...The big bath sponge. I have three children the youngest of whom is now 10 months, with all my children we have used the big bath sponge, and I even bought one for my sister when she had her baby. The big bath sponge is an oversized sponge that you use to support your baby in the bath rather than bathing them with it. I have had 3 different sponges over the years, a new one for each child, I think the first one was green and the 2 subsequent sponges were yellow. ...Morrisons Sponge mIx Having taken early retirement I am having to cut back on a few luxuries like fresh cream cakes from the local bakers. So with more time on my hands I have decided to make my own cakes and puddings. I have started buying Morrisons sponge mix as I have a local Morrisons store but I am sure the other main supermarkets will sell a similar product. Heinz Treacle sponge for me please!

Advantages: A delicious sweet pudding
Disadvantages: High in sugar

...All of the old fashioned puddings are the best ones. Spotted dick, Bread and Butter Pudding, Steamed Jam sponge and one of my all time favourites the treacle sponge pudding. Of course all of these puddings just have to be served with hot freshly made custard to be fully appreciated. I can remember when all of the sponge puddings were made from scratch, the mixture was put into a china pudding bowl which then had a piece of cloth tied around the top of the bowl to secure the pudding, then the bowl was placed into a saucepan full of hot water on top of the hob and steamed for two or three hours! So Heinz have worked wonders by canning a steamed pudding that can go from tin to pudding bowl in under four minutes. Disadvantages: lots of calories, not suitable for certain allergy sufferers, quite expensive

...The name Marks and Spencers has always been associated with good quality food in my mind. It is true that their stores have come under quite a lot of criticism in recent years but to me their quality of food has never deteriorated and it is still second to none. I do not shop at Marks and Spencers regularly but if I get the chance I do like to make a few selective purchases. One such treat that I have discovered is their Iced Sponge Cake. At £1.39 for a 335g Sponge Cake this could be considered to be on the expensive side. Express Sponge - for clean shoes in a hurry!

Advantages: Tidy product, lightweight, impossible to spill anything
Disadvantages: For leather only, not suited to Gore-Tex, suede etc

...I'm unkind to my shoes - I try to clean them regularly, but, in all honesty I generally only do it when I have to go out somewhere smart. Since I work from home, most of the time I wear slippers, socks or sandals but - now and then - I do have to get my shoes on. I go for black leather ankle boots when I'm out and about and usually have three pairs on the go (best, everyday and "gardening/walking"). ...I am a self confessed sponge pudding freak. Basically such freaks as myself have two choices in the market when it comes to our beloved sponge puddings. You can buy those that have to be baked in the oven-they are mostly produced by the big supermarket groups under their own brand names -or alternatively you can look for those of the tinned variety that require boiling in a saucepan. I prefer the latter because I never seem to get the consistency right in the oven baked varieties. Now when it comes to the tinned variety,one name stands out above all others,viz, H. J. Heinz. The Jam Sponge Tampon - Easy, Comfy & Good Value!

Advantages: Saves you money and is very comfortable!
Disadvantages: There aren't any imo!!

...We are all becoming more eco-friendly and disposable pads & tampons are an issue for landfill and beaches. Care for your body and the planet with reusable sponge tampons. I love sponge tampons, they are sooo comfortable. Just wet before use, squeeze out and insert as far as is comfortable. I take mine out in the shower morning and night, rinse and reinsert. Friends who bleed more than me, say they use 2 sponges at a time, for heavier days. As they are so soft, you can't feel them inside at all. To clean - immerse in boiling water for a minute (no longer, as they will not last as long.) Some people add tea tree oil to the water, some people clean with colloidal silver.) Should last 6m to a year so are really good value, when compared to disposable tampons. If you have tried Sea Pearls, the Jam Sponge is much more absorbent...

...Egg Free Sponge Birthday Cake: 6 oz self-raising flour with 1 level teasp baking powder OR plain flour with 3 level teaspoons baking powder 2 1/2 oz margarine 2 oz sugar 2 level tablespoons cocoa powder 1/4 pint milk Sift the flour and baking powder. Cream the marg and sugar until soft and light Gradually add the flour and cocoa powder then a little liquid. Continue like this until you have a smooth mixture. Add a little extra milk if needed. Grease and flour two 7 inch sandwich tins and divide the mixture between the two. Bake on Gas Mark 2, 300F, 150c for about 1 hour in the centre of the oven. Check that the sponge is cooked by piercing with a skewer, leave a bit longer if necessary.
