...I spent a great six months of my life working as an English teacher in Sri Lanka, and i hope i can maybe inspire others to go and see this country. Before i left i had no ideas as to what to expect. Sri lanka is very humid and it takes a bit of getting used to the constant heat, usually around the low 30's. The best ebaches are along the south west coast, hikkaduwa and mirissa are both very beautiful and have accomodation on the shore. Hikkaduwa is the more lively of the two, and has a great guesthouse called neelas, i was there three weeks and they still email me, they were great hosts! There are many buddhist temples in sri lanka, many that are breathtaking, see the lonely planet guide to sri lanka. Advantages: Nice Weather, Paradise for tourists
Disadvantages: Boring for young people, not much nightlife

...I have been to Sri Lanka about 8 times in my life because my parents are singhales and we always go back there to visit family. As I've grown up my opinions of Sri Lanka have changed so much. When I was young I always looked forward to going to Sri Lanka with my parents as I had so much more freedom there than I would in England. I used to run around on my grandparents estate climbing trees and playing with the animals. Another thing I really enjoyed about going to Sri Lanka was I got to visit the Yala elephant orphange which was such a good experience. Now that I've grown up though I do not enjoy going to Sri Lanka as much as it isn't a very modern place and there isn't much to do. Although I've grown up with Sri Lanka playing a major part in my life my opinion has changed about it since I've grown up. Theres one thing thats good... Read review

Advantages: FRIENDLY PEOPLE, BEAUTIFUL WEATHER

...We flew from Heathrow with Sri Lankan airlines and although the flight was long and tiring, you could not fault the service and comfort of the plane and its staff. Each seat had its own television with movies, radio and computer games free of charge, the food was beautiful, not your typical aeroplane rubbish and the staff are so friendly and willing to help! Beruwela was 3 hours from Columbo in the south of the island on stunning golden sands. Its is one of the most popular resorts in Sri Lanka. when we first arrived in Sri lanka the heat was astoundingly hot and it took us a long time to get used to it (16 people died because of the heat we heard on the radio). ...anyone, anywhere should visit sri lanka- but be fully prepared to fall helplessly, completly and wantantly in love; with the island, the people, the climate- the very essence of the country. sri lanka lays south of india, a teardrop shaped island in the currents of the indian ocean. the weather is tropical and the beaches beautiful- but one of the most fufilling aspects about a holiday here, is that you could only ever be here. it is completly different to any other holiday destination i know, the experiencre is a truly sri lankan one. theres buddhist temples for the culture vultures, unspoilt beaches for the sun worshipers, exciting flavours for the cuisine team, wildlife a plenty for the animal lovers- and the warmth and excubrience of the people for the rest of us. sri lanka is wonderful- experience it!!... ...Sri Lanka, the place eveyone tells you is the most beautiful island in the world, and to an extent it is. If you wish to visit be prepared for what you will find and see. The beaches and hotels are full of splendor, most are all inclusive and that is not a good thing. Sri Lanka is cheap, cheap gems, cheap everything. There is nothing that can not be bartered for. The all inclusive means that you will spend most of your time here in the complex of your hotel and miss the islands wonder. Poverty, the island in many ways is third world or worse. People will beg you for money all the time, I recommend buying sweets from the locals, they get some money and the children want sweets more than money. My other advice is take some spare currency from home, Sterling and Dollars are best, even 10p, they will love you and if out traveling... Read review

...We have recently come back from Beruwela (Sri Lanka). We flew from Heathrow on Sri Lankan Air Lines. The flight it self was nearly 10 hours but made as comftable as possible. On each seat was TV screen, the various channels included 3 film channels, comedy channel and also a channel where you could map out the journey. The meal service was first class. Food was Sri Lankan food and you had a choice of meals so suitable for any taste. Compimentry drinks included. Downside when arriving at the airport lookout for the porters wearing orange BIBS, if they help with baggage they expect english money. My experience included one porter taking to meeting point and another trying to take bags to bus pick up point and another trying to load on the bus. ...The best kept secret in Asia I am writing from The Slightly Chilled Guest House at Adam's Peak, slightlychilled.tv . Me and my friends have actually invested in this and come here a lot. This is the first time I have been in Aug as most travel books only suggest hiking up Adams Peak in the high season due to weather. I really wanted to see for myself before commenting about the weather. I have been here for about 2 weks and I have also been to Kandy for the Prehere festival . Anyone coming to Sri Lanka should plan their trip for this festival. I can't wait to bring my friends the next time as it really is something special. About 5 days ago I did a different hike than climbing Adam's peak as I have already done this 2 times.
