EA Sports Bringing Rugby To The PS2
Review of Rugby 2001 (PS2) by
Andy.mack
Advantages: Good Graphics, Training option is very good, as is the multiplayer
Disadvantages: Game play isnt as good as it could have been. Some computer teams are far too hard to play.
...When it came to Rugby games on the Playstation, the only one worth mentioning previously was Jonah Lomu Rugby. That is of course until 2001 when those clever guys at EA sports decided it was time for them to get in on the action. As I’m sure many of you are aware I am a big Rugby fan so when I saw this in Game for just £10 on the Ps2 I knew that it was one of those games I just had to buy.
Now EA are renowned for their ability to make good sports games such as the likes of the Fifa series, Tiger Woods golf series and a recent addition the Cricket series. They really are one of the main players where the sports genre is concerned. Of course the first thing to clear up is that this is very much a game focusing on the Union side of Rugby, as far as I’m aware there have been no games to date, which feature Rugby League.
This version...

Rugby Is it a sport
Review of Sports Soccer (Shop) by
ts2001
Advantages: Fair prices
Disadvantages: Store layout, poor staff training
...This is the story of an attempt to buy a pair of Rugby boots. First stop, the Meadowhall shopping mall in Sheffield. Lots of sports shops to choose from, so you would think this would be an easy task.
Sports Soccer is a shop which has competitive prices although the staff consists mainly of youngsters who have yet to learn basic social skills. The numbers of times that I have had to listen through their boring conversations with each other about their private lives. Usually, in between, they will tell me the total price of the items but they rarely use the words "please" or "thank you". It appears that chewing gum is part of the requirements of the job.
However on the basis of value for money this was our first stop. They had a tiny selection and only one type in the correct size. Unlucky, I thought. Never mind let us move on...

I love Rugby League
Review of Rugby league in general by
Julieshobs
Advantages: Fantastic family sport - much cheaper than football
Disadvantages: None.
...What is Rugby League.
Rugby League is a sport that has its roots actually in football history although neither sport bear any resemblance to what we know them as today. Way back in the early days of the sport it was called football and this was played in schools, although each school seemed to have their own version of the rules. There where 2 versions of the game, the handling of the ball and the kicking game (19th century). These 2 versions later became know as the Football Association and the Rugby Football Union.
During 1895 rugby had lots of problems mainly brought about by the fact that there where lots of northern working class team who had great success much to the disgust of the gentry who ran the game There where many disputes relating to time off work to play, where pay was stopped and as there where more...

It's not from Rugby. Is it brewed under licence
Review of Rugby Ale by
Newfloridian
Advantages: A bottle conditioned ale
Disadvantages: Very ordinary. It's not brewed in Rugby
...As an East Midlander, I felt I should know and support local brews. I came across bottles of a beer at the local supermarket which celebrated a town not far away from the city of my birth and also the birth of a famous English sport. I had not heard of Rugby Ale before, but my researches soon showed that the brew itself did not come from Rugby but from a town rather closer to Birmingham.
There is a very strong heritage of brewing right across the Midlands (after all Burton on Trent is only a stone’s throw from here). This was a brew that was asking to be tested.
WHERE DOES RUGBY ALE COME FROM?
We are on the very edge of my old stamping ground here (Leicester born and bred – me!). Atherstone in Warwickshire lies on the A5 (the old roman road the Watling Street) eight south east of Tamworth and about the same distance north...

This game is a must for all Rugby fans
Review of Rugby 2001 (PS2) by
knightrider7
Advantages: Great fun and can play for ages against your mates
Disadvantages: Camera movement and bad referee decisions
...This game is a must for all Rugby fans. It has good graphics, simple to play and is great fun. (Especially when you thump your mates) I would also recommend this game to all non-rugby fans that don’t know much about the sport; you can easily and quickly pick up the rules and game play. Though I must warn you, there is a new rugby game out RUGBY 2004, but RUGBY is going cheap, at £15, so it is well worth purchasing.
This was the first rugby game since the excellent Jonah Lomu from Codemasters, and this game aims to take over as the number one Rugby game. It is a challenging and authentic game for both rugby and non-rugby fans.
There are 23 highly detailed dynamic stadiums from around the world, with over 600 players and 20 international teams. The competitions that are in the game include the World Cup, 6 nations and the Tri...

