round the back and staircases to the upper apartments.
The sea is accessible by steps or roads descending steeply with twists and turns to arrive at small flat areas adjacent to it...

Sorrento in a day - it's all you need!
Advantages: Pleasant old town, beautiful scenery
Disadvantages: Few proper beaches, inflated prices
...the station you cut through a modern shopping centre with a very cafes and souvenir shops. This is not the real Sorrento! Do not be tempted to stop but carry one following the main road which takes you past some of the loveliest hotels in the area, to the main square, Piazza Tasso.
The first thing that struck me about Sorrento was that it's geared very much towards the English - cafes offering all-day breakfasts, English football games live on television and most shop notices written in English. Not really my cup of tea but early on in the day before the organised coach trippers arrive, the streets of Sorrento are quiet enough to stroll around and enjoy.
Our target in Sorrento though was the beach - well the sea, anyway. This area of the Italian coast has few sandy beaches and most that are sandy are private - you either can't use them...
