De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton
Advantages: Fantastic rooms, friendly staff, great location
Disadvantages: some of the other guests seem to think their a bit special!
...I've stayed at this hotel twice now, once when i was 10 with my mum and dad and once when i was 20 with my boyfriend, both times i've had a fantastic time and the only negative thing being other guests there, but we'll get to that later in the review!
Accomodation:
The hotel has 173 rooms, this is made up of 93 standard rooms which are the cheapest and have either twin or a kingsize bed, an ensuite bathroom usually with a bath and a shower. A kettle and small sachets of tea coffe, milk etc and some very delicious biscuits! A mini bar (as with most hotels this is a little on the pricey side e.g £1.20 for a mars bar!!!!) a safe, an ironing board and hairdryer, a phone, internet access and Sky TV and the usual pre pay movies as well as pre pay games for the playstion. These rooms are mostly at the back of the hotel and look out over...

Ideal hotel for families visiting Southampton
Advantages: Family friendly, comfortable, good location
Disadvantages: Rooms too small for long term stays
...This hotel is easy to find, situated off the M271. Despite its location close to the motorway, it is a quiet place to stay. From this location you are 10 minutes away from the city centre and under 5 minutes to the M27 which provides access to the New Forest to the west and the M3 and Portsmouth to the east. Parking is plentiful and well lit. Booking-in was simple which is appreciated when you have tired and impatient children to contend with! Rooms are clean, modern and well equiped. Buffet breakfast is well stocked and tasty - although cooked breakfasts are not available, there is something for everyone. Reception staff were very helpful and provided good local knowledge. We often travel to Southampton to visit friends and family and rate this hotel as one of the better ones of its price range....

Hotel Ibis Southampton
Advantages: Comfy Bed, Easy to park
Disadvantages: Not that easy to find, expensive for 2 star
...We arrived after a long 5 hour journey in the heatwave of last year. It took a while to locate the hotel as it is on a retail park and its not somewhere you would expect to find a hotel!
We stayed at this hotel having booked months in advance as we were watching a concert in Southampton. At the time of booking over the phone we were told that the room would be 65 pound for the night. So we booked the hotel and thought nothing of it.
On arriveal we found that the room price was £79 a night as it was an event night. When checking in they continued to charge us £79 until we mentioned we had booked it for £65. After discussing it with the snappy manager the price was reduced. It was a busy day for them and I dont think they could be bothered arguing about the price. But good enough they went on our word of £65 and did not require...

Southampton Hilton
Advantages: Helpful and considerate reception staff
Disadvantages: Off-hand restaurant staff.
...On the whole we enjoyed our short stay at this hotel and the reception staff were extreemly helpful and pleasant. We are Gold VIP Hilton Honours members and we enjoy the little extras that our loyalty usually brings. We are entitled to an upgrade to an executive room and can use the facilities of an Executive Lounge if the hotel has one. Southampton does not have an executive floor but the receptionist made sure we were given several extras to compensate. She sent a bottle of wine and a small box of handmade chocolates to our room along with bathrobes and bottles of water. We were impressed! The room was quite a good size and it was clean and nicely decorated, if a little dark. We didn\'t eat dinner in the hotel so I can only comment on the breakfast. There was a wide range of hot and cold choices but the scrambled egg had run...

Not the best but well worth a mention
Advantages: lovely conservatory breakfast room
Disadvantages: not the prettiest from the front
...The De Vere Hotels are a rather lovely "chain" of hotels which can be found all over the UK. They are not your cheapest brand of hotel prices range from approx £110 right up to £400 or so per night. Deals can be found all over the place though, I found my deal at lastminute which was £100 for b&b.
The Hotel we stayed at was The De Vere in Southampton which was okay to look at but nothing special (basically a big brick building!) It has a massive conservatory on the end of it which is where breakfast is eaten. I have to say that it was the nicest breakfast I have had in a UK hotel with a wonderful variety of foods to eat which included, porridge, cereal, toast, muffins, pastries and a cooked breakfast. The sun streaming in through the conservatory while you are eating your breakfast is a rather nice start to the day!

