...As many of you know, I am at university studying to become a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT). I decided that this is what I wanted to do a couple of years ago and so far, overall, I'm enjoying the course. What is Speech and Language Therapy? When I tell people I am at university, they immediately ask what I am studying. When I say 'Speech and Language Therapy' some people say 'so you can help me to talk', this really annoys me as there are so many more dimensions to this career. It also disappoints me that so many people are ill-informed, so I'd like to think this review might help some people that don't know exactly what s a SLT is. As my first year is over and there are only the exams left I thought I would share my experiences of the course. I hope this helps you or someone you know decide whether this is the course and university for them. I have tried to keep this as brief as possible but I am writing it with the potential student in mind so it is a rather long review. Advantages: Fast paced, flow filled, production is amazing
Disadvantages: More producers should have been used.

...Freedom Of Speech. This grime filled album is best to date with punchlines, war dubs directed at the boy better know camp and direct in your face lyrics. Ghetto is by far the best grime artist throughout this album, the flow is consistent, lyrics more powerful than ever and bars at its peak Buss 1 featuring Devlin is the best track in my opinion it is a violent fast paced track which brings back Ghetto's violent side in which he left on Ghetto Gospel (his previous mixtape). If your a grime newbie or an oldie this album will reaffirm your faith in this genre. Far away from "Wearing My Rolex" this album is honestly how ghetto expresses himself hence the title "Freedom of Speech". "Who's Got" is the track in which he aims lyrics at Wiley, JME, Skepta & Frisco it is a fun track to enjoy whilst on the go. In my opinion best album... Read review

...Imagine never having to touch your keyboard again. Imagine writing your ciao reviews simply by talking to your computer, and seeing the words magically appear on the screen. More importantly imagine school pupils with severe learning problems producing coherent essays by using their powers of speech alone. This is the scenario promised by voice recognition software. There are three main players in the field: IBM, Dragon and Phillips. I have used Dragon at home but have been working with IBM at school, primarily to help one pupil with very poor reading/writing but strong verbal abilities. Advantages: The compulsion of a thriller and yet so much more
Disadvantages: It ends.

...Gibson is sheer relevance. Too many modern authors get caught up in the need to be cool, hip or somehow lose themselves in stylistic superfluities that detract from the meaning of novels, it becomes their raison d’etre. Not so Gibson. His novels are stylish, true, they are also dense and certainly Pattern Recognition is profoundly, deeply relevant. In this sense Gibson is an anomaly, a blip on the literary landscape for he has a curious ability to sense the very nature of society and with casual incisions as precise as any author before him and doubtless any that will come after, dissects the modern world in such a manner as to be utterly without peer. More to the point he reveals the world in such a manner as we are able to recognise it and yet see it in new and staggering colours. Familiar landscapes shimmer and coalesce... Read review

Disadvantages: you have to share at least some frames of reference to enjoy it, may date quickly

...with a nick of Parkaboy is her (virtually) a best friend. She takes on a commission from a marketing genius and a fairly repulsive person called Bigend (for whom she has already worked before) to trace the author of the footage as Bigend wishes to ‘productize’ and ultimately ‘monetize’ what he sees as a perfect example of modern marketing. Cayce is American, but the USA appear only in retrospect and most of the action takes place in London, Moscow and Tokyo. Once she starts the hunt for the maker of the footage, strange and worrying things begin to happen – she is mugged, spayed upon in virtual as well as physical space and eventually drugged and abducted. ...As many of you know, I am starting university in a few weeks to study speech and language therapy (SLT). I am really excited and I want to read as much as I can around the subject before in start. Having already read 'A Career in Speech and Language Therapy' and 'Karina has Down Syndrome' and really enjoyed them, I was looking for something else on this subject. When I was placing an order on Waterstones.com I was quite near the price to be eligible for free postage so I looked for some books on speech and language. I found this one and ordered it though it was out of stock. About 5 weeks later it arrived and I've recently just finished reading it. This book is excellent. A speech and language pathologist and a paediatrician wrote this book as a guide for parents and carers of young children so there is no long-winded terminology... Read review

...My career as a speech therapist began in 2001, and has, so far, spanned 3 countries. I bore people to tears telling them about my work and the children I am priveliged to spend so much of my time with. I honestly can't think of anything I would rather do, and so I have decided to try to share some of the reasons I love being a speech and language therapist so much. In the interests of objectivity I promise to mention some of the frustrations I've experienced as well. When I was at the Open Day at De Montfort University, one of the lecturers recommended this book and I am so glad she did. It was also recommended at the Newcastle University Open Day, but by this time I already had the book! * "The role of a speech and language therapist (SALT) is to assess and treat speech, language and communication problems in people of all ages to enable them to communicate to the best of their ability.
