LP South America on a shoestring, firmly on the beaten track

Disadvantages: Missing some important details, everyone else will have the same book and follow the same advice..

...South America on a shoestring is part of lonely planet's regional guides for those travelling on a budget and I used the 10th edition, published March 2007 which is the most up-to-date version for my trip around that continent this year. The guide starts with an overview of the continent, from popular intineraries, maps, a brief history and culture section and the basic environment and environmental concerns that can be found in South America. Setting the scene like this is a good way to introduce people to the continent and even those who are already more familiar with parts of it this section provides a broad covereage of common themes in South America and where the places can vastly differ. The guide then deals with each country in turn which are set out in alphabetical order and the country chapters are indicated by a shaded block...

Avianca, good airline for South America

Advantages: Cheap, comfortable and friendly
Disadvantages: Advertising as direct flights when that is not the case

...Avianca is a Colombian airline that offers flights around Latin America, the U.S and a few destinations in Spain. I flew with them on two return flights, once within Colombia and once from Quito to Caracas. Avianca has the broadest connections for the northern half of South America of any airline. Flights in South America are rarely cheap and as far as I am aware there is no budget airline that would match the likes of ryanair or easyjet within Europe, however, Avianca does offer reasonable value for money. Their flights are frequently the cheapest that I could find for travel around the Andean and Caribbean region. The airline is not very useful to get from Europe over to the Americas as it's only connections are to Madrid and Barcelona. Prices are on par with any other trans-atlantic flight. ...As a child who loved all things soft and cuddly, I was a huge fan of the TY beanie babies. My friends and I were obsessed, always buying them with our pocket money. Between us I think we would have had every single one! There are all sorts of animals to collect in the TY range, and quite a selection of Beanie Baby Bears. Needless to say, these are a wide variety of bears of all sorts. Not the grizzly or polar type, but the teddy bear type! One of these bears I had was America the bear. He was the bear that, well, represented America! There were various country bears and this was one of my favourites. Sitting down, he looks quite cute. He is a sky blue colour, with the american flag on the right of his chest. Around his next he has a little bow the colours of the American flag: blue, red, white. His little face is so adorable...

The Blue South - A Beautiful and Colourful Effort

Advantages: A lyrical and melodical masterpiece with hidden depth
Disadvantages: Dark and seedy themes may not suit all tastes

South Devon Railway

Advantages: Nostalgic look back in time.Wonderful scenery, friendly Staff, Clean Trains.
Disadvantages: Short journey.

We travelled from Totnes to Buckfastleigh to Totnes and it was just like going back in time. It was a thorougly enjoyable ride on a proper steam train. Taking in the wonderful scenery from Buckfastleigh to Totnes. We went in the summer and it was a fantastic journey beside the river Dart t. Advantages: Great voices, brothers are very easy on the eye!

...This is the debut album from Andy and Cal also know as Journey South. Andy and Carl are brother who shot to fame on the X-Factor. They had been singing together for years and had spent all of their time touring the country playing small gigs and singing in pubs and clubs. All of their hard work paid off when they auditioned for the X-Factor and easily made it through to the live finals. Unfortunately the brothers did not win the show, much to my disapointment, but they did very well which lead to this album. South Yorkshire's Best Kept Secret

.... The massive, well preserved keep was added in the twelth century. Other additions were made in and around this time. By the fourteenth century a 'Warenne' died without issue which meant ownership passed to the Crown. But by 1537 the Castle was abandoned and in ruins. A survey records that the gates, barbican, walling structures and some of the keeps floors had collapsed. This ruinous state is probably why the castle was left alone in the Civil war and why it is so well preserved today. Most castles in that era were demolished to prevent them from being used. TODAY Doncaster Council own the land the Castle sits on but it falls upon English Heritage to upkeep it who in turn use the Ivanhoe Trust to manage the property. The castle is seen as a primary tourist spot in South Yorkshire and it sees 30,000 visitors a year. This Castle is one...
