Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Review of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel by
angel530
Advantages: Very pretty, very loyal, dont need as much exercise as other breeds
Disadvantages: Highly strung, expensive
...My dad has always kept dogs. At the moment he has two: Charlie, a Chocolate Labrador and Roger, an Old English Sheepdog, before them there was Jasper, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Magic, Border Collie and Cassie a German Shepherd. If you take all the pets we had growing up throughout our childhood we could easily have run a farm!
I loved Jasper. He became one of my favourite pets. I know, I know, I shouldn't have favourites but he was gorgeous! Sure he could be highly strung sometimes but he was so cute and adorable you couldn't help but love him
~*~ History ~*~
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's originate from King Charles Spaniels, don't get them confused, they are separate breeds. They were bred to have a more pronounced head and a flatter face. Cavaliers were a cross between King Charles and the Cocker Spaniel...

Meet Misty, my gorgeous English Springer Spaniel
Review of English Springer Spaniel by
craggsy23
Advantages: Totally loyal and very affectionate
Disadvantages: Can be boystrous if not excercised.
...Misty is our English Springer Spaniel who we got when she was a puppy at 8 weeks old. She came from a reputable breeder we had found through the internet and the Kennel club. We had done quite a bit of research into the breed before we took the plunge and got a ESS.
My advise would be to make sure you can offer a ESS a sound home where you will be able to give your dog lots of exercise from which they never tire, they can just go on and on and on. We can take Misty on the beach and she just runs and runs after the birds and when we get back home, she still looks for more walks.
She loves swimming and so the beach must be one of her favourite places, where she can swim and chase birds. Heaven!!! She equally loves an open field where she gets her nose to the ground and just runs following scent trails for as long as possible...

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Review of English Springer Spaniel by
Wearsidelass
Advantages: Very loving dogs
Disadvantages: Vet bills!
...I had always had Jack Russell dogs but when my last dog Beauty died a few years ago I decided I would not buy another dog because it was so painful when they died. However, my daughter, who had a Springer Spaniel persuaded me to go and look at a litter of CKCS. Molly was the only bitch in a littler of six and I immediately fell in love with her. She is the Blenheim CKCS. Unfortunately, Molly was the "runt" of the litter and she has had health problems. She has dry eyes and I have to give her Optimmune twice a day. I did have pet insurance with Tescos but have now changed it to Saga. Tescos will only insure one ailment for 12 months so beware! Molly also had to have a serious operation for ingrowing hair on the left side of her head. She was very poorly but has made a very good recover. Six months after buying Molly I decided...

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Review of Dog breeds by
KarenUK
Advantages: loving, beautiful, small, friendly
Disadvantages: reduced longevity due to breeding them a certain way
...I have always loved dogs, right since I was a small child. I mean, I love lots of animals, but I like demanding, in-yer-face type animals, so I like dogs (and children!). I just want to tell you a few things about my favourite breed.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are descended from the King Charles Spaniels, who became popular during King Charles II's reign. They can be seen in many paintings from that time.
The Cavalier is larger than the King Charles Spaniel and they look quite distinct, with the former having a longer face. Both breeds have the big soulful-looking eyes, long floppy ears and feathery tail, which gives them their unique, adorable look.
As they are pedigree dogs, I have found rather a lot of snobbery associated with them. There is an organisation called Cavalier Rescue, which basically rehomes Cavalier King...

Springers spring and just don't stop
Review of English Springer Spaniel by
kgray71
Advantages: Loyal, Loving, Energetic, Fun to be round
Disadvantages: Energetic (twice I know), Ear Problems, Selective Hearing
...Before I get too involved with this review I have listed energetic both in the advantage and disadvantage. My reasons for this are because they are difficult to tire out and are always on the go.
Background
=
Springer's spaniels are gundogs, they were primarily used for flushing the birds, i.e. making the birds fly so the guns can shoot them. Though they are now proving themselves as good retrievers as well.
I know very few Springer spaniel owners who do not use them as gundogs but I live in the shooting country. I would be happy to hear from anybody who keeps them as pets.
The Type & Colour
There are two different types of English Springer Spaniels. Working type is short in the leg and their coat is coarse and short. Show type are longer in the leg and have a longer and smoother coat.
Either...

Spring isn't the only thing they do well!
Review of English Springer Spaniel by
martin0201
Advantages: fun loving, adorable, intelligent
Disadvantages: high maintenance, will break your heart eventually
... ENGLISH SPRINGERS & IN PARTICULAR, LOTTIE
The Breed
Spaniels are one of the most well known and long lasting pedigree dog breeds still alive. They have historically been used for bird hunting, retrieving the bird after it has dropped from the sky, but now are more commonly used as pets. Some are still used for hunting game, as they still share the same characteristics as their ancestors.
The English Springers
My dog, Lottie, is an English springer spaniel and therefore this is going to the breed I review here!
The English Springer, even more so than a lot of its compatriots such as a King Charles or the American Cocker, has historically been used as a gun dog. There are two main reasons for this -
1. They have a very 'soft' jaw. This means that when they retrieve a bird that has dropped from...

Not just a gun dog
Review of English Cocker Spaniel by
eibee
Advantages: Friendly, loyal family pet
Disadvantages: None
...I've had the good fortune of encountering two cocker spaniels in my life. One that was not with us very long, the other running the household for the past four years.
The first cocker we bought was from a dog farm somewhere near Lincoln, in which the dogs were kept in small compartments in stables. The puppy we chose had a lovely black silky coat and was, what we thought, very shy. Once we got her home it became obvious to me something was wrong- she wasn't eating, and was constantly trembling and being sick. We took her to the vets who told us she had a disease (the name of which escapes me) and she had gone into shock. She was put on a drip overnight and unfortunately didn't make it. We were told that the disease had probably spread over all the dogs, and that if the owner had recognised and responded to the symptoms of illness...
