Smells so yummy you'll want to use it yourself!
Review of Johnsons Suncare Baby by
tanz
Advantages: respected brand, reliable protection, good consistency
Disadvantages: expensive
...My husband is Greek, so we visit Greece often and spend lots of time in the sun when we are there.
This is great, but as both my little boys are fair it means we have to be really careful that they don't burn. And that's where Johnsons suncream comes in.
In the summer I spent some time scanning the shelves at Boots for a sun lotion with a high SPF specially formulated for babies and children. In the end I bought a 200ml bottle of Johnsons Baby Suncare Lotion SPF 40 at £10.99.
Initially I probably chose this because of the brandname which is respected and I wanted the best for my babies. It turned out to be a good choice.
Info about this product:
Perfume:
This product smells so yummy that you'll want to use it yourself. It has a fruity, fresh, non-sickly perfume which kids love too.
Consistency:
Some suncreams...

Is it Supposed to be Blue
Review of Coppertone Kids Colorblock by
NoLogoGirl
Advantages: Fun Colourful lotion
Disadvantages: If you don't put enough on you get burned
...' advise that you buy a new bottle each year because the effectiveness of the sun block does decrease with age.
If you have kids, I imagine it would be a great way to entice them into letting you apply it, afterall, what kid will decline the chance to splash blue slime all over themselves!?
The strength of the UV protection is SPF40 but because it is actually meant for children, it is the only SPF available... nothing lower to actually get a tan and tell yourself it's okay because you are wearing sun cream.
It does smell of the standard coppertone lotion smell. And never fails to remind me of summer no matter what time of year I smell it.
Now I just have to wait until the temperature breaks 20 degrees then I'll be ready to break out the beach wear, train schedules and my beloved bottle of children's coppertone blue sun cream!...

Solar? Do you mean flare?
Review of L'Oreal Solar Expertise by
galaxynicole
Advantages: The smell and the range of SPF it comes in and anti sand dispenser.
Disadvantages: Price - makes you feel stick
...Solar Expertise - Sun Protection Lotion
This beautiful bank holiday Monday when I was feeling better after my tonsillitis and I decided to sit in the sun. As I didn't want to burn, I thought I'd try the free sample of Solar Expertise - Sun Protection Lotion SPF 15 from my magazine, New Woman. As I have quite fair skin but I don't burn that easily, I thought the SPF 15 was fine for me.

In general, you can get Solar Expertise in SPF 8, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 60.
They come in bottles or in tubes and you choose between spray and lotion form.

Nivea Sun Childrens Sun Spray
Review of Nivea Sun Childrens Sun Spray by
ilusvm
Advantages: water resistant, coloured initially, easy grip bottle, smells nice, works well, easy to apply
Disadvantages: runs out fast, slightly too runny, stains white clothing
...ourselves applying it whenever we could drag my brother out of the pool for a minute but ideally we tried to reapply it every hour but this did result in the bottle only lasting 4 days!
In terms of protection against sunburn, I think this is a quite effective spray. My brother did get slightly burnt on his shoulders on the first day of our holiday but probably because he wasn't giving the sun cream enough time to be absorbed before he leapt back into the pool! However he was fine for the rest of the holiday as we smothered him in the stuff!
We found that as long as we made him wait a couple of minutes for it to soak in before he went in to the water, the sun cream was very water resistant and worked well.
Overall we were very impressed with this product, it was easy to apply although perhaps a little bit too runny. The SPF of 40 was nice...

Total Suncreen for Kids
Review of Ambre Solaire Kids by
sallysmith1973
Advantages: High SPF protection, hypoallergenic
Disadvantages: Very easily breakable lid!
...and not at all effective, but that's another review!
It has been about 8 years since my last go at laser treatment, and I'm able to use regular sunscreen these days, but I still buy this Ambre Solaire Kids Total Sunscreen for my children, as it has a high (or apparently 'maximum') SPF of 60. This basically means that the product protects up to 60 times the normal natural sun protection against sun burn your skin offers. It is also water resistant (up to 40 times more than non-water resistant sunscreen), handy for days out at the pool and, yes the beach - and although it says 'water resistant' - it doesn't mean 'water proof' - it will need reapplying frequently to avoid sun damage to the skin. Water also doesn't just mean swimming pool and sea - sweat is also considered a significant factor when having to reapply sunscreen! If you sweat a lot...

Man, I want to go back to Mana...
Review of Mana Island Resort by
annaroos1
Advantages: Beautiful and relaxing
Disadvantages: the sun will burn you to crisp if you're not careful
...) the following day, we decided to walk up to one of the 2 look out points. For some reason we thought it would be a good idea to walk to the one the furthest away - trust me, this is not a good idea when it is a steep climb and it's 35 degrees and humid outside.
In the afternoon we went down to the water sports centre and got a kayak. Before we left I went back to the bure to put on some more sunscreen. Now, as I am the palest shade of pale I normally wear spf 40 or so, but I thought it would be enough to put on spf 15 before going out in a kayak on the ocean. Don't ask me why, I should know by now that this is not a good idea, certainly not in this area which has hardly any ozone layer covering it. There is no prize for guessing how much I burnt…The rest of the day we both had to sit in the shade in the pool and try to cool down...

Don't Get Sunburned-Red, Get Coppertone Blue!
Review of Coppertone Kids Colorblock by
SPoiLeDCooK1
Advantages: Children love the blue color, it's a sunBLOCK--not just a sunscreen, no more missed areas of exposed skin
Disadvantages: None, so far
...or toweling."
Okay, so the disappearing blue-colored sunblock may be a bit "gimmicky," -- but my two children are eager to slap on this SPF 40 sunblock whenever they go outside! The color is safe for their skin and, get this, it "can be cleaned from most clothes!" Just avoid contact with silk and nylon -- especially carpets!
As with most sun protection products, Coppertone issues a warning to avoid contact with eyes and to consult a doctor for application on children under the age of six months. In the case of the product producing a skin irritation or rash, you should immediately discontinue further use. Also, this product (and all other chemicals or drugs) should be kept out of the reach of children. If your child should accidentally ingest the sunblock, contact your doctor or local Poison Control Center immediately.

clothes for the road or what would Ray Mears wear
Review of Rohan by
getscenic
Advantages: quality, long lasting, good design.
Disadvantages: some may find expensive
...of Rohan back in the eighties, when looking for suitable clothes for travelling light on a hiking/mountain biking trip in France. I was looking for something you could ware every day, and something that would be hardwearing enough for leisure activities, providing comfort, and durability.
So I was kitted out with trousers, shirts, windbreaker, tee shirts, and shorts. At not much change out £300, you might think that you could get similar items at a third of the price. But it is the design and materials used that make the difference, each item of clothing is given a specification that would surpass cheaper clothing. For example a pair of Goa trousers will give you sungaurd protection of a SPF 40+, wind guard protection that eliminates any wind chill. I could go on, but the most important for me was the SPF factor. Both my father and two of my...
