A fantastic amp
Review of Line 6 Spider 210 by
guitarjunkie66
Advantages: Excellent sound, fair price, many effects and easy to use
Disadvantages: volume problem, poor instruction manual, bad red metal channel
...This amp is truly excellent in my opinion. I would say that out of the spider 2 series this is your best choice as the 212 is too heavy and the 112 is just too small!
The amp can reach staggering volumes with its 2 built in celestion speakers, there is just 1 problem though, the amp is very sensitive on the controls and sometimes can be really quiet, so you change the channel and it almost deafens you. All i suggest is that you turn the volume down after you've used it!
The channels are all very good and unique and successfully emulate many amps that are around in the modern world today.
The red metal channel is rather dangerous however, it seems to radically overheat the spider as crackling sounds can be heard and occasionally smoke will be emitted from the back. I have read that this is a quite common problem among owners.
Overall...

A great car much maligned by a tedious motor press
Review of Alfa Romeo Spyder 3.0 by
Bigjet
Advantages: Great Perfomance/Engine/Handling
Disadvantages: Thirsty and Expensive to Insure
...The Alfa Romeo Spider 3.0 V6 24 valve breathes a breath of fresh air into the Spider. This car goes ! no turbo is required above 3500 revs it just keeps on accelerating until you have to change gear at 7000 rpm. The car has real Italian flair, the handling is excellent although with some scuttle on rough roads and a little torque steer if you put your foot down in low gears. The steering is very direct through the power steering, but the turning circle is quite poor.
The V6 engine is faultless, the engine note is superb and it drives in town just as easily as it does when driven hard.
The car does not have traction control, 4wd or any other fancy gizmos other than ABS. In my opinion it does not need them either and manages to put the 220 bhp down on the road quite effectively.
The interior finish in my car is very good...

Do you want to look like Magnum PI?
Review of Ferrari 308 GTB by
AndrewPo
Advantages: Inexpensive to buy, looks and sounds fantastic
Disadvantages: expensive to run
...the means, I highly recommend picking one up". O.K. he was talking about the 250 California Spider, and the 308 is not quite that pretty, but it does at least go round corners.
I bought the "QV" (Quattrovalvole") The "Best" one. It has higher quality steel body-work and a 32 valve injected V8, but earlier models with carbs and mild steel exhausts do sound better and the early plastic bodied ones are the fastest of the lot. The intermediate injected 16 valve GTBi and GTSi that came before the QV specifically introduced to meet the new US emissions requirement, are the least powerful, but still look great and as a consequence should be slightly more reasonably priced. If/when I buy another one, it will be an early steel GTS (targa-top) with carbs... In red. In terms of image I will look either cool or a bit of an arse. O.K. probably the latter...

GET CAUGHT UP IN ITS WEB AND YOULL BE HOOKED
Review of Line 6 Spider 112 by
eaglesas
Advantages: See review.
Disadvantages: The way you must set delay.
...The Line 6 Spider 112 was the first in a line of products ever to feature a digital modelling amp simulation and speaker combo. What this means to the layman is that this little 50watt box is capable of sounding like any number of other, more expensive amplifiers, simply by turning the dial. This in effect means there are a number of knobs on the amp which when turned can make you sound like anything from Kirk Hammett to Gordon Giltrap. Obviously over tube or valve, you would want old style more expensive tubes for a better sound. However, now that digital is also in the market, which do we choose? Well this is the new debate.
AMP MODES:
Obviously there is a overall amp setting, which ranges from clean, twang, blues, recto, and insane. Most of these are self explanatory, but by simply cranking the gain this can change what sort...

The Letter
Review of Fiction by
Aspen
Advantages: .
Disadvantages: .
..., behind the empty shell of an old valve wireless, she spied the oil lamp. She grabbed it hurriedly, shaking off cobwebs and spiders and the residues of countless spider dinners.
The wind had risen to galeforce now, and she battled with the rusty nail to secure the rotten old door. Waves were rising in the Loch, too. She could hear them slapping against the rocks. The rain grew heavier and colder as she struggled towards the house.
She stepped out of the mud-clarted wellies in the little porch, and threw her sodden coat uncaringly on top of them. Thankfully she was back in the little kitchen, where the smouldering fire was finally showing some signs of performing its intended function.
Each of the three candles had burned almost to the base. One was already flickering its final throes.
She lifted the glass on the filthy lamp, wrenched...

