Disadvantages: Off-hand restaurant staff.

...On the whole we enjoyed our short stay at this hotel and the reception staff were extreemly helpful and pleasant. We are Gold VIP Hilton Honours members and we enjoy the little extras that our loyalty usually brings. We are entitled to an upgrade to an executive room and can use the facilities of an Executive Lounge if the hotel has one. Southampton does not have an executive floor but the receptionist made sure we were given several extras to compensate. She sent a bottle of wine and a small box of handmade chocolates to our room along with bathrobes and bottles of water. We were impressed! The room was quite a good size and it was clean and nicely decorated, if a little dark. We didn\'t eat dinner in the hotel so I can only comment on the breakfast. There was a wide range of hot and cold choices but the scrambled egg had run...

Southampton - A Great Day Out!

Advantages: Attractive, historic, yet modern, and the sun seems to shine more
Disadvantages: It can be a bit chilly by the water

...I was walking through one of Southampton's many parks today and had to admire it. The gardens were well tended with beautiful scented tulips growing in dedicated beds surrounded by bright yellow flowers. This garden was in the centre of a walkway (which completes a circle) and is a fine feature. I enjoyed my walk so much in the sunshine I decided to review the area. I moved to Southampton three years ago when I started University at what was then the Institute but is now Southampton Solent Universiry and initially lived in the Oceans Village area down by the docks, in my second year I moved to the student area also known as The Polygon and into an abysmal student house, before moving home to the country for my final year. I'm no lover of the city in fact I despise the noise, the small, the buildings etc etc. Southampton...

SOUTHAMPTON....

Advantages: Lots to do.
Disadvantages: None - I still live here

...Well, what can I tell you about Southampton. I have lived here all of my 27 years of life and what can I say.... I am still here. I don't think there is anywhere else I would rather live within the UK (except perhaps Bournemouth but it is so close that it doesn't really make much difference). Shopping - There are 3 Mall type shopping areas in Southampton centre - The Marlands, The Bargate Centre and the new West Quay Development. The first two are small shopping areas with various shops. However, West Quay covers a huge area and a a massive variety of shops from cloths, shoes, jewellery, cosmetics designer shops, food shops and there is a food court so you can stop for lunch etc... There are also many other shops outside of these malls in the main centre of town and also lots of larger warehouse type shops the other side...

De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton

Advantages: Fantastic rooms, friendly staff, great location
Disadvantages: some of the other guests seem to think their a bit special!

...located in the harbour and is alongside the walls that surrounded medieval Southampton. Its on the waterfront and on clear days you can see out and across to the isle of white. A five minute walk away is Leisure world which has a cinema, bowling alley, a selection of restaurants, and a few bars and clubs, its a really nice place to spend the evening because if one bar turns out to not be too good there's plenty of others to go to! Also a five minute walk away is the West Quay Shopping Centre which is open 7 days a week and has over 90 stores all under one roof, from here you can exit into the main town centre where there is more shops, restaurants and bars. Slightly further away about a 15minute walk (bearing in mind i had heels on though!) is Ocean Village, an absolutly stunning marina with some lovely bars restaurants and shops around...

Southampton need to take responsibility

Advantages: The season is only just underway so anything can happen
Disadvantages: The early signs are bad and Southampton need to get their act together

...Please someone tell me what is going on at Southampton at the moment, I just don’t understand it, everything seems to be falling apart on the pitch and we seem to be involved in some playground squabble with Spurs. I don’t hate Spurs, sure Glenn Hoddle left Southampton to join them, but surely no manager/player/person can be bigger or greater than that collection of individuals and fans that form a club. If anything I wouldn’t want a manager no matter how good staying and working for a club if he did not really want to be there. Besides that, it’s over Hoddle has left, and it’s time to look forward and start building on the foundations created during his time at Southampton. The road to Southampton... #1

Advantages: Clean rooms, comfortable bed, great pub!
Disadvantages: Was having an extension built!

...My sister started Southampton University last weekend; the drive down from Liverpool to Southampton takes around 5-6 hours, so we needed a place to stay for the night close to Southampton. We ended up staying in two Travelodges and I intend to review them both, ultimately to show the huge contrast between the two. The first one we stayed in was in Eastleigh; about 5 minutes drive from Southampton. We booked online for a price of £26 per room per night which we thought was very reasonable - for £26, you wouldn't anticipate more than just a bed! We knew exactly where we were going as Travelodge had e-mailed us directions to the Travelodge from the motorway as well as directions to the centre of Southampton. The site looks like it was an old farm. One of the buildings had been converted into a nice local pub and restaurant...

Southampton getaway

Advantages: eveything to do
Disadvantages: very crowed every single day

...I live in Southampton and i can honestly say its not the worst place to live. First of all you can the fairly large city and then about 30min away you have the New Forest. Southampton is a place for everyone. There are things to do for all ages. You have grate shops and the brand new West Quay shopping centre with tons of cool shops for people of all ages. There are lost of places to eat out in Southampton. As like any big city you have the expensive places and the not so expensive places. There are 4 Mcdonalds in Southampton. Also lots of "posh" places to eat as well. Next to the West Quay shopping centre you have the Quays swimming pool where "apperently" the british swimming oplimpic team practise. There is quite a lot of nightlife in Southampton ranging from the normal clubs and bars to the alternitve nightclubs...

Southampton for teens

Advantages: Lots of shops available
Disadvantages: Needs more facilities for kids

...I am 18 years old and im voicing this opinion about Southampton concerning the younger people living in the city. For years now i feel southampton was becoming and still is becoming a city for people over 30. There is nothing for todays youth to do except Shopping and that gets rather boring every week or our lives. Fair enough that West Quay shopping centre has been built and i must admit the building is impressive but all that has been done is move all the shops from the main high street such as Marks and Spencers, McDonalds, All Sports and loads of clothes shops. In the shopping centre there is nothing for kids apart from the takeaway shops such as McD's and a few clothes shops but nothing which will keep children happy and excited. I feel the shopping centre needs an arcade or a night club which could host weekly dance nights...

Southampton university Halls, what a great range

Advantages: Excellent range of Accommodation
Disadvantages: Getting a bit costly?

...Southampton University has got a very diverse selection of Halls of Residence. They range from the small and cosy St Margaret's to the absolutely humungous Glen Eyre. I was a Southampton Student from 1987 until 1993,where I studied German and then for a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, and I had the privilege (?!) to be a resident of three of the halls, and so I thought that I would offer a very humble opinion of each of them. 1987-88 Fresher year- Glen Eyre Hall- a very big hall with around 900 students at the time. Great bar, great disco, shop, launderettes and its very own radio station that I could not get. Wide ranging rooms from the old blocks to the 'New Courts' to the terrace. Snack bar is ok- I worked in there for a time- very busy and very good for someone who wants a hectic social life. 1990-91 Finals Year...

Hotel Ibis Southampton

Advantages: Comfy Bed, Easy to park
Disadvantages: Not that easy to find, expensive for 2 star

...We arrived after a long 5 hour journey in the heatwave of last year. It took a while to locate the hotel as it is on a retail park and its not somewhere you would expect to find a hotel! We stayed at this hotel having booked months in advance as we were watching a concert in Southampton. At the time of booking over the phone we were told that the room would be 65 pound for the night. So we booked the hotel and thought nothing of it. On arriveal we found that the room price was £79 a night as it was an event night. When checking in they continued to charge us £79 until we mentioned we had booked it for £65. After discussing it with the snappy manager the price was reduced. It was a busy day for them and I dont think they could be bothered arguing about the price. But good enough they went on our word of £65 and did not require...
