a spot of light reading
Review of A Spot of Bother - Mark Haddon by
mussonanna
Advantages: funny, touching
Disadvantages: quite short
...The novel is around 500 pages long, but it is split into short chapters, so it doesn't look too daunting and is an easy read.
Having read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time , Mark Haddon's first novel I put his second novel 'A spot of bother' on my christmas list. I received the paperback version of the book from Amazon. The cover price is £7.99.
Mark's second novel is very different from The Curious Incident of the dog in the night- time, but neverless draws on Marks clever insighful writting style and is equally as humourous and touching as the first novel.
Dealing with a family where each member is trying to cope with various difficulties you quickly get to know and love each character as the story unfolds.
The father in the story, George has recently retired and lives with his wife Jean. They have two...

Spot The Dog!
Review of Where's Spot? - Eric Hill by
newby2
Advantages: a great book
Disadvantages: none
...not seem at all dated and neither does the story itself.
Jack really does love this book as he is able to turn the pages and lift up the flaps all by himself. I have to be careful though because with the flaps being fairly thin and rather flimsy he finds great delight in trying to rip the flap off from the page.
The RRP on the back of this board book is £3.99pence but I have seen these books selling for a lot cheaper than this price and you can pick up a real bargain on eBay and Amazon if you keep your eyes peeled. I think even for the RRP I would be very happy with this purchase. The Spot books are true classics and books that I myself hold dear. I hope one day that Jack will see these books in the same light.
There are a few other books that are in this Spot Series and they are:
Spot's first walk
Spot goes to the farm
Spot...

Bothering About A Spot...
Review of A Spot of Bother - Mark Haddon by
KarenUK
Advantages: Entertaining, interesting, well-observed
Disadvantages: None
...WHY THIS BOOK?
I haven’t read much fiction this year. In fact, only five of the twenty-seven books I have read so far in 2007 have been fiction. But I did make an effort to read this one – A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon.
I bought it, because I enjoyed his previous novel – The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time – and was interested to see what this one would be like. But I was also attracted by its theme of depression, as I have suffered with that myself, on and off for five years. So I bought the paperback version of the book from Amazon for £3.99. The cover price is £7.99.
It’s the sort of book you would probably notice on the shelves. It has a red front cover with a picture of a house, marquee and a man with an umbrella. This fits in well with the content of the story.
The novel is around 500 pages long...

Light your way to Tangier
Review of Next Tangier light fitting by
oldwasp
Advantages: Looks expensive
Disadvantages: Self assembly, paint peels off shades.
...~~<*><*>~~ Tangier light fitting ~~<*><*>~~
Now the house has been painting from top to bottom, the whole house has to be refurnished. Me i think everything looks OK, but i am a man and have not got a clue what i am talking about. Suppose it gives me the opportunity to write some new reviews.
Next :~
The light fitting is from Next, now i would not normally shop at Next as every time you wear something you bump into someone wearing the same thing. But i have to admit they do stock some nice home furnishing.
My wife spotted the Tangier light and thought it would go with the style of the room she wanted.
Tangier light fitting :~
These are not brass but painted to look like brass. All the items are solid metal apart from the shades that are very thin like tin that can be bent, they are only partly shaped and you need...

Photoshop Elements Drop Dead Lighting techniques
Review of Photoshop Elements Drop Dead Lighting Techniques - Barry Huggins by
ilaskey
Advantages: Concise yet easy to follow, some impressive looking projects, well presented
Disadvantages: Special effects section, a little light (sic) on explanations
...One thing that often separates an average photo from a great one is the quality of light. Real life rarely serves up the sort of light we'd like (especially in the UK) and so we have to fall back on post processing and editing to tweak things.
To the inexperienced user, this can be a bit of a hit and miss affair so I was very pleased to spot a copy of Photoshop Elements Drop Dead Lighting Techniques in the bookshop. The author Barry Huggins runs a multimedia and training consultancy at www.matrixtraining.com and has had his images used around the world so he ought to know a thing or two.
The first thing that strikes you is the gorgeous presentation of the book. Ilex Press titles we have seen have always been impressive in this respect with superb quality brilliant white paper, excellent layout and flaps on the thick glossy cover...

Those 'Lights' Still Burn Bright
Review of With The Lights Out (+DVD) [Digipak] - Nirvana by
MUFCboi
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
..., myself included. From reading magazine reviews, I gage the opinion that the set as a whole delivered it’s fair share of surprises but perhaps ended up giving a little to much to the listener, something that surprised me as it is of belief that you can never have enough of a good thing. Argument will be that Kurt may never have intended some of these tracks to see the light of day, something that was always said of his ‘Journals’, but fact remains that when you become as big as he did, you rarely have the control anymore - something that may have contributed to his untimely death. The DVD footage was always promised to be the holy grail of the set, including early performances from the days of the ‘Bleach’ album, as well as some later recordings just months prior to Kurt’s suicide, making for a poignant viewing. Having praised the band...

The smell of light blue?
Review of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue by
emieu
Advantages: Nice smell
Disadvantages: Slightly more expensive than most perfumes
...I spotted this perfume a couple of weeks ago. Had a sniff and wasn’t sure what I thought about it – I liked it but I didn’t know how much. So I thought the best thing to do was to purchase a mini version from eBay (£3.50 for 4.5ml) and give it further testing. Now I know that miniature versions aren’t economic but if you are like me who get bored which things quickly and likes to change things frequently they are a good buy – plus they last a surprising long time and you don’t have nearly full bottles of expensive stuff putrefying all over the shop.
Anyway, back to the perfume…
Looks wise, it comes in a flocked turquoisy blue box with silver writing on it. The glass bottle is clear and has a simple tall rectangular shape. It has a silver and blue rectangular top. The effect is smart and sophisticated, but not very sexy...

Review of Underwater Kinetics Sunlight UKD8 Dive Light by
atticusuk
Advantages: Good quality product
Disadvantages: Heavy when taking abroad
...traveling abroad.
Ikelite PCa Lite
This is my back up torch and as such is small enough to fit in my BC pocket. It comes in a range of colours and I opted for the bright green version mainly because it was that or pink and I already a pink knife which is the butt of many a joke.
The PC Series is an innovative new design with a unique clamp system for ease in opening and closing. Brilliant intensity is provided by Halogen bulbs specially designed for Ikelite and the power source is provided by six AA batteries which provide a burn time of between 1.5 to 2 hours.
The PCa provides incredible intensity and beam pattern for shorter periods of time and is an excellent small torch which punches well above its weight. I have used this torch on night dives in the Red Sea and it has provided more than adequate light for spotting the reefs...
