...Our daughter got married August this year, and as they where having just our grandson at the wedding we were wondering what to do to keep a busy 4 year old boy amused. Whilst shopping in John Lewis I came across the Pop up Book of all Pop up Books. Commander Nova?s Pop Up Alien Space Station by Nick Denchfield & Steve Cox. I was not expecting to find inside what I did find. The front cover, hard back, shows a picture of a Space Station with smaller rockets leaving the Space Station, and there is a lot of colour and movement in the cover. Untie the silver ribbon on the side and open up the book, but make sure you have plenty of space?????you will need it, the book is 13? x 10? and so you require an area of 88? circumference. This is a space station, which will keep any child and any adult happy for hours on end. Inside...

Spaced

Advantages: Genius comedy
Disadvantages: None!

...'s still the perfect sort of sitcom for the station today. The regular references to recreational drugs for example would mean it would have always struggled to make it on a station such as BBC One or Two, and various other sitcoms since Spaced on Channel 4 have attempted - often in vain - to be as successful as this was. When series two finished, there was a possibility that a third series could appear, but Pegg and Stevenson have always denied that there will be. Having been so long since the end of the second series now, I think we all know what the answer will be unfortunately. The box-set of the series is available on Amazon for just £8.98; this is incredibly cheap for 14 episodes of first class comedy, so buy it now! It's also started showing on Dave (but then again, what isn't!) on Monday nights....

Space Invaders!

Advantages: Cheap to buy
Disadvantages: Some people may find the game too easy

...What started out as a little arcade game in the 1970s went on to become an Atari classic. I used to play this on my Atari console and the Acorn Electron so imagine my delight when I found it for the Playstation for only £10 in "Game". It is probably even cheaper from on-line stores. For those who don't know this game (and there can't be many!), the basic premise is that you control a tank-like space ship which sits on the bottom of the screen. About 30 "invaders" or so move side to side across the screen in formation and get lower and lower as they try to destroy you and your protective barriers by dropping bombs or crashing into you. You have to kill each alien and the more you kill, the faster the aliens progress down the screen. When you complete one level, the aliens start off faster than they did in the previous level...

I think I was probably set up by someone to receive a call (through a bonus scheme that they run) and so a call duly came. An appointment was made which took them by surprise, and the ?designer? came along last August. The idea was that the quote would be good for a year, and if I appeared in Feature Homes magazine, I could have an instant reduction and also benefit from anyone booking a new kitchen on the back of seeing mine in the mag. With me still?? The catalogue which the designer brought along, shows a whole range of kitchens from very modern to classic designs. There are also gadgets like a special shelving system which makes the best use of those corners of cupboards which never see the light of day and harbour goodness knows...
