High Spirits

Advantages: Some lovely songs, Leona has a great voice
Disadvantages: Full of ballads, no up-tempo numbers

...Unbelievably, it has been a whole year since the voice that is Leona Lewis came to our attention courtesy of Simon Cowell's reality TV show, The X Factor. For me, Leona didn't really stand out until the Boot-camp stages, where I realised that the girl really could sing. Her first few live shows were amazing, and Leona cruised to the final, trampling all over runner up Ray Quinn. After winning the show, Leona shot to number one with her debut single, and then seemed to disappear into oblivion after that. She resurfaced again around October of 2007, announcing that her debut album was about to make its way onto our shelves, together with a new single. So 10 months later....was Spirit worth the wait? Sadly, the cover didn't stand out as anything amazing, just a facial shot of Leona, which sort of reminds me of the cover of Britney Spears...

A Spirited Effort

Advantages: Well drawn characters
Disadvantages: Not enough action

Spirited Away: Let's be spirited away!

Advantages: Great storyline, voice actors, artwork and soundtrack.
Disadvantages: None. Might be scary for younger viewers.

Spirited Away is about a young girl (Chihiro) who follows her parents into this deserted 'theme park' when night falls, strange creatures roam the place and Chihiro tries to leave but discover her parents have been turned into pigs for eating the spirit's food! She is then put to work at the bath house there so then she might be able to find a way to save her parents, with the help of the spirits who work there and Haku, a boy who feels familiar to her, she tries to leave the place she has been spirited away to. It Spirited ME Away !

Advantages: Fantastic Film
Disadvantages: Nothing what so ever

...SPIRITED AWAY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Another magnificent fun film from the incredible Hayao Miyazaki. Chihiro and her parents move to a new town and Chihiros new school. Upon arriving they get a little lost and end up in an old run down theme type park which is very spooky and more than a little bizarre. Chihiro spots little spirit houses in the undergrowth and strange carved stones in the woods. They all decide to explore the park, although Chihiro is a little reluctant, the park is colourfully painted if quite rundown. They come across a deserted yet delicious smelling food stall and decide to tuck in but Chihiro has a bad feeling about the park and holds back. Instead she goes of to explore by herself and this is where the movie really takes off?.. Night falls quickly and the park begins to light up by itself and dark shadowy...

Apse - Spirit

Advantages: experimental, progressive, original
Disadvantages: long songs, unusual

...Apse have undergone many member changes and replacements as a band, and Spirit is a re-release with an updated band structure, ready to warm up fans for new material coming soon. Completely forgoing the usual song layout and pop lyrics, the band make for something entirely different, and have been doing it well for several years. Without the pomp and pretension of similar experimental bands, Apse do not rely on melodramatic vocals, but let the music do the talking. The band prefers to add whispering, almost eerie vocals, or include distorted singing here and there with a dab of chorale backing vocals, which really add to the ambience. Working a borderline psychedelic sound at times, then a sinister slow piano solo, jumping to crashing drums and hammering guitars, Apse certainly work hard to earn themselves the 'experimental' title...

Sexy Spirit

...I was wandering round Superdrugs the other day looking for a new bodyspray, because my other Avon one had run out. The ones that caught my eye was the IMPULSE range of deodrants, bodysprays and bodywipes. They are all bright and colourful and eyecatching. So, I had a good sniff of them all, by spraying a bit of each on my jumper, and decided on Spirit, though there were other nice smells like: ~ O2 ~ Moongrass ~ Hint of Musk ~ ICQ ~ Zen So, if you prefer a different or more subtle smell, you could choose one of those. ~ PACKAGING ~ This bodyspray comes in an average sized can, of about 15cm and holds 75ml of spray. It stands out, as it is quite bright. The front of the can is a two-tone blue, going from pale blue at the top to darker blue at the base. There is a pink and silver squiggly line at the bottom...
