Your life needs a little SPARC
Review of Sun Ultra 5 360 - UltraSPARC IIi 360 MHz by
sjhill
Advantages: Cheap entry level Sun SPARC from 1997
Disadvantages: Build quality is PC like, and low cache processors
...The Sun UltraSPARC 5 workstation was brought out in 1997, and was priced so you could have one on your desk for approx 1000 US Dollars. They stopped shipping to customers in May 2002. These days, it is not a fast machine, but still they are perfectly useable for many workstation and server tasks.
Processor and Memory -
This model has an UltraSPARC IIi processor which is, of course, 64 bit and is clocked at 360 MHz. You can have 1GB of memory in the workstation, installed as up to 4 DIMMS, which must be installed in pairs. "Normal" PC memory will not work in these workstations. The 260MHz model only has 256kB cache (same with the 270MHz processor) For better performance, you need the 2MB cache version on the 333 or 400MHz versions.
Storage -
There is one HDD bay in the machine, although if you remove the floppy drive, you...

Good if sparcely applied
Review of Cerruti 1881 Homme by
mcsteveo
Advantages: reasonably priced, most girls appear to like it
Disadvantages: can be heavy and overbearing
...be because I dislike the colour green. It just seems slightly old-fashioned and the cap of the bottle is slightly too big so keeps falling off.
My advice would be to try the scent out by getting a tester from any good perfume retailer before buying as it would be a waste of money for those who prefer lighter smells. If you do buy it try to apply it sparcely as well as the scent is very strong....

Review of Trusted Solaris ( v. 7 ) - complete package by
deanmoncaster
Advantages: Stability (depending on what you run)
Disadvantages: Incompatabilities with a HUGE range of software unless you know where your looking, not for the non computer people
...After battling for many a long hour with solaris machine sun ultra sparcs to be precise i ended up going back to redhat permitations in the good ole linx labs at uni, the sparcs were good as paper weights, they crashed with two netscapes open on different ttys and also were very slow even with 333mhz and 128 meg of ram.
If you can just turn a computer on and double click on icon in windows DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS.....
do you know how to mount a drive?
If the answer to that question is...what the hell is he going on about then you aint really one to be even thinking of this os...stay with windows.
I do think that solaris will have java hardcoded into it and be able to run on a pico java chip cpu one day, this giving it supreem power. But with the lack of games and things to keep you interested if computers are not your...

Memorex-cellent value 12x CD writer
Review of Memorex CD-RW drive by
MikeWhalley
Advantages: Cheap and comparable to the more expensive Plextor
Disadvantages: Easy CD is maybe not as good as WinOnCD and support is vague
...; AND the best thing - 50 free CDRs! :-) In fact, although the retail pack I got says it comes with 50 650Mb *74 mins) CDRs, it came with 700Mb (80 mins) CDRs instead. bonus! Although I wouldn't want to guarantee that every retail pack would have 700 Mb CDRs included! The drive also supports all known CD standards, so you should be okay for compatibility.
The Memorex drive is easy to install, although the instructions and manual are a little sparce - in fact, they only explain the basics about installing the drive. Then again, I wouldn't advise anyone who hasn't fiddled a bit inside their PC before to install this, just incase you run into problems. I say this, because I tried to get the same model of drive to run properly at the place I work, but couldn't (although I didn't spend too long looking into why). The 'Quick Start' guide is a generic...

Signs and Wonders
Review of Signs DVD by
Guru-On-A-Mountain
Advantages: Relatively intelligent, thought-provoking movie.
Disadvantages: It is nothing spectacular, acting isn't particularly breath-taking.
...played by Ted Sutton that is a case of downright lamentable acting, in my opinion. As I already mentioned, the film is definately not Shyamalan's brightest moment, and it doesn't make you feel particularly scared, emotional or anything in between.
The DVD is disappointing to say the least. The special features are sparce and not particularly illuminating. There is a series of short featurettes about the making of the film and some deleted scenes and not much else worth mentioning.
The film itself is thought-provoking enough in many ways, but seems to be a love it or hate it kind of affair. It is intelligent, but feels a bit contrived at times, and even verges on being cliched on more than one occassion. However, it is not a bad film overall, although I don't feel the DVD is good value for money considering the distinct lack of special...

Small opinion on a small program
Review of Download Accelerator by
lenny0
Advantages: Resume broken downloads, small improvement in download time
Disadvantages: Only a small improvement in download time
...with 56kbps modems the impact on transfer speed is relatively negligible (I can usually get about 5k per second with DAP as compared to 3.5 to 4k per second without). Where there is a noticable improvement in speed is over faster lines - using a LAN I have seen my download speed increase nearly double, but as most people (in the UK at least) only use fast connections at work or university (where saving pennies on the phone bill is hardly a paramount consideration), it's not really a major plus.
The front-end of the program is fine in a sparce sort of way and I've never had any problem with corrupted files or being unable to resume, but it's not exactly ground-breaking in any respect. That said, neither are Go!Zilla or any of the other download managers, and DAP is about on a par with them.
It's worth getting if you don't already have...

Could you kill your best friend
Review of Battle Royale DVD by
jammy_mint
Advantages: This is bound to be a cult classic
Disadvantages: Unsatisfying extras
.... If that is your sort of thing, you won't be dissappointed by this film. Extremely well paced, the kids gradually pick each other off through a variety of gory and shocking methods. Leave it to the Japaneise to depict school kids gunning each other down in cold blood. Not that I am complaining, it all looks like good wholesome fun from here! As the film progresses it becomes a kind of gory big-brother, as you get to know the characters, and start speculating over which will be the survivor. It is equally interesting to see the different ways that the characters deal with the situation (there are 40 characters to start with, so there is alot of variety).
If you are a fan of special features, you won't be pleased. Here is a list of the sparce features on the disc:
Star and director filmographies
Scene selection (I cannot believe they still get away...

Alain Prost
Review of Alain Prost by
andycharger
Advantages: Need new additions
Disadvantages: Section is crap without them
...What did Alain Prost do during his racing career to make him so bad at team management?
I dont know.
He was one of the best drivers of his generation, only rivalled by the great Ayrton Senna. It was poor Ayrton that ook most of the aimed anger during their battles together.
Alain burst ont othe scene in the early 80's driving firstly for the uncompetitive MacClaren Ford team. Sparce finishes were unable to show the mans true brilliance.
The new Turbo Powered Renault outfit offered Alain a new challenge in 1981. Turbos were unreliable at first, blowing up and exploding until they became reliable and uncatchable.
He was on the verge of his first world championship until a contract dispute with Renault forced him out of the team.
He then went and joined MacClaren in 1984 as they now had the TAG sponsored Porsche engines, again...

A refined, and better, album overall
Review of Room On Fire - Strokes (The) by
zippy400
Advantages: A more rounded, complete, and warmer sound
Disadvantages: Possibly too reliant on the old "format"
...It was always going to be a difficult task following up the widely heralded 'Is This It', and regardless of what was produced there would always be doubters. While this album never strays too far from the winning formula of 'Is This It', their sound has been refined, has become more varied, and much warmer than the comparitively sparce debut.
The stand-out tracks on here are the singles '12:51' and 'Reptilia'. Both of these songs have a certain aloof NY cool but have their pop sensibilities firmly in place. Other decent songs are 'Meet Me In The Bathroom', 'The Way It Is' and 'The End Has No End'. The remaining tracks are standard Strokes fare, which is still a cut above most stuff in the alt.rock genre, so there's no complains.
To give them credit they have TRIED to try things a little differently here, on the skanking...
