Reviews of sports leicester
Basically Leicester.
Review of Leicester in General by
Eddie45
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op
...Killers.
-> Sports Facilities
Leicester could do with a decent swimming pool and an affordable sport center. There is Livingwells but it is very expensive for a student like me to be a member. Filbert Street offers Premiership football and in all fairness the tickets are reasonable (Student tickets £10)....

University of Leicester 2007
Review of Leicester University by
knittingdolphin
Advantages: Friendly people, laid back attitude, academic, social scene
Disadvantages: distance of university to halls, the locals
...in the morning and later in the evening.
Socially the university is bursting with things to do. There are various socities to get involved with from the popular Indie society to something more random as the Viking society; as well as all subjects. In addition associations such as RAG are not only full of fun, for example their yearly fashion show and theatre production, but they look great on your CV. There are also numerous sports clubs to join; most teams take part in the anual varsity matches between Leicester univerity and the polytechnic De Montfort. These matches are great to go to as the rivalry is very intense, and often amusing.
Leicester student's union is very popular with its students and recently it has seen acts such as the Arctic Monkeys perform. The two big union nights are the cheese infested Red Leicester which plays a huge...

Prosperous Leicester
Review of Leicester (England) by
ashford
Advantages: Well planned, Prosperous. Good sports facilities
Disadvantages: Air of complacency
...The East Midlands city of Leicester has long been a prosperous place with the hosiery, textiles, footwear and engineering industries being of considerable economic importance. This prosperity does at times seem to have bred a degree of complacency in this leafy, well planned city.
Leicester, very much part of Middle England, has attracted large numbers of immigrants, especially Asians from the Indian sub-continent and East Africa and they have added plenty of colour and entrepreneurial skills to the city.
The sports scene in this city is good, there is the home ground of Leicestershire County Cricket Club,Leicester City are a Premier Division side and Leicester RFC are one of England's strongest rugby union sides. The cultural infrastructure is well developed with pride of place going to the Phoenix arts Centre and the Haymarket Theatre...

Leicester's Social Life
Review of Leicester University by
Vicky100
Advantages: Great atmos, reasonably priced accomodation
Disadvantages: Lack of decent nightclubs
...Three years at Leicester has flown by (mostly in a haze of beers!). I'm certainly going to miss the place when I enter the 'real world' this summer.
As a university town, Leicester is ideal. Large enough to offer lots to do, yet retaining a small-town atmosphere (You'll always bump into friends wherever you go). On the social front (and lets face it that's our main concern. Education? Nah!), Leicester will keep you occupied; from its array of new, snazzy bars, to a range of popular (and often v. cheesy) nights at the Union. Admittedly, the club scene is pretty low-key, but this is the only major downfall.
Leicester is also the only town in the country to possess 4 professional sports teams (football, rugby, cricket, basketball) and if that doesn't wet your appetite, you can join in yourself with one of the many university teams...

Want To See More Of Leics?
Review of Leicester in General by
iancognito
Advantages: Bars and restaurants, multicultural, sporting successes and beauty spots
Disadvantages: One way system, quite dirty, lack of sports facilities
...Having lived here for 25 years now, this should be the most detailed, if not opinionated, review you will ever read from me. Leicester has a little bit of everything and something to interest almost anyone. Two of the country's best universities are here, there are two fine shopping centres that are both soon to be extended and re-developed, the world's oldest outdoor market is here , historical links to the Romans and Richard III, successful sports teams in football, rugby, cricket and basketball are based in Leicester, it's the home of the National Space Centre, the nightlife features dozens of absolutely outstanding bars and restaurants. Add to that attractions like Twycross Zoo, DeMontfort Hall, the annual Comedy Festival, some stunning countryside views and scenery and possibly the UK's biggest mix of ethnic backgrounds, colours...

