...I have been at Bangor Uni since September 1999 when I started a Masters course in Ecology. I arrived very late, had never been to Bangor and knew nothing about the place!! The first thing you notice (unless it's raining!!) is that this is a beautiful city. The backdrop of the Menai Straits and Snowdonia National Park is breathtaking, and this is a good place to study if you like outdoor pursuits like climbing, walking, sailing, diving etc. etc. The high street has enough shops to get you by: clothes shops (a few, but no M&S so stock up on undies!!), a few restaurants, sports shops, a couple of record shops and the usual for a smallish High Street. The night life is limited to cafes, bars, a cinema, a theatre, lots of pubs, one club in town and the student's union, which has a range of different nights. Don't come here if you... Read review

...One of the most irritating things about going into shops these days is the fact that, with the coming of YTS, New Deal, and a host of other employment-figures-massaging techniques, our retailers have resorted to employing trained chimps to serve us. It is increasingly difficult to find anyone who knows anything about the products they are selling us. Not so at Yeomans Outdoors! In the Lancaster branch where I go, all the staff are friendly, polite, and most importantly KNOW LOADS ABOUT the outdoors gear they sell. Their staff training programme must be superb - although I think a lot of it is down to the fact that they only employ people who are actively interested in walking, hiking, climbing, etc. Their product knowledge is excellent, of both their own stock and items which they don't sell (and they will order you ANYTHING... ...I have just put the washing on early this morning so it can be hung in the garden and get dry and have that fresh outdoors smell. I also have put some fabric conditioner into the dispenser in the washing machine. Today I have used Tesco’s concentrated outdoors fresh. The bottle I bought a while ago has 33%% extra free. normally contains 750ml the added free makes this bottle 1 litre. just checked tesco online it costs 72 p for the bottle of conditioner This conditioner comes in a tall square bottle with a green label showing a picture of a butterfly green for fresh butterfly to represent outside I guess. Anyway square straight edged products are good take up less space in the cupboard rather than round ones. Although I am not loyal to this brand of conditioner I do frequently buy it. ...I came across this store Go Outdoors about 1 year ago when I went with my partner, he needed some new boots for work and he was told about this place from a friend of his. It is a store that sells everything to do with outdoors from coats and jackets to tents, any thing to do with camping, fishing equipment, skiing, cycling, caravanning, boots, maps every thing you need. The store we went to is in Coventry it is situated at Coventry Business Park, Canley Road, just 10 minutes from the NEC which is not to far from us. It had ample parking places, and it is open every day of the week. Monday 10am - 7pm Tuesday 10am - 7pm Wednesday 10am - 7pm Thursday 10am - 8pm Friday 10am - 7pm Saturday 9am - 6pm Sunday 10am-5pm These are great opening hours especially if you work full time. ...As there seems to be a trend towards magazines this month I thought I would throw in my two pence worth and tell you about a little gem that I have discovered. The magazine is entitled Outdoors and according to the blurb on the opening page it has been created as part of the PlantforLife campaign which aims to help get the most out of your garden. The campaign has been financed with the assistance of the European Community, so I supposed that means we have already indirectly contributed towards it, but the wonderful thing about this magazine is that you can get your own copy absolutely FREE. Isn't that a wonderful word, always makes me sit up and take notice. It is sent out four times a year to cover each season and the current one which I've just received is issue two, Summer 2004. The problem with outdoor pursuits, is that they do tend to take place some distance from "civilisation", and as such brings with it the fact that any massistance required, is going to take some time to arrive. This is where you are going to need equipment like a good basic first aid kit, to deal with any injuries you may have. The one illustrated is by the First Aid Warehouse, they market this one as the "The OUTABS First Aid Kit". This kit is aimed at instructors or for use in suppost vehicles, kits designed to be carried as personal issue, are a lot smaller, and easier to stow. Contents Box - for some reason this is coloured red, made from sturdy plastic, if a little rigid, personally I would have preferred a bag, much more comfortable when stuffed into a rucksac. EDIT.