Rugby like its never been played before!!
Review of Rugby 2004 (PS2) by
Deano2807
Advantages: Very entertaining with a great choice of gameplays.
Disadvantages: Huge selection of controls to understand.
.... This makes the game more interesting as it gives the opponents good chances of stealing.
There are various modes of play, players can choose to play as one of the nation states in the World Cup or with one of the same countries in the Six Nations or Tri-Nations. You are able to go on tour against one of the Southern Hemisphere teams with the Lions selecting your own squad for the tour. Players can also play as club sides in the Super 12's or domestic competitions. Like the PES Master League you can take part in a 3 League mode helping to take your chosen side to the top, making necessary trades throughout the game.
One of the things I like about EA Sports games which is proven again in Rugby 2004 is the fact that all the Rugby players names are correct. Unfortunately the graphics are less convincing and some of the faces could be a lot...

Sporting Delights
Review of Sky Sports News by
Yocal
Advantages: 24 hr sports
Disadvantages: hubby is addicted to the channel
...such as rugby (go Bath!), various motor racing, horse racing to name a few events.
Although this can be frustrating for the non-football fan viewer the other five sports channels, Sky Sports 1 - 3 and Sky Sports Extra, provide a varied showing of premiership, league, foreign, international and classic football matches, national and international rugby, cricket and motorsports.
Viewing Sky Sports News initially can be a bit of a shock to the eyes, due to the amount of information shown at once. The screen is separated into four sections.
Section one Main screen - this is where you see the presenters
Section two Right side - provides date and time also providing written information providing information on team league positions and team news. This information changes regularly to reflect a variety of sports
Section three bottom...

Fun and addictive-Rugby at its most enjoyable
Review of World Championship Rugby (PS2) by
italiacat
Advantages: Looks great! Simple and easy to pick up and play
Disadvantages: maybe not enough depth for the rugby fanactic
...- the older matches feature the original kits.
Overall:
If you like your games to be fun and to be a good replication of the sport it represents then this is it!
If you love rugby then this is the game that’ll keep you coming back for more.
Its not overwhelmingly in-depth but the game doesn't suffer because of it.
Enjoy!...

A Sporting Oracle
Review of news.bbc.co.uk/sports/ by
jonesri
Advantages: Good structure and variety of articles
Disadvantages: Slow Forums, Useless Posts
...making it very difficult to cover everything. The main areas of general interest are well covered but it is the less popular sports that can seem somewhat neglected. Major sports such as Football, Rugby Union and Cricket are well covered on the site and updated frequently.
Additional in-depth areas may be available on the site depending on the time of year and if any competitions are currently taking place. Generally when a major sporting event is taking place (like The Olympics, World Cup, Ryder Cup or Six Nations) there will be a specialist section of the site available for news on this event. This section of the site will be well updated and contain more information about the sport and the event than you normally expect to see on the site.
The full list of sports currently covered in detail by the site is: Football, Cricket, Rugby...

Rugby 2000
Review of Rugby 2000 (PSX) by
jambo5000
Advantages: Its EA sports
Disadvantages: Its not football
...Rugby is more popular than ever, and as depicted in this body-crushing simulation of the sport, it's easy to see why. Like the award-winning FIFA games, Rugby 2000 takes high-end graphics and audio, an official licence, and a realistic approach to the rules and the behaviour of both player and ball, resulting an authentically fierce yet incredibly subtle simulation. Viewing the action from a range of 'in-your-face' viewpoints and angles, the action unfolds in full 3D with authentic looking players moving and behaving just like the real thing. Look closely and you'll even seem them get grubbier as a match progresses. The same ball physics that makes FIFA seem so realistic is also used here, so you can be sure real life strategies yield authentic results. What's more, because this is an officially licensed game, all the team and player...