Leicester City - simple review
Review of Leicester City by
JM1234
Advantages: Good defence, good manager, good stadium, good ambitions and money. Great fans.
Disadvantages: In the second division.
...Leicester City were formed 123 years ago in 1884. At that time they were called Leicester Fosse. One of the impressive facts to do with Leicester City is that they are one of nine elite clubs never to drop out of the top two divisions of English football. Leicester City amazingly won the Charity Shield in 1971 beating Liverpool. They have won the Football League cup (currently known as the carling cup) 3 times in their history, in 1964, 1997 and 2000. They have also been runners-up twice in this competition too and have been nunlucky 4 times in the F.A cup. Famous players to play for Leicester City include Gordon Banks and Peter Shilton, known as possibly the two best goalkeepers in the world ever. The first, Banks will always be known for a save from Pele and is possibly the best save in history. Although the most important Leicester...

Leicester, its better than you think
Review of Leicester in General by
consumermonkey
Advantages: Nice City, lots to do
Disadvantages: none really
...I lived in Leicester for over five years, and absolutely loved every minute of it. Leicester is a city that is neither to big nor to small, it is big enough to hold a plethora of nightclubs varying from heavy metal and grunge to the regular townie club.
Less to hazard very large ethnic community and the city is much enhanced because of it. Every type of religious festival is celebrated with gusto, even the Hindu festival of light has the largest ceremony outside of India celebrated in the city of Leicester. If you live or visit Leicester around this time of year, the festival of light is a site to be seen an inexperienced to be had by anyone. When I first move to Leicester it was very much in decline, the UK was in the middle of recession and this city was to, these days it is picked up a lot, there are a couple of multiplex...

A little place in Leicester.
Review of Princess Charlotte (Leicester) by
kylecoare
Advantages: Close to band, good sound, some up and coming acts.
Disadvantages: Sound desk in the middle of the room!!
...Princess Charlotte - Leicester.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I was originally going to write this for my 50th op, but obviously other things came to mind and it has slipped back a little.
I wanted one of my landmark ops to be about my home town, and the place I spent a lot of time during my late teens.
SO HERE IS MY 60TH OP!
The Princess Charlotte is a small little indie rock music venue, in Leicester.
As anyone that has read any of my music ops will know I tend to enjoy my punk and indie rock genres.
This place caters for most styles of rock music, ranging from poppy types all the way through to thrashy industrial death metal.
LOCATION.
^^^^^^^^^
Firstly before I say anything about the club/venue, I really should let you into a bit of information about the general area.
We are dead centre of the country...

Alliance and Leicester? Never ever again!
Review of Alliance & Leicester Online Banking by
pony111
Advantages: Competitive interest rate
Disadvantages: Unfriendly literature, unhelpful staff, website difficult to use
...I was attracted to the Alliance and Leicester's 'Online Saver' account because of the relatively high interest rate offered. Today when I checked, the interest rate is 5.35% which is higher than most of the mainstream competition.
I applied for this account online via their website. I find their home page almost assaults the eye; it's as though they want to shout about every link on there and ultimately it's just too much and in my opinion it looks 'cheap'. It didn't take too long to complete the application form and about seven days later the account was set up.
To notify me that my new account was ready, I received two letters through the post, one letter had a pin number and the other letter a username so that I could login. There was a minimal amount of detail in the letter, just barely enough instructions to get you logged in...

Cheese is not the only good thing in Leicester!
Review of Leicester University by
SimonJB
Advantages: Quality through and through
Disadvantages: Leave your car at home!
...Being a bit of a king of univeristies having dropped out twice I finally settled on Leicester to study archaeology and was the best decsion I could have made.
The university is excellently postioned just outside of the city centre and is surrounded by the beautifully green Victoria Park, which was once the Racecourse many many years ago.
The campus is compact and has a friendly atmosphere, and has a variety of buildings, the architecturally acclaimed Engineering building, the old asylum now the univeristy offices, the 18 storey Attenborough Tower, with its fantastic paternoster and great views, and the downright ugly Charles Wilson (or the Chilly Willy ) building.
The student union has good bars, and a variety club nights, adequate shop and all the services you'd expect in a union building.
The library at Leicester...
