Belton House and Gardens Lincolnshire

Advantages: Access and enjoyment for all
Disadvantages: Food a little limited and pricey

...'s program and book 'The Moondial'? Belton Gardens is where it was set and also where you will still find the Sundial that was featured. Although the garden paths are mainly laid to gravel, access for pushchairs and wheelchairs has been made easier by using the grass as the path and wooden ramps put into place where any slope of steps need maneuvering. Please note that Orangey doe snot have access for wheelchair users. Adventure Playground This is my son's favourite part of the visit and sometimes mine also. While the children run off steam it is a chance for you sit back and relax in the woodland surroundings. The adventure playground is the largest in Lincolnshire and there is something to do for whatever the age of child. From slides to tree top cabins, from Ariel slides to rope swings. The play area...

Slapding

Advantages: Its quite nice
Disadvantages: The people who never leave

...the morning, go to the supermarket and then head down to the river bank to drink. At some point in the late afternoon someone will jump into the river and everyone will cheer. In the evening its either Merlins or The Granary - I have heard there is a new club but I dont know about that. Merins has a snooker/pool hall bit which is good to hang out in. The Granary is alot grimier but I used to prefer it. 'We are the children of the night' The Candy Bar - little sweet shop where you can buy millions (small sweets). Spalding is ok if you end up there - not worth going out of your way for. Probably lots of places like it. I had fun living there will I did. Update - I forgot to say exactly where Spalding is. Its 52degrees, 46' North 000degrees 08' West....

Bangers 'n Beans Lincolnshire style

Advantages: Tasty, good value
Disadvantages: About 25% fat, but that's sausages for you!

...Mmmm?sausages?. bangers and mash, hot dogs, toad in the hole, sausage rolls, etc etc. Comfort food, nursery food, call it what you like, sausages are a favourite in many households and are considered to be an essential part of an English breakfast. They are versatile, cheap, quick to cook and tasty. There are lots of different flavours of sausages to choose from these days and one of the ones we like most is Walls Favourite Recipe Lincolnshire Sausages. (NB. Not Chefs Selection, but despite my emails, Ciao tell me to put my review here, for some reason!) ~~~~History of the sausage~~~ The word sausage is derived from Old French 'saussiche', from the Latin word 'salsus', meaning salted. A sausage is a type of food usually consisting of ground meat (usually pork or beef in the UK), animal fat, salt, and spices. Sometimes other...

Linguini's: A Pasta Disaster!

Advantages: Some of the meals were of a high standard, clean and some friendly staff
Disadvantages: Some of the meals not so good and some less friendly staff members

...It was fast approaching my brother?s birthday and we always like to go out for a special meal to celebrate. Where we live in Lincolnshire, I?m sad to say that there are very few ?special? restaurants in the area; such establishments have either gotten dodgy or have closed down all together, but Boston wasn?t always like that. A long, long time ago, the town was host to what I?d describe as a phenomenal Italian restaurant called Zucchini?s, an eatery that closed down somewhere in the region of three to four years ago. It was an inevitable downfall; the new owners were inconsistent with opening times and stopped doing the ?early bird? menu which many people loved but I was still very sad to see Zucchini?s shut down altogether after having so many fantastic meals there in the past, both with family and friends. Alas there was hope...

A tasty veggie sausage that doesn't leave you meat deprived

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...Every so often, I like to try something a little different - I get a little bored of eating the same old thing again and again, so I like to mix it up a little . Thats why I decided to pick up some veggie sausages from the chiller section of my local supermarket - I'm not vegetarian, but I was curious to see how these measured up . Now, I've tried veggie sausages of various kinds in the past - cheesy leeky glamorgan sausages for example, and vegetarian hotdogs . But these, Lincolnshire Style Veggie Sausages were new to me . There are four sausages in a 200g pack, and they're pretty nicely sized, pleasingly plump. I think 2 sausages, with a bit of mash, veg and gravy would definitely be a good sized meal. Sliding the plastic pack out from the cardboard sleeve (which was a tasteful pale brown colour with green accents, I looked...

SPALDING FLOWER PARADE

Advantages: COLOURFUL
Disadvantages: CROWDS

...My experience at my local Flower Parade. My local Flower Parade is held at Spalding in Lincolnshire every year and they are usually well organised. The floats are well designed with Tulips and there are many different kinds of floats, eg: Dinosaurs, Trains, Rockets but to name a few. There are also marching bands which are colourful. Not only are the local schools involved but also local garden centres, pubs but to name a few. There are all kinds of stalls around the parade where you can buy plants, toys etc. This year though it was not very organised as there were people walking inbetween the floats, in front of the floats not caring if they caused accidents. There were also young people under age drinking alcohol and the police were doing nothing about it. Of all the years that I have been going to the parade this is...

Cauldron sausages - not the Frankenstein's monster I was expectin

Advantages: Easy to cook, tasty
Disadvantages: A bit high in salt

...Cauldron's Lincolnshire veggie sausages are one of a range of vegetarian products made by Cauldron Foods and were selected by yours truly on account of them being one of very few veggie dishes sold by my local tiny supermarket when I was in need of a quick and easy supper. I bought them expecting a bland experience and was pleasantly surprised by them. The pack of four sausages cost £1.53, which is pretty reasonable by ready meal standards. The product These sausages are dark brown with speckled bits, and are the shape and size of regular sausages - solid tubes about three to four inches long and one inch in diameter. They smell and taste like fake meat sausages generally do, i.e. dark and savoury, with overtones of onions and herbs. They don't have as much umami as many seitan-based vegetarian dishes, but they have somewhat less...

Belton House a Beltin' visit.

Advantages: Beautiful house and gardens, good disabled parking, a lovely family church, childrens activities
Disadvantages: Short opening times for the house

...~~ Belton House ~~ It is coming to the end of our week holiday in Lincolnshire and we have one house left to visit, which is Belton House. Armed with my Hidden England Passport, we head off down the A52 towards Grantham. Our Hidden England Passport allows us to get in on a 'Bog off', it covers five of the stately homes and castles of Lincolnshire, you pay full price for your first visit and get all the others on a buy one get one for free. The places on the passport are Belton House, Burghley House, Grimsthorpe Castle, Belvoir Castle and Rockingham Castle. It has its own website if you want to learn more which is www.hiddenengland.org . We arrived down the long driveway leading towards the house and we approached the little ticket office, where we could purchase our entrance ticket. The lady took our passport and £8...

Fields of Gold

Advantages: You get what you pay for
Disadvantages: You pay for what you get

...is despite the fact that his restaurant was alongside Ramsay's in the Good Food Guide's top five last year. A friendly, unassuming man who grew up in Switzerland, he's given to wandering into his restaurant's lounge or dining room, and greeting you like an old friend. Unlike other rivals, he has avoided central London or a chic Home Counties site for his business. Winteringham Fields is in the quiet North Lincolnshire village of Winteringham, six miles north of Scunthorpe and 10 minutes' drive from the Humber Bridge. The location has other benefits: the menus vary according to which fresh fish Germain can get in from Grimsby that day. The 'Fields' part of the name comes from the surrounding fertile arable land which provides fresh vegetables, some of which grow organically in the restaurant's own gardens. This lack of pretension...
