Through the Barricades-Spandau Ballet
Review of Through The Barricades - Spandau Ballet by
Alexis1
Advantages: Addictive, don't get bored of the songs.
Disadvantages: Why did they split up!!
...I bought this album because I am a big fan of Spandau Ballet and especially because it contained the song 'Through the Barricades'. This album was very nice to listen to and has some of Spandau Ballet's later songs. It has nine tracks and most were very good in my opinion. The songs are very original, with a good variety, the most well known is the classic 'Through the Barricades'. You will never get bored of listening to this album and I was reaching for it time and time again. Overall I thought this album was excellent, probably one of Spandau Ballet's best I would recommend this album to anyone who likes Spandau Ballet....

Musclebound-Spandau Ballet
Review of Musclebound - Spandau Ballet by
Alexis1
Advantages: Several good tracks.
Disadvantages: Some tracks are 'odd'!
...I bought this album because I wanted to hear the other less well known songs by Spandau Ballet instead of the usual True and Gold. When I began listening, I was pleasantly surprised. This album has 15 tracks in all, and there were several that I especially enjoyed. These were Musclebound, Diamond, Pleasure, Code of Love and Foundation. They are in the classic over the top 80s style and are very catchy songs. The rest of the songs on this album are not so hot, I think the band just put them together to make up the numbers. However, it is still a very good album and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Spandau Ballet and wants to hear some of their 'alternative' songs....

Gold, Always Believe in your Soul.
Review of Gold (The Best Of Spandau Ballet) - Spandau Ballet by
mentalmickey100
Advantages: Brilliant, Fantastic Band,
Disadvantages: Nothing At All.
...Well here i am again, writing an Opinion, but this time, not on Beer, not on Food, not on PC Games, but on a group, one of the best groups of the 80's. Let me explain to you.
in 1979 it was working class people from Islington in London, they were just 5 school friends who decided to create a band, they were joining the likes of Duran Duran, and others from that era, and in years to come, they would be known around the world as Spandau Ballet.
Two years earlier, there were 4 people from school, Gary Kemp, Tony Hadley, John Keeble, Steve Norman, and there friend Richard Miller, they made a band called The Makers. This band was well known for playing in the pubs of the East End of London, but in time, the group changed, with Martin Kemp, joining his brother in the band, by replacing Richard Miller. The bands name, which i found out...

Head Over Heals When Toe To Toe?????
Review of Collection, The - Spandau Ballet by
freaklikeme
Advantages: 80's Pop
Disadvantages: Strange Dress Sense
...Back in the 80's when Spandau Ballet were at the height of their fame I was a Wham! Fan - George Michael rocked and so did his music - well come on!! I was only 14.
They shared the limelight with such bands as Duran Duran, Culture Club, UB40, Yazoo and China Crisis amongst others.
Spandau Ballet were not my cup of tea - their music was Ok and I must admit to owning a copy of their first LP (LP for you younger readers is a Long Playing Disc which was made of black vinyl and about 12" in diameter!) but as for the band members they were awful - their music was listed as New Wave or New Romantic and they wore kilts and funny hair styles and sashes and make-up! - well they all wore make-up but theirs was so obvious! -and they pranced around the Top of The Pops stage like lunatics - they were not at all as good-looking or suave as George...

Oh dear my street cred disappeared
Review of Spandau Ballet Feb 2001 by
moose
Advantages: A real eye-opener to their talent, 80's revival
Disadvantages: None
...I didn't know whether to write an opinion on Spandau Ballet...I mean they aren't exactly the most trendy band around are they! Whatever street cred I had (you may argue none!) has just gone down the drain when I say that this gig was excellent!
I bought tickets to see the remaining members of Spandau Ballet (Tony Hadley, Steve Norman & John Keeble) perform in a gig at the University of East Anglia (06/02/01). I only decided to go the day before...and thought of it as just a bit of a laugh (I never was a Spandau Ballet fan in my younger days, more of a Duran Duran groupie!). At £12 a ticket it was a reasonably cheap night out.
The support band consisted of a chap who looked a bit like Paul Daniels but sounded similar to Tim Booth (of James), I didn't really hear many of their songs as I was at the bar needing to 'warm up...

Eastender Steves Band
Review of Gold (The Best Of Spandau Ballet) - Spandau Ballet by
belinda9
Advantages: Some excellent songs
Disadvantages: quite repetitive
...In my time I have been a 70s chick, a punk, a Mod, a New Romantic, a Glam Rocker, a Heavy Rocker.
In my New Romantic days I used to love Spandau Ballet along with Duran Duran and Visage.
As I love to reminicise I thought I would buy the Gold album from Spandau Ballet.
Tony Hadleys voice is so powerful and still could send shivers down my spine years later.
The tracks listed are.
1:Gold
2:true
3:Only when you leave
4:Lifeline
5:Communication
6:Instinction
7:Chant no 1(I don't need this pressure on )
8:To cut a long story short (First song I heard)
9:The freeze
10:Musclebound(Not one of their best)
11:Paint me down
12:She love like diamond
13:Round and Round
14:Highly Strung
15:Fight for ourselves
16:I'll fly for you
17:Through the Barricades.
Through the Barricades was sang by a young man on Stars in your eyes...

All that glitters
Review of Gold (The Best Of Spandau Ballet) - Spandau Ballet by
Excelle
Advantages: Great tracks, and that saxophone!
Disadvantages: May not be everyone's cup of tea
...I've spent the last few years travelling backward through my musical history, looking at the artists that I used to like, and ones that passed me by - to see how they stand up today. I found some to laugh at (purely in a "I liked THAT?!" type way), and some absolute gems. Spandau Ballet is one of these jewels in the crown of music, and I've been meaning to get myself a 'best of' for a while now. Thanks to Christmas - I now have one.
Gold is a 'best of' released just this year. There have been others which have since been deleted, but this one has all the best tracks that any fan or musical traveller like myself would be looking for. Spandau Ballet have many classic tracks - one of the more memorable bands of the early to mid-eighties. They were formed in a transition period between the soul and disco of the 70s, and the musical mish...

An Album. Not A Jazzmag.
Review of Parade - Spandau Ballet by
waynehorrigan
Advantages: Full of 80's excess
Disadvantages: Only eight tracks
...WHO ARE SPANDAU BALLET?
--------------------------------------------
Good question. They were a five band made up of Tony Hadley (vocals, suits), Gary Kemp (bass, suits), Martin Kemp (guitar, suits), John Keeble (drums, suits) and Steve Norman (sax, floppy hair, suits). Between 1980 and 1986 they pretty much ruled the roost as far as smooth British pop was concerned. Their cool musical style, sharp suits and mixture of epic ballads and funky uptempo tracks set the female teenage population to frantic levels of knicker-wetting throughout the mid-80s.
WHAT'S PARADE ALL ABOUT THEN?
----------------------------------------------------
1984 saw an epic battle of pop wits between the "big five": Duran Duran, Wham, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Culture Club and Spandau Ballet. Guess who came last? Yep, the Spands...
