A Taste Of Asia
Advantages: Great food, great staff and service, very clean, sticky rice to die for
Disadvantages: no kids menu a little priceier than your average curry house
...I've never tried writing and review on a restaurant before but Asia Lounge is one of my favourite places to eat so I thought I'd give it a go and hope I do it some justice.
What Is the Asia Lounge
Asia Lounge is the newest restaurant in Bury, Manchester. It only opened at the back end of last year.
The restaurant serves up authentic Thai and Indian dishes. The chefs themselves are from Thailand and Pakistan.
The restaurant has two floors and can seat 200 guests. As well as taking bookings it is also available to hire for functions. Although the Asia Lounge isn't a take away it will do so by special request.
Location
Asia Lounge is located on Rochdale Road, Bury just on the corner of Heywood Street.
The Restaurant
The restaurant itself has a red theme going on, plain walls with pieces of ethnic art on the walls, wooden floors...

"Big Trips on Small Budgets"
Advantages: Handy to carry whilst on the road.
Disadvantages: Slightly outdated grasp of budget.
...This is the first book from the 'Lonely Planet' guide, originally titled in 1973 as 'Across Asia on the Cheap' - after initial success, the book was later developed by writers Tony Wheeler and his wife Maureen into the title it still holds today; 'South-East Asia on a shoestring'.
With the slogan 'big tips on small budgets' on the front cover, the book is geared mainly towards backpackers on a budget (as the title suggests). The countries roughly covered total as eleven, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, i say roughly with emphasis because all these areas are covered in 988 pages (latest edition, 14th, which I have infront of me - published March 2008).
The beginning of the book features highlights of the entire region, and example itinerarys...

Anything but rough
Advantages: Very, VERY detailed; excellent tips and advice; good lot of maps; very useful for before travel and during
Disadvantages: None I can see - perhaps may be *too* detailed for some?
...As I'm off to SE Asia for 6 months in February I thought I'd better get a couple of guidebooks to help - so I got the The Lonely Planet Guide and The Rough Guide to SE Asia. This, however, is a review of the latter - I have also reviewed the LP Guide for what I hope will be a useful comparison.
The book may be expensive at £12.99 but you certainly get your money's worth. Ignore the title 'Rough Guide' - it's just being modest. This is anything but a 'rough' guide - it is, in fact, incredibly detailed. While the Lonely Planet books are good in their own right as a more general guide to travelling, giving you the real basics to start you off, The Rough Guide is essential reading for anyone that's going travelling for an extended period of time.
Why? Well, I'll tell you for why. The RG (Rough Guide) covers each country in...

Gadget Asia
Advantages: Good prices, good delivery
Disadvantages: No response from their customer services department
...Used Gadget Asia back in January 2008 to purchase a Nintendo DS Lite for one of my daughters. The bundle included 20 games for £145.00. We decided against the fast delivery option as reviews on the web suggested these would arrive with a bill from customs. The unit arrived OK within about 7-10 days and most of the games work fine. Great purchase, good value for money, superb experience.
Based on this, we decided to buy another DS Lite bundle from Gadget Asia on 24 August 2008. The bundle this time was a Nintendogs DS Lite with 25 games for £140.99. The unit arrived within the same 7-10 days, but the first problem occurred when we tried to charge up the unit for my daughter's birthday - the charger supplied did not work. Fortunately, we were able to use the charger from the other Nintendo.
However, the main problems occurred...

Air Asia-the original low cost airline
Advantages: Clean, cheap, punctual
Disadvantages: Low cost so no extras
...Air Asia are a no frills airline based in South East Asia with connections locally around that region as well as up to China. There are also now flights between Kuala Lumpur and London plus 3 destinations in Australia (The Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth). I have only flown with Air Asia around the South East Asia region and so cannot comment on their long haul services.
The range of destinations within Asia is very broad with hundreds of connections, including many to different islands of Indonesia and into Burma (Myanmar). Kuala Lumpur is the hub with Bangkok a secondary so these have the broadest connections.
In terms of prices Air Aisia certainly live up to their name of being a cheap airline-one way prices for most short routes are around £20 taxes included and you can check on luggage up to 15kg without paying extra. It is also...

