Advantages: fun for all, strong story over action, but good action none the less. It's funny

...of his farther. Spider-Man 2 still contains what was great about the first film. The melodrama over the action, although now this is possible even stronger, the hilarious J. Jonah Jameson, excellent action sequences (including one on a moving train.) But this film has new strengths that the first did not. We now have Alfred Molina playing the brilliantly sympathetic villain, Doctor Octopus. Who in a similar fashion as the Green Goblin is both a friend and an enemy. Although Doctor Octopus manages to be just that be that little more sympathetic than old ‘gobby.’ It also contains more humorous moments than the first film, much to do with the Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson, but there is also a hilarious scene on an elevator. It is also more notably Sam Raimi in style. Those of us who have seen the excellent Evil Dead trilogy... Read review

...Spider-Man 2 Review The best superhero film yet? You’re going to hear a lot of critics telling you that Spider-Man 2 is so much better than Spider-Man. This I think is a little unfair as it, at least in part, diminishes the original. And let’s not forget that was a very good film indeed. It was especially notable when so many other films that year were below par. The original X-Men film for instance, (which was of course thankfully followed up by a far superior sequel) the rather confused Daredevil and a tedious first (and hopefully only) big screen outing for the Hulk. Direction and Cinematography Sam Raimi’s direction is assured and often stylish but did anyone else notice that the framing of almost the entire film seems to be really up close? 75% of the time the tops of people’s heads were cut off. ...What does The Godfather Part Two, Terminator 2, and Aliens have in common? Any ideas. Well the answer is that it is that rare breed of sequel that has bettered its excellent predecessor. Spider-man 2 has now joined this exclusive club. Sam Raimi has delivered an outstanding follow up to the 2001 blockbuster and boy does he deliver. The foundations and standards were set from the success of the first movie. Raimi had obviously done his homework for Spider-man staying true to its origins as well as adding some clever ideas; for example organic webs instead of synthetic ones. So he knew more work needed to be done just to make the sequel half as good. What did he do then? ...Ouch. I've just got off a Spiderman cram session, and after watching the original film yesterday, this morning I sat down with the sequel. I regard Spiderman 2 every bit as highly as the first film, but what makes it so great? And what stops it from being perfect? Get your replica Spiderman costume you bought off eBay at the ready, because I'm about to reminsce with every Spiderman fanatic, as well as inform those who have never stepped foot in a world of superheroes and villians what they have been missing. Tobey Maguire returns as Peter Parker AKA Spiderman, and the opening credits serve as reminder of what happened back in 2002. Marvel were obviously very careful when bringing their comic book series to the big screen, like they've tried to be with all the films they've recently turned from paper into moving picture... ...Spider man 2 picks up where the first film left off and we begin to follow the story of Peter Parker as he tries to balance university, work as well as being a neighbourhood superhero. IN Spiderman 2 Peter struggles to adjust to having to work and study whilst his friends seemingly have acquired perfect lives. Following the death of his father Harry has assumed responsibility for the running of his father's company and is rich, powerful and seemingly happy. Mary Jane, Peter's secret love is finally successful as an actress and her face is all over the city of New York on billboards as well as starring in a successful Broadway play (the Importance of Being Earnest in case you were wondering). Meanwhile Peter is struggling with his own demon's feeling guilt over the death of his Uncle as well as the fact that he is letting everyone... Read review

..., freelance photographer and man in love. MJ Watson is the woman he loves, as much as Spider-man is part of him so is MJ. Can he live without either of them in his life? Spider-man 3 brings more trials and tribulations for the wall crawling hero to deal with, while the first film had his facing the villainy of The Green Goblin and in the second one he was tormented by Dr. Octopus this film has him facing a triumvirate of evil in the guises of the new Green Goblin, Sandman and Venom. What this means is that there is less of an emotional side to Spidey this time around, especially compared to number 2. This time around there is very little actual plot to the film, it moves at a rapid pace, as it has to to fit everything in and dispenses with anything to deep. This is slightly unfair as there is a good basic plot to the movie, just too much... Read review

Advantages: Great start to the SpiderMan franchise

...picks a fight with Peter. Peter dodges all of Flashes's punches and throws him across the floor. Peter runs out into an alley, he knows that the spider has altered something in his body and starts to realise he can climb a wall and spin webs !! That is just the beginning of the film and I won't spoil it by telling you anymore of the plotline. The DVD I am reviewing is the region 1 two disk set which is basically the same as the region 2 version. This 2 disk set has the following : Disk 1 SpiderMan the film English and French dolby digital 5.1 English, French, and Spanish subtitles. This has commentaries by Sam Raimi the director, Kirsten Dunst, Laura Ziskin (producer), and Grant Curtis (co producer) All of these give a wonderful job of telling you all of their experiences of the making of the film in good detailed depth... ...Spider-Man 3 was always going to be a hard movie to create, with the first 2 being some of the best comic book films available it had a lot to live up to. Unfortunately it kind of works, kind of doesnt. Throughout the movie you feel like you are watching a film which could have been something great but just never really managed to get there. Fans of the original Venom story like myself will feel let down by the use of a very popular villian in this movie and to me, Sandman just kind of felt shoved into the continuity of the movies to give him more relevance. I have spoken to people who are not fans of the comics and most of them actually quite enjoyed the movie. I would say though anyone who follows Spider-Man comics will poke holes all through this movie. This is definately a recommendation to general movie goers or comic fans... Read review