Southampton - A Great Day Out!
Advantages: Attractive, historic, yet modern, and the sun seems to shine more
Disadvantages: It can be a bit chilly by the water
...I was walking through one of Southampton's many parks today and had to admire it.
The gardens were well tended with beautiful scented tulips growing in dedicated beds surrounded by bright yellow flowers. This garden was in the centre of a walkway (which completes a circle) and is a fine feature.
I enjoyed my walk so much in the sunshine I decided to review the area.
I moved to Southampton three years ago when I started University at what was then the Institute but is now Southampton Solent Universiry and initially lived in the Oceans Village area down by the docks, in my second year I moved to the student area also known as The Polygon and into an abysmal student house, before moving home to the country for my final year.
I'm no lover of the city in fact I despise the noise, the small, the buildings etc etc.

The Strand Palace Hotel
Advantages: Central location, clean
Disadvantages: Food, rooms
...We stayed at this hotel in London a little over a month ago now for two nights, we chose this hotel mainly because of the central location and because it was only a ten minuite walk from the show we had booked to go too.
Check in was very quick - About ten minuites and the staff at the reception seemed very friendly.
My first thoughts on the hotel was that it looked really clean and that it was nicely decorated and it looked modern.
I was a little dissapointed with our room as it was very small and basic, our room had a double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a tv with satellite and a small, basic en suite bathroom with a shower.
The views from our room very very poor - A block of offices which made our room dark as they were so close.
The hotel has two bars and two resturaunts, the bars were again nicely decorated...

One of the best hotels for its price around
Advantages: Comfort, very friendly, pleasure, modern, helpful, terrific breakfast
Disadvantages: parking
...Having stayed at this hotel for the weekend, I want to go back again next. My partner is pregnant and the room we was allocated was above the bar, so the receptionist (nicest i have even know) moved us to the furthest point away, so she could sleep better. The hotel is going through a major refurishment with just the reception left, and have installed designer furniture with clean lines and LCD TV's in each room, Each bathroom is spotless, with power showers and a full selection of complimentary toiletries. The breakfast was to die for, anything and everythig available, and as much as you can eat for no extra, cooked fresh, top quality and full of flavour. Whilst there we visited bournemouth, but we ate something dodgy, which on the saturday night, re-appeared, (will spare you the details) but my partner was so ill we called the doctor...

SOUTHAMPTON....
Advantages: Lots to do.
Disadvantages: None - I still live here
...Well, what can I tell you about Southampton. I have lived here all of my 27 years of life and what can I say.... I am still here.
I don't think there is anywhere else I would rather live within the UK (except perhaps Bournemouth but it is so close that it doesn't really make much difference).
Shopping - There are 3 Mall type shopping areas in Southampton centre - The Marlands, The Bargate Centre and the new West Quay Development. The first two are small shopping areas with various shops. However, West Quay covers a huge area and a a massive variety of shops from cloths, shoes, jewellery, cosmetics designer shops, food shops and there is a food court so you can stop for lunch etc... There are also many other shops outside of these malls in the main centre of town and also lots of larger warehouse type shops the other side...

Southampton need to take responsibility
Advantages: The season is only just underway so anything can happen
Disadvantages: The early signs are bad and Southampton need to get their act together
...Please someone tell me what is going on at Southampton at the moment, I just don’t understand it, everything seems to be falling apart on the pitch and we seem to be involved in some playground squabble with Spurs. I don’t hate Spurs, sure Glenn Hoddle left Southampton to join them, but surely no manager/player/person can be bigger or greater than that collection of individuals and fans that form a club. If anything I wouldn’t want a manager no matter how good staying and working for a club if he did not really want to be there. Besides that, it’s over Hoddle has left, and it’s time to look forward and start building on the foundations created during his time at Southampton. Enter a certain Mr S Gray, arguably the player’s choice.
There has been no real change in personnel on the field over...