Terrible issues with Gadget Asia.
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: hassle, goods that don't work, postage costs, stress, no escalation procedure for complaints
...Gadget Asia sent me two Nintendo DS's for my children. they have both had to be repaired twice. They look reconditioned rather than new to me. They are refusing to send back one console until I send the other one in (which has failed again). I don't trust them anymore and want them to send back the first console so I can check it is really working before I send back the other one. I've had to send back consoles 4 times now and it costs me £10 each time.
I've been without one console for 3 months now.
Please don't buy from them. you'll just get hassle and shoddy goods. There's also no way to contact them except via e-mail, no complaints process and I can't get to anyone higher than the people that answer the e-mails....

I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND GADGET ASIA TO MY WORST ENEMY
Advantages: None - don't know why I ever placed an order with them in the first place
Disadvantages: Pay for goods and don't receive them
...I ordered and paid for a DS card with Gadget Asia, but it never arrived.
Opened several tickets with them and only got a response from one - which wasn't helpful at all - claiming the item had been despatched and I should wait 30 working days for it to arrive. Their website states 5-10 working days. Also (I could be wrong) but I think if I had waited the 30 WORKING days I may have been out of time to raise a dispute on Paypal.
I eventually opened a dispute with Paypal and about 20 seconds after submitting my dispute recieved an email from Gadget Asia saying my order had been cancelled. Funny that seeing as it was meant to be in transit????
I still haven't recieved my money back - In my opinion this company is completely fraudaulant and shouldn't be dealt with.
Buyers beware!...

Gadget-Asia.com - Top Site!
Advantages: Cheap, quick, loads of choice
Disadvantages: Can't think of any
...Wow. That's all I can say!
I ordered a R4DS from gadget-aisa.com late on the Friday afternoon, and I received it the following Wednesday morning. To say it came half way round the world in less than four working days is amazing!
It can take longer than that posting within the UK! In fact one week on I'm still waiting for a package from a UK based online supplier.
The web site is well laid out, I felt secure paying by PayPal, and the tracking system is fantastic.
I knew exactly where my package was each step of the journey.
And the prices, well, there is no comparison here in the UK. They also carry a fantastic range of products.
I'll definitely be using them again in the future.
Top marks for Gadget-Asia.com from me....

AVOID GADGET ASIA RIP OFF COMPANY
Advantages: None if product is faulty
Disadvantages: Time difference for e-mailing and no phone number, lack of responsibility
...GADGET ASIA are to be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. They have my faulty nintendo console returned back to them because the touch screen was slow to unresponsive. At first they denied it could be faulty suggesting i tried the same thing over and over. Eventually got instructions to return it and have now been waiting since 13th september for an acceptable response. They deny having received it even though the british post office have record that they signed for it on the 23rd september - it's now 9th october. This is a RIP OFF, and i've contacted my credit card company already. DON'T BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE - it's too high risk for the money you pay out. Great if they work - but they sent me a BRAND NEW FAULTY NINTENDO. DON'T DO IT. Still waiting to hear from them - do you think i'll change my mind about them???...

AIR ASIA: the budget airline for Asia... a huge time saver!
Advantages: Saves time as buses take forever in Asia!
Disadvantages: Food is really expensive and not that great
...Air Asia are an internet based airline serving destinations all over South East Asia. They often have offers on their flights and their tickets are generally very fairly priced. I used them to fly from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) to Bangkok.
I booked my ticket on their website. It is very easy to navigate and when booking you are given the option to add a meal on for the trip, or have heavier luggage, which is what I did as after 6 weeks travelling I knew I would have over 15 kilos of luggage with me!
I didn't have any problems checking in. Staff were friendly and efficient.
On the plane, I would have liked a bit more room. I was sat next to one of those arm-rest hoggers, so was a bit squidged up against the window, but as the flight was only around 30mins-1hr it wasn't too bad!
Food-wise I actually paid for "Nasi Lemak" when I was...
