Quite a few times I've had to go without because I've been running late and not able to get a responsive member of staff to serve me. The hotel markets itself as being a spa and corporate events hotel and also makes a lot of the fact that it is located very close to Silverstone race course. I sometimes feel that there's a bit of a contradiction between being a spa and a corporate events hotel. I remember being at the hotel on Valentine's Day a couple of years ago while on a course and there were lots of couples who were staying there on one of their spa deals - most of the couples weren't particularly appreciative of the fact that they were sharing their fine dining experience with several tables of rowdy twenty somethings taking advantage of the free...

The Felbridge Hotel & Spa Hotel

Advantages: Stunning decor, exceptional food, polite, friendly staff
Disadvantages: None

...Situated in East Grinstead, West Sussex this hotel is counted as a Gatwick Airport Hotel. Compared to all the other Gatwick hotels and all other hotels I have stayed in, this has to be one of the best. The hotel has recently been taken over in the last year and gone through a 5 million pound refurbishment taking the hotel and spa to 4* Deluxe Status from its previous 2* rating. I did not visit the hotel when it was previously owned so cannot compare. I drive past this hotel every day and it always catches my eye, it looks really nice. A good all-inclusive hotel in an excellent location

Advantages: Outstanding food, good rooms and good service
Disadvantages: Lift doors can hurt, pizzas are poor, no room service and a timeshare rotwieller

...My wife and I booked a week through Spa Travel advertised in a Marks & Spencer catalogue; we met in Malta 40 years ago while I was serving with the RAF on the Island. The week's all inclusive stay in the Fortina Spa Resort (5* opened in 2006) and included Club Class return travel with either BA or Air Malta, with Malta transfers and a 2 hour harbour cruise, at a cost of £900 each. Air Malta (Heathrow Terminal 4) provided an outstanding service on both outbound and return sectors - far better than BA! We booked a superior harbour view room and were allocated one on the tower's 4th floor facing Pieta and Marsamxett harbours facing South West with fantastic views of North facing Valetta and sunsets over Rabat. ...On the 26th February I spent all day being pampered and relaxing at the Donnington Valley Hotel & Spa based in Newbury. Accessible from the A34 or M4 in the "outback" of Newbury, near Donnington Castle, the newly redeveloped 4 stars hotel and spa is a perfect place to forget your worries and relax. Even though you can book with the hotel directly for their spa packages/treatments my day was booked via Spa Breaks.com in January as they were offering a 20% off any spa day if booked before March. I choose the Holistic Spa day which consisted of complementary drinks, 2 treatments, lunch, and full use of the facilities, robe, slippers, towels and a free gift. A Spa on a budget?

Advantages: bubbly, interestingly pampering scent, good body wash!
Disadvantages: may be slightly too aromatic for some, possibly too girly to appeal to men?

...I never actually bought this, I sort of acquired it! Some time ago, in Sainsbury's, my mum had decided she was fed up with the soap getting soggy in the shower soap holder and, since the Imperial Leather handwash was on offer, we somehow managed to end up with a buy-one-get-one-free on both types of product! (The other shower gel in question was the far more eye-catching bright icy blue Icelandic Spa one, but that was used up before I had chance to sample it.) So, for variety, we also went for the cream-ivory coloured Japanese Spa shower gel . . . and then my dad decided he couldn't get used to body wash instead of soap - he's not the kind of dad you'd buy toiletries for at the best of times! - and my mum isn't really a high-maintenance person in the bathroom either. It's a great hotel

Advantages: Fabulous for golf and all facilities
Disadvantages: A bit out on its own

...I stay at this hotel quite regularly on business. In fact it is my hotel of choice in South Wales, so that must say something. Whilst not a golfer I can quite easily understand that the golf facilities are fabulous, from the rolling greens through to the state of the art driving range and simply excellent club house. This is golf for the big timers. I understand it has hosted an array of big golf events including the senior open. The gym - which is free to guests is absolutely fantastic. If that place hasn't got the equipment that you need, then I don't know who has. The gym and golf courses are also a big draw in the local area. The downside of this is that these facilities are so popular that it sometimes means you have to park some way away from the hotel on it's extensive private car parks and walk down to reception...