Review of The Very Busy Spider - Eric Carle by
isaac43
Advantages: brings the book to life
Disadvantages: too short
...Eric Carle a pioneer in children's books is offering a new and exciting way to explore a book. In this book the spider is busy building his web. The colours are rich and are presented in the rough style used by Carle but the real beauty is found in the web. A fine, almost invisible, line is raised up out of the book that can be felt by the child as the web progress. The little spider itself is also marked in the same way. The spider in this story interacts very little with the other animals on the farm because it is too busy. When the spider finally finishes it's web the inevitable happens and the fly is caught. The spider then goes to sleep. This is a lovely story with lots of opportunity for young children to participate.
My children love it and it is always a pleasure to read....

A complete Waste of money!
Review of Dr.Brown Baby Bottle by
CarolLouise
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive waste of Money
...My baby suffered from bad colic and we gave Infacol then I saw these bottles in Mothercare.
The principal is that by using a special valve, the risk of air becoming trapped, bubbles being formed and hence baby getting wind is reduced.
In fact, having spent £12 on two bottles, we found they made absolutely no difference.
The bottles themselves are nice to look at in a sort of smoked plastic. They have a valve which goes in the top of the bottle then a special teat. They come with a special cleaner to ensure you can get into all the little areas in the unit.
They are microwaveable and dishwasher proof.
Before you heat the bottle you have to take the valve out. This means taking off the lid and teat and pulling out the valve. This results in some milk being spilled and air getting into the bottle before you heat it.
Once heated...

Review of Member Advice on Tarantula by
chanby
Advantages: dont take up a lot of room, very interesting
Disadvantages: can bite
...Tarantulas is the incorrect collective name for a group of old spiders that should be known as theraphosids. They are old spiders because their fangs point straight down rather than pinch together like modern spiders (i.e. black widow)
The true tarantula is a small wolf spider (Lycosa tarantula) from a town in Italy called Taranto. If this spider bit you the local cure was to perform a dance to relive the pain, the dance being called the tarantella gave rise to spiders (especially large ones) in general being known as tarantulas.
Another misused name is bird eater this is due to a naturalist named Hugo Bates, who in the 1800s supposedly saw birds being captured in the webs of large South American spiders.
Spiders should always be referred to in their Latin names as many common names differ between people and it avoids mistakes...

Dealing with a flat tyre
Review of Bicycles by
trickster
Advantages: saves you walking home!
Disadvantages: be prepared to get your hands dirty
...---THE SCENARIO---
One minute you're hurtling down the hill with the wind in your hair, the next you've shot into someone's garden after squashing a baby hedgehog. The bike tyre is buggered and you're going to have to fix it - but how are you going to get it off?
---FIRST CHECK---
If on the road, first, in order to detect a leak you can spit on your fingertip and put a film of saliva across the top of the valve to detect a leak.
If the valve is not faulty then check the tyre for anything that may have caused the puncture, such as a nail or a piece of glass (or hedgehog spikes!) and note its position.
---REMOVING THE TYRE AND TUBE---
Upturn the bicycle so that it stands on its saddle and handlebars. Unscrew the knurled nut holding the valve assembly and push the valve up inside the wheel rim.
Next insert tyre levers (I use the handles...

Not found anything better!
Review of Avent Magic Cup by
jugs21
Advantages: Interchangeable parts with bottles too, Very durable
Disadvantages: Valves don't last very long, do sometimes leak.
...As my first child never drank juice, only water and milke for the first 12 months we never used a drinking cup before then.
We tried an AnyWayUpCup first but no matter how hard he tried he could not suck any juice out. Even my hubsand and I found it difficult to get anything out! So we bouhgt some Avent cups.
We paid £5 for 2 9oz cups with handles from a supermarket (I think it was Morrisons/Safeway)
The cups dismantle into the cup part, the handles, the twisting lid, the spout and the valve which is 2 pieces.
The cup, handles, lid and half the valve are hard plastic. The teat and the other part of the valve are softer plastic/rubber. The valve works by not allowing anything to leak from the spout unless sucked. Unlike the AnyWayUpCup it doesn't take a hard suck to get the juice out.
We found that after a about 3 months the valves...
